Once again I ask for you financial aid.
I think the crazy thing about the Age of Strife is just how fucking long it actually was. 5000 straight years of Mad Max meets Fist of the North Star. That's the length of time separating us from the Minoans of Crete, a civilization so old that they were forgotten legends by the time of Ancient Greece.
Hell the Imperium itself is about ten thousand years old. Our own history is just seven thousand years old give or take.
That's quite eye-opening.
And then people wonder how most of the Dark Age technology has been lost or is beyond understanding.
@@terminator572 I often forget just how long ten thousand years is when I look at 40k. It really feels like ancient history when I remind myself of it. The revival of gullieman would be like Hercules just popping up and saying 'yo fuckers'. It's crazy to think about.
What really gets me is the concept of time becomes more "compressed" as things like record keeping, printing, internet, and especially the radical extension of lifespan are invented/discovered
what makes the Age of Strife hit so hard is it soft reset humanity's understanding of its own history, technological advancements, etc. - during what is known as the DAoT, 5000 years may have been a matter of 5-10 generations or even fewer - the difference between knowing of Minoan Crete on the one hand via legends of Atlantis and painstaking archaeological / anthropologic research and knowing of Minoan Crete on the other hand bc your great-great-great grandfather lived on the island and in fact probably extensively documented their time there
Then suddenly all that goes out the window. Data hosting servers implode, worlds burn, an intergalactic empire at the height of its administrative, military, political, power - just goes away, and now we're BACK to examining fragments of third-hand sources and digging up shattered cities and shit. The library of Alexandria has burned again.
What's nuts is this has happened in human history before - not just in terms of like single empires (Breaking of Alexandrian conquests, Warring States period in China, Decline of Rome, Fall of the Songhai Empire, European Dark Ages) - but an entire interconnected global economy - in the form of the Late Bronze Age Collapse.
While there were human civilizations which carried on happily unaffected by this apocalyptic event which absolutely erased civilization across the Mediterranean, North Africa, Europe, & the near Middle East (including Minoan Crete) imagine if this had happened when there was a single united human culture and then at the end of it all there was a religious dogma which stated that original research or technological development was punishable by death and the only sanctified tech was the tattered ashes of the aforementioned Library of Alexandria
"Unity had a bill,
and the cost was beyond imagining."

In the wise words of the great and noble Rogal Dorn; "Boiling water does not remove it from the planet".
Iorclins Eveirnis I imagine a good portion of terras water was harvested for early terraforming and colonization efforts
I guess it has something to do with the ruined atmosphere of Terra at the time. The creation and passage of clouds would have been near impossible at such levels of heat, which is why few,if any of the inhabitants, seem to be completely normal humans. Most are either mutants, cyborgs or both. The rest are mostly dead.
What would the eldar do if they needed water?
Webway gate secreted onto a planet with abundant water (like terra of old) dropped to the bottom of the ocean and opened, and khaine presto, one drained planet. Plenty of other "gate" like structures or pysker powers in 40k lore too. It would totally be possible to steal a planets oceans without the need of ships to physically drain a planet.
A lot of water was probably tied up in industry, aging or otherwise. While that doesn’t explain where it all went in the past, the lack of natural water on modern Terra can easily be explained by it still being there, just in other places. Fire suppression systems, industrial cooling lines, nuclear power plants, and of course drinking water for an ecumenopolis.

You know what I like most about this channel, the fact that despite the potential centuries of research and study, the chronicler still doesn't know everything about the various subjects he discusses in these videos. That there are things still hidden from him either because he lacks the clearance required or because the truth has been thoroughly expunged for the protection of the greater imperium. It really helps give this channel such an immersive and genuine atmosphere.
What I love most is the dulcet tones of his wonderful voice. I could fall asleep to these chronicles.

Edit: Glad to see the Aral Sea made a comeback !!!
From fluff we have, it appears most of the surviving Thunder Warriors were going to die soon after the Unification Wars ended from their flaws. In fact it was expected that they would die so badly and not anyway a true Warrior should die. That part of the reason for the Mount Ararat was so the EoM could give the remaining Thunder Warriors a good death. It makes sense that the EoM actions can be both compassionate and selfish.
Honestly...this is all I've wanted. If only you and fellow content creators were allowed to continue working unimpeded maybe this franchise could truly be known by everyone
Seeing thunder warriors in full gear, it is hard and horrifying to image which kind of weapons were able to kill them in the thousands...
Lots of dark age tech and a whole lot of blunt force trauma I’d imagine.

The unification wars, and the most notable campaigns of the great crusade era by the legions are some of the most detailed and intriguing stories that i wish we could see more of in stories of their own or on the table top. thunder warriors against techno-barbarians, mutants, warwitches and the like would make for such a rich setting, focused in an aesthetic like that of John Blanche and a hint of necromunda tossed in there, then there's the World-Eaters campaign of Sarum, the Death Guard's relentless eradication of Galaspar, The pacification of Luna by the 16th...sigh i'd love to see that brought to life.

I like this Historitor.
THE EMPEROR PROTECTS! This rendition of our Holy History raises awe, fear, and hope for the glorious future of our Great Imperium.
This is by far much better than any other 30-40k lore youtuber as is much of your work - your character development of your lore speaker makes this all the more enchanting. Keep doing what you're doing! We appreciate it.
I'll tell you a particularly fine aspect of your writing that I haven't seen brought up before: your introductions. A solid intro that both contextualises and establishes a primary theme is a dying art. It's clear you labour over them, and I'm confident I can speak for the community in saying that we appreciate your efforts.
"We are not owed progress by the falling grains of sand"
Phenomenal work, honored chroniclarian
I have watched a LOT of Warhammer lore and subscribe to quite a few channels, but you sir, have made art. I cannot wait to see all you create and I will be watching everything you publish on this channel
Such a poetic & beautiful narration, is your story telling
Thank you for making & sharing this story - Chronicler
Before i began listening i thought i'd heard and read enough about the unification wars to never really visit it again, yet time has kept putting this video on my display to procure. my sincerest appreciation and congratulations go out to you chronicler. Emperor preserve you.
(*Cough* and The Dark God's watch over you.)
"It is a work I shall happily give my own soul to see done" - bloody dangerous thing to say in a Universe where the book you're filling in might reply "Deal" and eat you.
Emperor bless you. This is great chronicling. I hope you get to do a chronicle about Deathwatch, Grey Knights, the Ultima Founding and the Primaris Marines, more of legions and Astra Militarum.
Kind of in awe of how well done this is tbqh
SUBSCRIBED! I'm so picky with voice-overs. You are now in the the only 3 i like. Along with Arch and Luetin.
I'm watching this again for, like, the 6th time. One of my favourite vids on youtube, full stop.
