Gordon Murray reveals the secrets behind his new T.33 supercar & why he loves V12 engines

  • Gordon Murray gave me a guided tour around his new GMA T.33 supercar and explains how it differs from the more extreme T.50 supercar he launched back in August 2020. Powered by a bespoke N/A Cosworth V12 that revs to 11,100rpm and produces 615ps at 10,250rpm, the 1090kg T.33 has the makings of being one of the purest supercars of all time.
    The Lotus Elan Sprint was one of the fastest accelerating cars to 60mph on sale in the UK when it was launched back in 1971 but what's it like to drive today and what have I learnt about Elans from owning one for the past nearly 38 years? Find out here:

He can use all his knowledge and talent, design cars the way he wants them and his shareholders understand that success is about not making him compromise on his impeccably judged values. @Just think if we're going to be honest, billionaires are responsible for most of the harm being done to the environment for the pure sake of acquiring more assets. Money. However, fossil fuels are not infinitely sustainable, hence the term "fossil fuels". Fact is, you're still getting plenty of performance when it comes to hybrid and electric vehicles albeit at the cost of the environment, still! You ever heard the expression, "There is no replacement for displacement"? Well, the idea overall hardly seems to stray off from high performing vehicles these days.

    • @BleedForTheWorld
      @BleedForTheWorld Před 2 lety

      @Just think you really think that fossil fuels are sustainable or am I invoking a false dichotomy on my part? It either is or isn't. You just described the very energy source of all planets in the universe that are capable of inhabiting life as we know it which is the sun. The same can hardly be said about fossil fuels as we know it. I could explain how billionaires are harming the environment but I suspect that you would just as easily deny evidence as you have with climate change.

    • @BleedForTheWorld
      @BleedForTheWorld Před 2 lety

      @Just think I mean, you don't think there's anything wrong with billionaires owning huge plots of land in order to derofest entire ecosystems. Our planet is quite fragile, you know. Well, it's ecosystems. I'm just going to tell you this: if you don't believe in climate change, you will when millions will begin to evacuate and leave the global south in order to find a better place to live in the global north. That's us, in the global north. You will hear it and you will see it with your own eyes as immigrants start flourishing communities. But I haven't disagreed with you on cars and autos being developed with hybrid/electric architecture, no. That's something I call green capitalism - same bird; different color.

    • @BleedForTheWorld
      @BleedForTheWorld Před 2 lety

      @Just think but I brought up an issue about billionaires and you didn't address it at all. You simply keep denying anything that has to do with climate change being done by humans is perhaps of no concern to humans themselves. Doesn't that sound ironic? In any case, what I told you about immigrants is absolutely true, partly because we've already seen what destabilization of entire countries could bring to others. Here's another fun fact: It's actually too late to reverse climate change.

    What a brilliant interview and what a brilliant car.
    Mr Murray doing his usual of taking even very high expectations and going miles past them.
    I could listen to you two chatting all day. Its so refreshing to hear genuine questions from someone who understands them properly being replied to concisely and enthusiastically by the man who made it happen.
    I imagine other designers sit around asking how large the entertainment screen can be and can they get rid of any more buttons.
    I hope if one ever turned up at GMA they would be sacked immediately.
    I especialy liked the bit at the end "I'm still waiting for my invite". The fact Gordon replied immediately with "you'll get one" was great to hear. I can't think of anyone better qualified to tell us all about it and I''m sure that video will be a great one - just like the car.

      I think he's trying not to make the mistake TVR have done. The overheads are so large these days unless he goes in partnership with one of the big manufacturers it's unfeasible to produce a car for that. Shame really but it's reality now.

    • @BruceLeedar
      @BruceLeedar Před 2 lety +19

      Murray has designed extremely cheap cars, but as a small manufacturer it isn't financially feasible to build cheap cars. In theory a big manufacturer could hire him to design something, but there are still all sorts of reasons why this isn't going to happen.

    • @Forndrome
      @Forndrome Před 2 lety +9

      I imagine he considers affordable light sportscars kind of a solved puzzle. Just look at Harry's recent review of the Elan Sprint, which Murray also adores; it's a 4 cylinder car from the 60s yet it's pretty much perfect in terms of handling, transmission and weight/dimensions. The modern re-interpretation of that would probably just be a Lotus Elise or a modified Miata.

    • @anandmorris
      @anandmorris Před 2 lety +4

      You say that, but there is a whole world of issues when designing an everyday car. I studied automotive design, and family/small cars could be designed for a specific group, but it also had to cater for everyone and be accessible for everyone. The problem with that is design gets watered down and because of overhead costs, you just end up using off the shelf cheap plastic chinese made shit. So although it could be branded GMA, it wouldn't be Gordon's actual design. A bit like the time that bimbo victoria beckham claimed she designed a range rover.
