I ate three single grains of salt this morning. Did I eat too much? How many grains of salt per day can I consume? HELP ME!!!!!
I ate 2 chickfila sandwiches and I’ve already took it 120% of my daily sodium.
I ate a bowl of Campbells chicken noodle soup, that was 100% of my daily sodium...
Then adding the crackers on top of that, yikes
@@RyanJohnson I have three packs of bacon from Dunkin I’m already at 1500 time to eat more food
1 ramen is half the daily intake of sodium, and I eat 2 at a time..
how do you eat 1500mg per day? the only way to do that is just eat nothing
That’s how they get you it’s all a trap set by the cooperations and allowed/co-signed by the government.
I consume 2 tsp Himalayan salt per day. Any less causes me symptoms of hyponatremia, although it could be largely due to a low-carb and high-vegetable diet. I encourage people to listen to their body.
Stop eating low carb diet you dummy. Carbs should be most of your calorie intake.
EXCELLENT thanks Big Bro!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks alot , informative.
I appreciate it
Its not all that simple & sodium is a critical electrolyte. Metabolic requirement for salt (sodium) is particularly affected by carbohydrate load/insulin level. High carbs = high insulin levels = sodium retention. Low carb = low insulin levels = sodium excretion. Increase exercise = increase sodium utilization/excretion. Eat high carb/modest activity = sodium retention & less need for salt (ie 2000-3000mg). Eat low carb/ketogenic/LCHF + exercise = increase need for salt, easily up to 5000 mg or more. Simple test - muscle cramps, spasms & restless legs = you probably need more sodium/salt.
Cj Ritz that was fantastic Thankyou! What did you study to know all that information? Some bibliography I could use? I'm really interested! :) thanks
I don't know about fantastic but tx for the positive reflection :). I'm a clinical physiologist who works in chronic disease rehab & mgmt (cardiovascular/diabetes) & was seeking a base for optimal human nutrition since evidence based medical diets (ie low fat, plant based) have been very ineffective. Long story short - I now live & promote low carb/high fat, carnivorous base. I must eat salt because low salt = nasty muscle cramps, constipation, headaches, low bp. I wanted to understand the primary biological / physiologic issues/mechanisms so... Refs: 1) Phinney & Volek, low carb living touches upon the need for increased sodium on low carb. As for physiologic mechanism 2) research on insulin resistance / renal sodium transport : SAGE-Hindawi Access to Research International Journal of Hypertension Volume 2011, Article ID 391762,8 pagesdoi:10.4061/2011/391762. & another article from 1989, Hypertension 14:367-373: Insulin and Renal Sodium Retention in Obese Adolescents. Other supportive info 3) The Weston Price Assoc has several good reviews/overviews w/ refs; here's one: www.westonaprice.org/health-topics/abcs-of-nutrition/the-salt-of-the-earth/ . While I do choose to use a variety of natural salt sources, Morton's table salt is a valid option & it is iodized (this is beneficial) .... Don't get caught up red herrings like what type of salt - its not the critical factor. Salt is not our enemy & our bodies can easily eliminate any excess IF you don't have high insulin.
AND.. if you have an inquiring mind.....the next big misunderstood mineral deficiency is IODINE! Lack of it is a big problem. Vive Vida!
@@carmenritz1711 imho we need tons of salt regardless of what type of diet, since the chloride is needed to make stomach acid
@@incorectulpolitic Totally! Just stating some basic metabolic/physiologic implications, since keto, carnivore is being used by many, and requires higher intake of sodium and chloride - so it's even more critical in those instances.
I love this comment! I follow a low-carb high-fat pescetarian diet and I had hyponatremia, IBS and frequent urination most of my life. The only salt I got in my diet was 1 tsp of Himalayan salt. I bumped it up to two and voila! All symptoms have been markedly improved. My new philosophy is to listen to my body, not the health 'authorities'.
Body weight is really the driving factor of so many of the ailments and illnesses people end up with...if you're an athlete, though, I don't think keeping sodium low is a great idea.
Oh wow I'm nowhere near even the high blood pressure salt intake. I found once I started using herbs and cayenne in my cooking I need way less salt, but I was curious how much you are supposed to use.
Good as always
Very good actually
For about 70 years I've been in a battle to lose weight. Salt, sugar and fat our my favoite "food groups". Long long story short version. Limiting salt to recommended amount for people over 70 years old 1200mg has decreased blood pressure so much i now take 5mg of lisinopril instead of 40mg. Otherwise bp drops to 80s over 50s and im happy about 110/70. Weight down from 206 pounds to 182 in about 5 months. I eat whatever i want breakfast is 150mg sodium and if lunch is 1050mg then evening meal is 0mg foods. I never feel hungry as other ways of eating I've tried eating. My doctor knows about what im doing and approves. My cardiologist is stressed because im not taking the 40mg of lisinopril. I like him and his dad but this is my life and im already more than 12 years past normal life expectancy for a guy born in 1946. Check with your doctor before starting any new "diet". God bless you all have a great day!
Thank you for this commonsense take on NaCl. Being an endurance athlete I have come across many people who have been following the mantra of “salt is poison” and ended up with hyponatremia. This is life threatening. I get upset when many health gurus advocate a very low salt diet, much lower than the RDI. This sets up otherwise healthy people for disaster if they exercise in hot weather. South Korea eats twice the salt of the average American but has half the heart disease. This shows there is no direct correlation, there are other factors involved, eg weight.
Thank you for basing your report on evidence.
Sodium only Raises Blood Pressure if sugar or refined carbohydrates are present.....when those are removed and restricted to complex carbs with low glycemic index no blood pressure rise.
I am currently monitoring 3 women with high blood pressure on a Ketogenic diet and after starting just 3-4 weeks in normal blood pressure and no meds now and dropped on average 15-20lbs
What im seeing is this
- sodium 3000mg
- lost weight
- blood psi down to normal
- appetite under control
- Bowel movements more frequent
- more energy through the day
- better sleep
- More alert
- cramping gone
** so I've been studying a low-carb ketogenic diet and I've been on a low carb ketogenic diet for 8 years and the more I see people pull away from sugar and refined carbohydrates and increase their sodium almost all health conditions clear out and they don't have problems anymore, it's just nobody wants to believe this because they are stuck on a vegan agenda or a medical agenda and they lie so I promote the use of all diets in a proper fashion restricting sugar and refined carbohydrates increasing sodium typically leads to a healthier person **
Are u a doctor
what complex carbs do you recommend

I think it should be noted that salt needs depend on what your doing and what kind of diet you prescribe to.
If you exercise heavily, you need more salt. If you are on a LCHF or Ketogenic diet, you need more salt. Also the quality of the salt matters.
I like the channel but this video I feel oversimplified this issue.
Kurt Thiele large regbumps onback and arms that come and go
If you Exercise a lot, you need more of all nutrients in its own moderation, in moderation as in especially before doing any exercise prior to eating moments before.
Otherwise you’ll die of dehydration if you over exercise with too much salt in your system.
Quality of salt doesn't matter. The amount of sodium in salt does. It's really hard to eat 1500mg of salt on a low processed food diet.
Thank you boss
how much salt we should consume everyday for muscle building
thank you! very clear direct info.
btw a canned tuna (140g) has around 700mg of sodium so watch out!
Prolly warch the mercury first.
1 can of Campbells chicken soup = your daily recommended amount of sodium...
Campbells really isn't any better for you than Phillip-Morris are they?
Hahahhahhaha....that was funny
If you don't get enough sodium, you may go into convulsions and possibly die. A tiny pinch a day is all you need. If you eat any salty food in a day like most people do, then you don't need to add any more salt. If you eat only salt-free foods, and if you drink a large quantity of water, then you need to add a tiny pinch of salt once a day.
Interesting. Would be great to see a video discussing the differences between different salt i.e. sea salt, Himalayan pink salt, table salt etc
Toby Smith well himalayan salt is radioactive. So it doesn't take a genius to figure out what a radioactive substance inside the cells is capable of.

Sea salt is salt. You may get other elements from sea salt, but if it's way off it will not taste right. Trust your palate.
Eh. What's the point of living if you can't eat salty food as much as you want?

If you exercise you need more salt plain and simple also other electrolytes come into play.He also, does not mention Iodine is needed for the thyroid and reducing SALT will bring down thyroid.
Is 45mg of sodium a lot?
Nick Quintiliano no
not at all
That's dangerously low! The recommended amount is 2,400mg (1 tsp) per day. 45mg of sodium = 2% of the recommended amount. Most Americans get around 3,400mg per day and are fine. I'd suggest you do what feels right.
No it's not.
I have hbp salt my number one enemy
This got me very very confused whenever people talks about sodium being bad for health. Obviously sodium is bad for health as no one will ever eat the pure element sodium, a soft metal directly. Sodium chloride and sodium are 2 different things altogether. If sodium chloride is harmful, does that mean our tummy can turn back salt into chlorine and sodium??????? If that is not the case, please do not call Sodium harmful as no one eats sodium.

Take it from my healthy 86 year old grandpa...
Everything in moderation.

that doesn't answer shit. wtf's moderation mean? how do we quantify moderation? does it mean the same amount for me who is at 5'10 135 lbs and Shaq who is like 7 ft tall?
i hate this "moderation" cop out bullshit answer. we all already know, we need specifics.
moderation doesn't work for 99% of the population. If it did none of us would be watching this video and we wouldn't have so many sick people around. Your grandpa is lucky to be in the 1%. All the best to him.
What a joke😂😂

I don't think he really answered the question. The end recommendation was a low sodium diet, with just a small amount for flavor.
I think I'm having too much sodium because of constant heart pain
Na+ + Cl- -> NaCl
No... positive and negative ions make one of the ions negative lol so according to your equation we actually get NaCl-.
Just add more potassium cytrate into your diet
what does that do?
So, salt is 40% sodium, and 60% chloride, and for ppl with hypertension the guideline is 1500mg sodium, so that's 3.75gram of salt.
Today I just measured my own cooking :
- 20gram of garlic
- 100 gram of Chinese Cabbage + 100 Green mustard (chopped)
- 1.5 gram of Sea Salt
- 0.6 gram MSG
- two swings of fish sauce from the small hole of its bottle.
How I cook it is, put a little bit of oil, wait till hot and put in chopped garlic, wait till the aroma comes and put in salt, msg, fish sauce, stir a bit, then put all veggies in, mix well and wait till cooked. The veggies is washed in preparation so it will hold a bit of water in it so no need to put in more water.
The result is , it is not salty, but can't say that it's bland either, I bet putting in salt when cooking probably reduces its sodium content, or maybe sea salt has less sodium and not 40%, but what's weird is it is different putting down salt BEFORE or AFTER cooking. When put after cooking, it can be salty, but when put in when cooking (I think it's called seasoning) it's not that salty.
I have high blood pressure so I take care how much salt I eat, I have developed a bit of sensitivity toward saltiness, esp when a food is too salty, it feels like it's attacking my taste bud. So if 1.5 gram salt isn't that salty, I wonder how much salt ppl put in when I order a take out food and when it's too salty.
Watch the cortisol levels and use vitamin k2,d3, magnesium.
If you'r disqualify your facts in the following sentence would it not be better to say if you are otherwise a healthy person your body is fully capable of handling sodium levels. That is what you said but not in an understandable way. There is no real standard as to how much sodium the human body needs as the environment and condition varies from each of us. To use your methodology I could say if you consume the RDD of Sodium, live in the Louisiana, work outside everyday and run ten miles you would be dead in a week. I would add in a low voice, most of us don't?
the type of 'salt' is very important as well. Celtic sea salt and Himalayan rock salt all have co factors to help you break down and correctly absorb the sodium at the natural rate! anything in a box typically has table salt which has been stripped of its nutrients and trace minerals
And why are you qualified to give us this advice?
This advice is just as good as the governmental advice that’s given👎🏽 Sole water 💦 look it up 😅
On the day's you eat lot's of salt,do cardio and sweat it out, easy
