    Spoke with a professional logger who ran 462's and now switched to a 500i. He loves the 462 as a all around saw and the 500i as a pure production saw. He said that if the 500i is used for a lot of limbing and not run flat out the injector will gum up and the saw does not run properly. This does not happen with a 462. Overall, he prefers the 500i for straight production work.

      That's one person's opinion. It doesn't mean that it's a fact. And you don't have first-hand knowledge of this. I own both. I have had zero problems with either saw in the six months of using them. One person's experience/opinion doesn't make it fact.

      Well he's a logger not a mechanic. Sounds like a backyard science take with zero proof of what he's saying. Never seen or heard of any sort of injector issues or """gumming up""" on these, many with thousands of hours of work time. Lots of solenoid issues on the m-tronic carbs though, if ran with a bad fuel filter.

    I've used both saws, and cutting regular not large logs , you won't be able to tell the difference in power.
    It's only going to large logs with a bigger bar the 500i will be better.
    But the 462 had better fuel
    economy as far as I could tell.

    You've got your facts wrong. The 462 IS NOT the lightest gas powered chainsaw out there BY FAR. What it DOES have is a great power to weight ratio. I could tell you at least five other Stihl gas powered saws that weigh less than the 462, but yet their power to weight ratios aren't as good as the 462's is.

      Hey Jeff you got both saws was wondering what you would recommend in the two saws what is the 500i like compared to 462 in fuel consumption whats the vibration like in the handles I've seen some people comment saying the 500i has a little more vibration that the 462 what did you find them like is the 500i heavier than the 462 can you notice it when limbing is it harder to throw around im stuck on which saw to buy I think the 500i is $300 more than the 462 is it worth the extra money I've got a older stihl ms 660 I use with a 36 inch bar just sawing off fire wood in a racked saw horse I don't use it felling I find it's a heavy saw my old shoulders are much for wear at 51 years old do you think the 500i would be to big your opinion would be much appreciated.

      @@dwaynedawe930 Hi, just giving my opinion as I've used both saws,
      If you don't have to use a bar over let's say 28inch the 462 would be the one I would buy, as it pulls easily up tt that size bar.
      If you're going to use longer bars, then 500i.
      The 462 is a little bit lighter and has awesome power with good fuel economy, in my opinion the best all-rounder.

      @daveyboy6985 thanks Dave the 462 is what I'm going to go with im only running a 20 inch bar so I think the 462 would be a better saw for me thanks for the input my friend really appreciate it 👍👍

    One thing about the air sistem of the 462 it uses an "air injection" principle,and the 500i does not. If Stihl would use similar principles of air cleaning sistem from Husqvarna they would be at their peak .

  • @jamesdalme8246
    @jamesdalme8246 Před 2 měsíci

    Dont waste $1700 on a computerized saw that you can not work on! The chainsaw was perfected in the 90s. The dealers want you to buy computerized saws so that you have to run back to them cap in hand to fix it. I have a Stihl 044 that was made in the early 90s that has 5.4 hp at 14 pounds, and stil cuts and runs like a scalded ape. Thats not a huge leap in technology after over 30 years to get the non mtronic 462.

      Neither of you know what you're talking about. The "R" in a Stihl saw's description refers to a "wrap handle". The "R" has nothing to do with it's carburetor.
