Holme Fell is one of the hills that Wainwright featured in Book 4 (The Southern Fells) of the Pictorial Guides. In this film Andy Beck takes a circular walk over this fell in the autumn when the colours of the landscpe are probably at their best. He also explains how Holme Fell (which AW describes as " one of the most attractive of Lakelands fells.") nearly didn't get included by the famous guidebook writer.
NEW FEATURE: If you have enjoyed this film and found it informative why not "buy me a coffee" as a reward for my time and efforts? www.buymeacoffee.com/andyH1
You will see that there is no sponsorship within the film, Andy makes these films solo and free from affiliation to share his days out on the landscape where he sketches and paints.

Thank you Ken. It's another nice little fell for a wander, especially at this time of year (autumn)

Very well put together that Andy, really enjoyed it.

Really enjoyed this Andy. Like a Tv program. I shot sunset that evening from Ivy Crag. The filming at hodge close was for a Netflix series called the Witcher where the actor who played the latest Superman (Henry Cavill) plays the main character. Shame we didn’t meet up. Hope you’re doing well. The painting looked good. Interesting points about Wainwright. You’re right about that Boulder not landing on the foot path. Would have totally blocked access from yew tree tarn.

Thanks James, as I left the valley I could see the sunset, it looked amazing, hope that you got some good shots. By chance I met Ian Worth up there as well. Yes, in the past week they moved over here to Teesdale to carry on filming. Doing fine thanks, plenty of work to do. Just editing the next film :)

Another fine route Andy and great to watch it back to back with Binsey. Yew Tree Farm - has connections with Beatrix Potter we were told when buying some fine Belted Galloway steak and Herdwick lamb a few years ago. Nice to see Holme Fell in the sunshine, it was shrouded in mist in February and was hard work to navigate even direct from the quarry at Hodge Close. Great video's as always Sir!

Thanks Graham, kind comments. Yes, the farm at Yew Tree was one of Beatrix Potter's I think but I now always think of it as the one which was used in the Film Miss Potter, they couldn't have built a film set with a more perfect location and look. :)

Loving the videos. Very detailed route descriptions, as well as good knowledge of the fells themselves.

Looks a really nice walk Andy. Good video with plenty of good information. I will certainly consider this route as we have not been on Holme Fell yet. Cheers. Eddie.

Thank you so much , loved this , would love to have seen a close up of your painting though !
Would be even better if we saw you painting , en plein air is becoming a massive movement, but for those of us new to it ,it we would love to see more demos please ! Your videos are absolutely lovely though! 🥾🎨

Thank you Anthea. It is hard to know where just to pitch the content, for walkers, for artists etc. There is a film of plein air sketching on my channel, a painting of Bowes Castle but I will be doing more.

Thanks for that. Have done that walk a few times in the past. Wonder what was happening up at Hodge Close? That's an interesting place to explore - took my children down inside the quarry a few times when they were young. Also used to be some interesting CZcams videos done by divers - rather them than me!

Love your videos! I'm in the US so I'll never get to visit your country. That first pic of you sitting by the lake startled me because it looks so much like a certain part of Watauga Lake here in NE TN. BTW, what breed of dog accompanies you on your trips? Looks like he might have some greyhound in him? I love his enthusiasm and his tail-wagging! ::smiles::
I only wish I could walk the lengths you do in your videos. Unfortunately, due to injuries, I can barely walk a quarter of a mile. Nevertheless, I can walk with you vicariously when I do my ten minutes a day on the elliptical, trying to strengthen the knee and leg.
Like you, I look at your walks, the scenery etc. as potential painting subjects. A friend and I went canoeing last year on a small dammed-up part of the local river and we took tons of photos as potential painting subjects. Haven't gotten around to doing them yet however!
Yes, we definitely need to see more of your sketching! Need something to inspire us. :)
Also, absolutely *love* the music you pick. Can you give some information about it?

Hi, Thanks for the kind comment, I am so glad that you enjoy my films. In answer to your questions....firstly my dog is a cross bred dog which we got as a rescue dog from the Dogs trust. We think that he is a setter/visla cross. I do plan on making some videos of shorter walks that I do so keep watching. Dont worry about not getting round to painting subjects yet, your should see my archive of photographs of potential painting ideas :) As for the music, for this one I used free to use music off You Tube audio. It is called Moving On by Wayne Jones. Thanks again

Lovely walk mate. Do you have post code for where you parked. And can you overnight park there?

    • @AndyBeckTeesdale
      @AndyBeckTeesdale  Před 2 lety

Thanks Damien. The layby that I used is right next to Yew Tree tarn LA21 8DP. Not sure if you can park in many places these days overnight unless they are authorised locations. There is a NT car park 100m south which may be one of those ones which now allow ON stays for a small fee.
