I've never seen the German version of the musical, but I did see the Hungarian version with my favourite Hungarian musical actors. I loved the character of Mrs. Danvers in live, as the actress playing her has such a pressure in her voice and in her presence, that with her first lines (in the song when the newlyweds arrive to Manderley), she smashed everybody in their seats. I literally forgot (or was too scared) to breathe for a good half minute! And she can keep this pressuring up 'till the end. (it comes through on videos as well if you watch the lives with Janza Kata) And it was only the begining, she built up all the pressure to top it with the song "Rebecca", that I was shaking when I've gone to the café on the break.

Hey Amy! I know this isn't quite a scandal, but your video on the Tony nominations this year inspired me to write an article for my school's entertainment magazine about the Lightning Thief and ageism and classism within Broadway It definitely feels like shows that are more directed towards younger or less formal audiences are looked down upon by the industry. As soon as you brought up how the Lightning Thief got no nominations, I thought of a few shows that had similar things happen to them. Gen Z is known as the activist generation, and I know that entertainment isn't as serious as all the other issues that we fight for, but I think that we can definitely fight with a similar spirit to defend our favorite shows, and that's what I wrote the article about!

here's my pitch for Rebecca: The Musical On Broadway: The Musical
im sorry if some things don't add up english wise, English is not my first language and im really only doing this for fun at 3 am
the opening song is Ben and louise seeing Rebecca in Austria, kind of has Changing Lives from The Prom vibes. They're really enthusiastic about it and can't wait to bring it to Broadway.
I need there to be a song about marks safari. this song would have It Roars from Mean Girls vibes
There would be a very dramatic song about the malaria guy dying and a big part of the investments being gone. the malaria guy could be like the Wizard in the flashbacks in Wicked, by that i mean hes kind of mysterious and you cant really see his face (bc he doesn't exist) this is also the only investor actually played by someone (the other two are only referred to)
the ny times guy realises something dodgy is going on. the audience is made to believe he is Bethany Walsh and Sarah Finkelstein (bc that's what i was expecting lol)
a song about Bethany Walshs emails called Bethany Walsh
the act one finale is a song about the email from sarah Finkelstein and Larry decides to pull out his investments. this song would kind of sound like Monster by Dodie or Hurricane from Hamilton, called Sarah Finkelstein
act two opening song is ben sprecher crying in front of McDonald's in the rain
then we move to Bens meeting with the fbi and he realises mark cant be trusted. (possibly a song like Boys Like You by Dodie???)
then a very touching scene where mark T tells Ben he doesn't want to be his publicist anymore. ben sings a song similar to the last part of Words Fail from Dear Evan Hansen in which he wonders if bringing Rebecca to Broadway was a good idea after all.
a sequence like in DEH with voice over news anchors telling the story of marks fake investors, mark being arrested, basically everything that had happened up until that point.
then a song like The Reynolds Pamphlet from Hamilton in which Mark T confesses he is Bethany Walsh and Sarah Finkelstein. [a long, dramatic black out]
A flashback sequence from mark Ts pov from the last week of September with reprises from Bethany Walsh and Sarah Finkelstein. a song which dives into mark Ts motivations and moral dilemmas.
the show ends with a Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story from Hamilton type song which explains where some of the main characters are now and what happened to them after all this happened.
im sorry if this was very long i originally started this with like 2 song ideas but as I was writing more and more came to my mind. please comment on this if you have any other ideas. id love to see what others think about this

Omggggg I (a german person) used to be OBSESSED with this musical when I was younger (before I got into international musical theatre) because it's one of the few actually good shows that have over here and I was always like "okay but this deserves way more recognition" and since I read about how it was supposed to be on Broadway but then it didn't because of "financial issues", I've always wondered WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED, so I'm really excited for this video 😍

There actually are alot more good german / austrian musicals! I love Mozart! and Matterhorn. Maybe also because my favourite actors are in those XD Plus, there also are alot of nice german versions of other musicals. Legally Blonde I actually prefer over the english version, Romeo & Juliet is ok and my fave is Artus Excalibur :D

German and Austrian musicals have generally so much potential. The Vienna version of "Rebecca" was gorgeous. (The Hungarian production is even better for my taste.) "Elisabeth" could be an international hit. Even something like "Mozart!" may be a great project with right approach. Such a pity the failing of "TDV" practically closed this window for European productions.

(Upbeat gospel style number) Sarah and Bethany duet: “Larry we’ve got no doubt, baby you gotta get out”

There's a Broadway show controversy I think you'd be interested in surrounding the show Rag Dolly, which closed in 1986 after just FIVE DAYS on Broadway! It was part of a cultural exchange program between the US and Russia and was supposed to be a wholesome kid's show starring Raggedy Ann, with some big names on the project.
It closed due to bad reviews and angry parents complaining about the dark themes and imagery, such as mentions of hell, a sexy seductress bat, and even a character contemplating su*cide with a noose around her neck.
    Moscow loved it though!

Rebecca is one of my favorite musicals, I have been waiting SO LONG for someone to make a video about this mess! I remember that Sierra Boggess had been cast as the lead character and pulled out in like 2012 for schedule conflicts and dodged not a bullet but a cannonball. I don't know if current Broadway audiences would appreciate Rebecca these days (it'd probably end up going the Tanz der Vampire way) but Audra McDonald would be a fantastic Mrs Danvers, if it ever happened.

Seriously, Michael Kunze has the worst luck with Broadway. The guy has written really awesome musicals, and every time Broadway attempted to adapt his work, they ended up screwing up catastrophically. I mean the Germans (and Europeans in general I guess) have managed to adapt English musicals very well throughout the years, but the Americans just can't seem to get anything right when it comes to adaptation!
