    I love the way you find beauty in everyday things that most take for granted. BTW your Color and Light book is great read and reference. I found it very instructional and useful as a photographer even though the book is aimed at painting. :) Thanks for sharing your artistry through these great videos.

    I am just going to have to learn to take my time.

  • @Citizen_X.
    @Citizen_X. Před 7 lety +1

    Mr. Gurney thanks for another wonderful video. I have observed that when drawing, in some videos you hold the pencil in an over-hand grip and sometimes using the common 'writing' grip. Is this pre-determined based on size and subject or just a random thing that you don't worry about much?

    • @JamesGurney
      @JamesGurney  Před 7 lety +1

      I'm not really conscious of that. I guess I use the overhand grip for the big stuff and the normal writing grip for the smaller details.

  • @learnsustainability
    @learnsustainability Před 7 lety

    WOW! I always spend a lot of time on the pencil phase but I rarely get it to overlap so perfectly with a photo of the reality like this one. That's incredible! I guess I need to keep drawing/painting for a few more decades :-) Can you please remind us how long that took? 3 hours? I have to say, your gouache videos have gotten me seriously into gouache and it is my favourite these days: I love how it feels under the brush when you apply it (unlike acrylic) and the mat finish is beautiful.

    • @JamesGurney
      @JamesGurney  Před 7 lety +2

      Thanks! The drawing took about 40 minutes, and the painting about two hours more. So I guess it was about 3 hours.
