  • Have you ever had your travel trailer's fresh water tank empty itself going down the road? Boondocking is fun but having little to no water is not. I came up with a method/resolution that just might be helpful to you.

    Same issue. Our tank completely emptied while we drove to a boondocking site. When we returned home, our friend added the valve you made and the problem was fixed. Thanks!!

      I am glad that I was able to help. Make a reminder to keep it open when filling or emptying the tank. Pretty much only close it when traveling, otherwise you will drastically damage the tank.

    Thanks for the tip! We have the same trailer and had a similar issue just this past weekend, at a state park with only electrical hookups. I filled the fresh tank before leaving the house but the gauge showed 2/3rds full when we got there. It ran down to empty on the gauge by Saturday afternoon (3 young kids, still learning water management :) ) but there was a water spigot a few sites down from us so I was able to use a 3 gallon water tote and make a few trips back and forth to get us through the weekend.

    IMPORTANT: with this vent system, when the water begins flowing from the overflow, TURN THE WATER SUPPLY OFF, and then shut the vent valve off, to avoid blowing up the water tank

    Thanks for the great video! We have the same model and believe we experienced this on our first trip, which happens to be a boon docking one. With the fresh water overflow, is there a possibility that we find water near our toilet area when in drive? When we got to the site, I suspect some water splashes out from our toilet because I can tell the lid of toilet got water slushes around.

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  Před rokem

      I usually keep the water turned off and the toilet empty for travels. Although I have not had that problem, you shored up my thoughts on the matter. Thanks. Hope that your future boondocking trips go better in the future. Also, (I made this mistake) Do not forget to open the valve when stationary. I forgot to open it and almost messed up the tank. Dont tell the wife but she got me to doing something else and I forgot. It was her fault. LOL. Wink.

    We do a lot of higher altitude boon docking. Ie, filling at sea level and camping at 4k, 5k, or 6k feet. Do you ever have problems with tank in altitude change, with no venting available (since the valve is closed while moving)? As this process is much simpler than replumbing the vent hose on my heritage glen

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  Před měsícem

      I have not had any issues at altitudes that you described.

    Someone added a valve to the overflow of my trailer before I bought it. After 4 years of ownership, I messed up bigtime today. I forgot to shut the water off when my tank overflow began spilling water. I shut the valve off, but did not shut the water supply off. I overpressurized my tank (didn't break it) and bent the 3 steel support straps. Another repair to do ☹️

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  Před 3 měsíci

      That is my fear as well. I hope that the reapirs go easily. Let me know how it goes

    • @46fd04
      @46fd04 Před 3 měsíci

      Visited an RV repair place today. They suggested using a floorjack and some 2x4 wood, and to try and press the steel bands straight. If the tank does not leak after doing this, they said I should be ok. I am away 2 weeks. Will try this later.@@HowToRV

    Maybe add some hose to the line to make an easier access to it and less likely chance to forget about it

    Wait, I'm confused. Isn't that the low point drain? Why would the overflow be at the bottom?

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  Před 2 lety

      My low point drains for the cold and hot water are located at the front of the RV. This is the drain on mine for just the freshwater tank.

  • @mkleyn99
    @mkleyn99 Před 2 lety +1

    Isn’t that what the vent is for at the inlet where you fill up your fresh water? I have a little screen right next to it that I can hear air coming out from when filling up mine…

    • @holdenmonaro2427
      @holdenmonaro2427 Před 2 lety +1

      I have a Cherokee Wolf Pup and had the same issue. The overflow should be routed to that vent next to the fill cap but the manufacturer decided that requires too much effort. I’ve checked a few others at the dealership since then and it’s the same story. I started using a small rubber stopper once I discovered the issue and it works fine. I insert it once the water starts flowing from the overflow then pull it when we reach our destination.

    This FR company builds junk ! Cheap corner cutters! They don’t care. When I asked for warranty repair about the vent I was told it wasn’t covered.

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  Před rokem

      From what I understand, the warranty is actually sold to the dealership that you bought it from. The dealer is responsible to sending any claims to the manufacturer. Weird I know but that has been my experience.

    I do have a mess on my 2022 StarCraft, I saw the control panel and show fresh water tank full, soon I notice under the sink where my water pump is, a bad water leak, than at the bottom of the trailer every where. My old 2014 keystone was much easer to fill and shows tank full just when overflow, easy and no problem. Now I am very scary to fill this new 2022 water tank, so many technology and no one put a overflow drain ? Be aware, StarCraft sucks !!!!!
