I noticed before the video starts it shows the stabilizers set down on concrete blocks .. you should never ever set your stabilizers down or your jacks down or anytype of landing gear straight down on to concrete blocks.. you should put the concrete block down and then piece of 2x6 or 2 pieces of 2x4 side by side ontop of the concrete block then your stabilizer or jacks set down on that.. metal on concrete can cause and does make the concrete block break/crack over time ive seen it happen.. not a pretty sight
I have a truck camper ,it has a sureflow pump. The pump works but dose not pump water, I don't think it has a filter on it. Could the pump be clogged ?
Why i have boiling hot water at times then days just barly warm. Then days hot again
Great video. Thank you.
Great video! Many have the same water heater and in my unit there is a 2nd electric switch for the heater inside the trailer that needs to be switched on as well.
That is great to know. Do you mind sharing the make and model?
I had Goodyear Endurance tires on my tandem axle boat trailer. They lasted for 6 years and, honestly, they look like I could get at least another year out of them. But with a road trip coming up, it's just not worth the risk. I went to order another set and they were out of stock. I am going with Carlisle tires this time. The price is much better and the reputation seems to be almost as good. Thanks for posting.
I would love to hear back on how the Carlisle tires last over time.
Atwood G6A-7 will lite and burn maybe 10 minutes a the gas valve 91602 will click and the burner and pilot goes out. I have changed the gas valve and thermocouple twice and the burner tube assembly once. What is going on? Thanks
I found this online. It may be helpful and another outlet for you to ask your question. www.etrailer.com/question-546521.html
I have a shurflo water pump, 7.5 amps 55psi, to use on an off grid solar system. I have my solar system set up, but i dont know what i need to install exactly, between the pump and the battery
Outside of an on/off switch, I believe that the manufacturer recommends a 10 amp fuse. In you application, I would suggest looking for a 12v blade fuse with a water proof fuse holder. To be safe, please check shurflows website or your manual.
So what do i need in-between my battery and the water pump? What kind of fuse block or fuse? What kind? Anything else in between?

Hey ive been at an rv park for 2 month. This morning i heard crackling sound outside and noticed the watwr heater was on as well as the switch and it was coming from that. Ive never used the hot water and im not hooked up to the water as i have a leak right now. Why would it automatically turn on like that after 2 months thats never happened. Was super hot at the valve
Some folks have panels inside that also can turn on the water heater electrical. Check to make sure that did not happen.
On Demand is a NIGHTMARE for boondocking. We just bought a brand new 2024 Keystone Rv Springdale with a on demand system. It is definitely annoying. I talked to the dealer and they say you just have to deal with the air gap that needs to be purged to get it running. Not amused. This isnt going to be useful for boondocking.
I have to completely agree. Since the video was made, I converted back to the tank version.
My problem is I think that it’s tripping the breaker inside of my camper because it’s so fucking hot outside
I think I'm in the same boat.. I can't have my ac and even a TV going right now without it tripping the 15amp breaker.. I turn the TV its fine.
LOL....That could very well be. If you have tripping, look at the extension cord size as well. I put a 30 amp pedestal like you would find at a campground in at my house and never have any issues.
I have a tankless hot water heater. My experience has been. I can leave the water running, but mine only stays hot for a few minutes and then it goes cold and then it goes hot and then it goes cold. Got any ideas?
Typically the flow rate has to be high enough to keep turn on the heating part of the water heater. I had this problem before when the flow at a campground wasnt enough. I used the campgrounds water to keep my freshwater tank full and used the campers pump to run everything. Only had this happen once but it worked.
question. inside my camper attached to my water heater is a plug and an outlet. What is it for?? Does it mean my water heater works with electric if I have it plugged in. It is located where the bypass valves are. Thank you
That is correct. if you have an outlet and a plug like you do at home, then the water heater will have the ability to run a heating element. Check with the dealer on how yours works exactly if different from what you see in the video.
Well my problem is I just bought this RV. It's a 2007 Dutchmen Grand Junction fifth wheel it has gas and electric water heater. I haven't looked at it yet but I hooked the water up after the power company had put the meter in then I noticed the switch was turned on so there was power going to the camper before I had the water turned on I have not looked to see if there's a switch in there or not I just hope it didn't burn anything up while I was gone. I am an unfamiliar territory with these things. I just hope the person before me had the switch turned off to the electric water heater when it gets daylight I will check it out I guess but I was there for an hour and there was still no hot water
It is possible that the heating element has gone bad for which I recommend you get a technician to check and replace if needed. I dont know about all RVs but mine will still work on propane even if the element is not working. There are electrical resets as well and you may get lucky and they are tripped. See the video again for where those are located on mine.
@@HowToRV everything is working now
That’s great news. What did you find out?
@@HowToRV it was the switch
Thanks
Absolutely. Anytime.
We do a lot of higher altitude boon docking. Ie, filling at sea level and camping at 4k, 5k, or 6k feet. Do you ever have problems with tank in altitude change, with no venting available (since the valve is closed while moving)? As this process is much simpler than replumbing the vent hose on my heritage glen
I have not had any issues at altitudes that you described.
The only time I leave the gray tank open is when we shower other wise the valve stay closed
Good to know. Thanks for the feedback
Thank you for the video. It really clears up a lot of us. But when you were talking about the 30 amp switch tripping, were you talking about the 30 amp switch in the rv or the 30 amp switch at the rv electrical hook up box at the campground? It's the outside electrical 30 amp switch that keeps tripping for us today. I love the tips about turn off what you aren't using.
I was refering to the RV itself. I had had issues at campgrounds before and it is their responsibility to resolve.
Mine doesnt have that switch outside
If you do not have it outside and do not have one on the control panel inside either, you may not have an electrical heating element. Another way to check is to look at the back of the water heater and see if there is a electric cable plugged into an outlet like you would see at home or a electical cable that is not 12v. It would be much bigger in size.
Very helpful and clear explanation. Thanks!
Absolutely and your welcome
My pump doesn't seem to be drawing water from the tank
Look for air gaps in the line going to the pump.
Funny thing, I just used my 25 gallon Blue Boy for the first time and why did they put the dump valve on the right side? Every RV Dump Station is on the left…so I have to unhook it and turn it around to dump…
Typically, the blue boy is unhooked and pulled to a remote dumping location for which you can pull in at any direction.
I use marine grease for my axlles& used it on my hitch ball cause it is waterproof and not affected by water
I have recently had done the same thing with my axels. Wild part is that I do not think that the factory put much grease in the axels. It took a few tubes to fill the axel cavity.
I had Castle Rock China bombs. Doesnt matter how well you maintain or keep air pressure, they'll blow prematurely. I had 2 blowouts in the same trip. I put on the Goodyear Endurance. Get those China bombs asap.
I agree. I think that the RV industry should mandate that the tires be of higher quality. Its not only for the safety of you and your RV but for others around you in the road as well. Glad you made the change :)
If I’m hooked up to city water, will the water tank for the heater automatically fill up? Pop up camper owner here too…not sure if the same concepts apply.
As long as the water heater is bypassed, I do not see where there would be a problem. The water heater should be filling up on city water.
Clear and specific information. Great.
Glad it was helpful!
My problem is my camper breaker keeps flipping not the house breaker
I had the same problem a couple of years ago and had to replace the breaker in the RV. Believe or not, they can go bad too. The failure design of breakers is to cut off easier over time so that they do not create a problem. Hope this helps
@@HowToRV you or anyone one know if I can replace a 20AMP breaker with a bigger one? I literally have 5 things plugged in in the camper and it keeps flipping my AC
@@davidkearns8993 there are so many types. I unplugged all power and had mine pulled out.l took it to a reputable RV dealer and asked them to order me a new one.
@@HowToRV yea here’s my last problem I have the camper plugged into my shed breaker that nothing is on besides camler but I have to use a extension cord so the camper plug will reach I’m not sure if that’s a reason why it’s flipping
@@davidkearns8993 if you have a generator to try that may be able to tell if it’s the problem or not. Also check to see if your extension cord is 20 amp rated. Usually has one prong on the male end that is sideways looking.
Just curious, do you think the stabilizers should be put down before or after opening slides? Or does it not make a difference?
I have tried it both ways and did not find it to be any different. I only have one slide so it results could be different if someone has more than that.
Thanks for the info.
You bet!
Recently we had an issue with keeping the temp cool in Rv. At night we set it at 72, in the morning we knew we were leaving the dogs for a few hours so i set the temp down to 65. Temp outside were reaching into the 90’s. I noticed on my MARCELL temp monitoring system after an hour that the temp in the Rv rose to 75, again i checked in an hour and it rose to 80. Obviously we headed back to Rv to see what was going on and to be sure dogs were ok. We arrived and sure enough the temp rose to 85. Dogs were fine, we had left fans blowing also so they were ok. I was able to contact my RV tech to ask for advice and he suggested that we check the coils from inside the Rv to see if they were frozen. They were, solid block. We turned off ac for 3 hours to melt the ice then turned ac back on lowering in increments of 5 degrees at a time. We eventually got the Rv temp down to normal 74. My tech told me that these ac units can’t maintain the 65 degree temp we set it at because of the high temps on the outside of the camper. That the range is usually 20 difference. My question is is this correct information? What can we expect from our AC? It is a 2023 Cougar 25RDS, with a Coleman Mach AC unit. Not sure on the number. Any help with this would be appreciated…..thanks in advance Pam
Tech is right. Typical RVs cal cool to 20 degrees less than the outside temp. If your ac has the ability to, i recommend folks to open the AC vent so that the cold air is blowing directly into the rv vs out of the AC outlets that are all of ver RV. This helps the cold air get out and not freeze up. It also help getting the coldest air possible out of the unit. If the AC is running through the ducts to feed the whole RV, it is possible that the ducts are warming up from the sun beating on the roof. This only good for spot cooling but we put our dog crates under the AC if we are going to leave for an extended period of time. I am glad to hear that you used a temp monitor that you can check remotely. So many people with animals don't that. If you are still getting ice build up, check the internal coils and mechanisms to make sure that they are good and clean. This allows for proper air flow. If al that is good to go and you are still getting ice, it may be time to replace the AC. Unlike cars and houses, the AC units on RVs can not be re charged with refrigerant and have to be replaced. NEVER EVER put a shutoff valve in the suction of a pump. The pump may be designed to run dry but still, NEVER DO THIS!
I completely understand your comment but it has been working for me for years. Although, if i was to forget and leave the valve closed, you are correct that it could damage the pump.
This has some great information, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
My water is not very hot it is like lukewarm what is wrong with it
There are so many different reasons that it would only heat up a little. I would start by having someone check the temperature controller. That is your cheapest route.
I use the 3 in 1 stuff except for the slide. My slide is a lippert and the stated to use CRC power lube with PFTS. Another thing I do is use the Rubber Protectant on the seals around the entry door and the storage compartments.
I dry lube is great for metal parts as you stated. I never gave a thought to the door seal. Thanks for the thought.
The problem I'm having is my pump is not turning off when I stop using the water.
The 3 most comon issues are the pressure settngs and a possible water leak or the pump is pulling in air from the line coming from the fresh water tank to the inlet of the pump.
Does the water tank have to be empty?
No it doesn’t. Only needs to be empty to replace if needed.
Can you leave hot water heater on all day and how long does it take to heat up
You can leave it on all day as long as you have water in it. For how longit takes, it depends on the size of your water heater but mine takes around 15 to 30 minutes to reheat from complete cold.
When you installed the inverter under your bed, did you put some type of venting so it doesn’t get too hot? If so, does that venting go in your camper and does that heat up your camper?
I did put a vent in to let the hot air exscape. The venting does go into the capmer but I do not run the inveter to its max capacity all of the time so the heat buildup does not need to turn the fan on all the time.
Its the bootysnapple song NICE!
LOL....:)
Thank you
You are very welcome. Hope I was able to help.
It would be more engaging if you take your sunglasses off.
I have learned to not wear them since making this video. Appreciate the feedback
@@HowToRV Awesome thanks for the tips though they're great. I will have to catch up on your newer videos.
Lubrication, not lubricated. Duh
Ok...Thanks for commenting
How heavy are these to be able to lift into the back of my truck
Good question. It depends on the size but mine is around 20 pounds or so. Its more awkward than anything.
@HowToRV is that weight of the tank empty? I have to leave the property to dump my tank and would have to put it in the back of my Jeep, and I am not super strong
Buy a grey water cap with a garden hose connection, and drain your GW at night.
Most locations around me specefically say to not drain to the ground. I agree that draining it every night is a solution as long as there is somewhere to put it.
Actually one other choice would be a custom hybrid - if you've got enough bay space or can trailer a unit you could have have both methods and select the option on-site.
I agree and appreciate the coment.
@@HowToRV Let me know if you take up the challenge to integrate a dual solution. Best!
Your only other choice is Limit your showers, and water conservation using body wipes etc are the alternative and premade sprays for dishes or paper cups /plates for the firepit.
Great idea. I love my showers but sometime a person has to do what they have to do. For dishes, I use biodegradable soap and an external water source.
Great video I checked my resistance on the new heating element I installed at it measure 10.3 just lime your video I still don't have hot water on the electric side. Any help would be appreciated
It is possible the the reset button on the water heater needs to be triggeres. Look for the Black button that has a rubber cover. I would love to hear what you found to be the issue when resolved.
Excellent! Thanks!
Anytime. Glad to help.
Can you leave the tankless WH on all the time at the temperature control panel, or does it need to be turned off each time after usage, as the traditional tanked ones?
You can do either. For myself, I turned it off when not in use to save on propane usage.
@@HowToRV Thank you very much for your reply. I should have asked more specifically if it actually uses additional propane if the temp control panel is on-? I thought that it only uses propane when the hot water is turned on (my control panel temp drops back down when not in use, even if the control panel is on)? Thank you.
