Another fun vintage video... Its September 2021 and your Hartley is nearly completed and Benjamin was riding his tractor through Versailles in today's video. I remember when Benjamin said "faster!" when riding with you on the gater. Your family is so wonderful to watch over the years! Thank you for sharing all you do!

As far a traditions with your son... the smallest things mean the most.... from the time I could remember, I had a Rudolph ornament that ALWAYS went right in front of the tree.... it started toward the bottom but moved up as I grew. And the first Christmas with my son, he tried to grab a bow that came off a package and I picked it up and stuck it on the tree out of his reach.... every since then, we always stick our bows on the tree after we opened our gifts... looks so cute.... even my granddaughters do it now.... the simplest things can mean so much.....
Merry Christmas oh wonderful take your time off and enjoy your baby. I know it not my place to say how many kids you should have, just my older perspective, of being a only child. Growing up I hated it, cousins are not the same thing as having a sibling. Yes it nice to have them but when your parents get older to have that support, would be wonderful. I always wish I had some one that loved my parents like I did that could help make hard decisions with me. A sibling that when my parents were gone I still was not alone some one to share my family memories with that was there and had them with me. Sorry if I over stepped. Just one only child’s point of view. Have a wonderful time with Benjamin. God Bless you guys.

I once said I was done having kids only to find God thought that comment humorous. As they got older I taught all three how to work in the garden with me.
haha I am just like you. I hand write everything. To-do lists, grocery lists, reminder notes, everything is written down. If I don't, I forget!
You guys have given me more than you could know, I'm so glad you found your way to CZcams and stuck at it. I spend months at a time in bed with a genetic illness, every time I get well enough to get back to life I have to rebuild physically, mentally; I have a backlog of life to deal with and everything seems so overwhelming. I've learned to walk again twice and at twenty-five years old every time I have a recovery to make it brings my self belief down. I think, 'I can't do this'.
But, when I'm unwell in bed I watch your videos and it takes away all of the fear and self-doubt, because I just can't wait to get back to my garden and get some projects going. Nature and creating are so healing and every time things go black you guys manage to guide me back home to them. We couldn't be from more different walks of life, but you've bought such joy to mine. I'm so thankful to you. I've just ordered a sweatshirt so I can look forward to Spring planting in it. Cheers guys and a Merry Christmas from Wales

I had a huge vole problem this year and the only thing that ended up working was a cat!! Buddy showed up one day and he is the best thing ever!! No more voles and he is my best friend!!
As much as I will miss your videos as often as I am used to seeing them, enjoy your time with your family. There's nothing as magical as a wide-eyed child at Christmas. Merry Christmas!

I write everything down on paper too. Garden plans are usually laid out on grid paper in pencil. It drives my husband nuts because he's a computer guy. I think people who lean towards the creative/artist side think better when we hand write ideas.

The best thing I have found to keep the cats out of the trees is the put the scented icicles on the bottom of the tree. I’m not sure exactly what they’re called but they’re a little sticks that are very heavily scented and cinnamon or evergreen and the cats can’t stand them. Through the year I also hang them on my house plants. I have three cats and I haven’t had a problem this far after using them.

Last year, when my daughter pointed and went “mm ma” just like that, I realized that’s how she was asking me “mom, what is that?” So maybe that’s when Benjamin is doing too! Now my daughter is a year and either months and having pretty decent conversations with me, it’s the coolest thing! Also, Laura! I still make to do lists all the time with paper and pencil! Lol
Oh, Laura, so glad I"m not the only one. Lists on paper written in pencil - never pen - are essential to my sanity. Also, it sounds like when Benjamin points and tries to talk, he's imitating something you do. If you think about it, you'll be able to figure out what it is. When my son was little he repeated a very specific nonsense phrase over and over. I finally figured out he was repeating our phone number. At the time, I was involved in a project that required a lot of phone work, so I said that number a lot.

Appreciate all the info. Writing down thoughts, plans, to do lists helps me too. That greenhouse “wishlist” item is SO APPEALING.
Merry Christmas to your family. When your son points to things and makes that "ma?" sound, he may be asking you to provide the word for what he's pointing at... at any rate, can't hurt to provide the vocabulary.
I think that Benjamin wants to know the plant variety 😉
Speech Pathologist here...Roy is spot on....FYI...Years ago they did a study of kids starting to walk....ON AVERAGE.. they move the equivalent of 9 football fields EVERY DAY....also 2-3 consistent "words " is typical at Ben's development..walking takes over talking...but just wait...once he masters walking he will be talking up a storm!! wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!

Your advice to new gardeners about utilizing a local nursery is so true. I fell in love with gardening 20 years ago. The local nursery staff are a wealth of information. I had two sons who are 2 1/2 years apart. They entertained each other throughout their childhood and it made gardening time easier for me. (Not that that is why I had two children! It just worked out that way. 🤗) Plus, they are still each other’s best friend.

I prefer paper as well Laura. And you are doing right in training Russell. As a former Veterinary assistant a water bottle set on stream is the best training tool. A lot of people don't know the difference between a greenhouse and a cold frame. A greenhouse is a building you keep plants permanently (like citrus when you live in Maine) and a cold frame is what you overwinter plants in during cold weather and start plants from seed earlier in the Spring than you can plant them in your area.
