Rock it out, Dad! Show those youngsters how it is done!!!! Happy Birthday! We love you!
May he rest easy with Jimi BB and Muddy SRV JDW and many many more. God has a heck of a guitar section
Renee Brown Your Dad was and is such an amazing gift to the world of music, and just...the world. No one like him. God bless and you, thank you for sharing him with us.
Renee any idea where your Dads guitars ended up?
:]
@renee Brown--I named my puppy after your Dad. He is a chocolate lab. Clarence Gatemouth Brown Major.
If his 1966 Gibson Firebird with the leather pick board is not in the Smithsonian, it should be. And he should be in every Music Hall of Fame on the planet.
Sadly, hurricane Katrina destroyed his house and all his belongings including all his awards
The piano player is one of the best most talented i ever have heard.
Gatemouth Brown was recording an album at "The Studio In The Country " in Bogalusa Louisiana, and I pulled up at Music World, looking through the plate glass window and I spotted Gatemouth playing guitar 🎸and I spent an incredible 30 minutes asking question after question, in which he was very generous in answering! Rest in Peace my brother!
Why is Gatemouth so mesmerizing? His playing looks effortless, and his style is unique.
Still the best live show I've ever seen was in Rochester, NY, around 1990, when two guys showed up, with a trombone and sax, and asked if they could sit in with Gatemouth and his band. He said OK, they were terrific, and he loved every minute of it. Huge smile on his face, as he would point at them to do a solo and sit back playing rhythm while he watched them play.
Kooool , when the MUSIC mattered !!
Masters recognize and appreciate talented artists . . . No competition, just soul🙏🏻
He passed away not long after Hurricane Katrina. A really great man and musician.
I saw him on this tour and met him afterwards and got his autograph.
He was a great player and a fine gentleman. Very underrated!
Just what ears were made for.
I have a T-shirt autographed by him, (and bought his CD then), from when I got to see him at The Santa Cruz Blues Festival back in 2000. Several other greats signed that same T-shirt. I will never wash it, and hardly ever used it. What a great musician.
He's purely and simply fantastic! A good mix of blues and other influences!!!! Thanks for this!!!!!
Gate was a stoned gas - ain't nobody picks a geetar like he did ! i had the chance to hear & meet Gate many a times - a wonderful sly & funny man - Lord rest his soul
The piano guy (Joe Krown) is an extremely good player
Also a master of Fiddle, Harmonica and a few more instruments. #GENIUS
Clapton brought him on tour quite a few years ago. Happy I got to see him.
You should hear Gate talk about that. Let's say he was not a happy camper
Damn. Piano is amazing.
Another musical jewel from here in the Golden Triangle (Beaumont, Port Arthur,Orange)...Gatemouth was an incredibly versatile musician who covered many genres and didn't necessarily like being recognized as a bluesman, but was a legendary one...I last saw him in Orange at a little community art show..Gate put on a great free show in the park for us and autographed my Bogulusa cd...He told me that's where his home was.....we miss him down here....thanks for posting this performance...visit our Museum of the Gulf Coast in Port Arthur,Tx or on their site ...
Greetings to Golden Triangle
I opened the Google map to see where it is
I'm from Greece 🇬🇷
Blues means much for me
And I'm trying to learn on guitar
It looks easy but it's not
Blues has power , is full of emotions
Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown sempre sensacional deveria viver pra sempre.
he makes it look so easy,
I first met Gate in Atlanta in 1985 at my friend's club: Blues Harbor and started following his music for the the next twenty years. He was a very personable entertainer and loved to joke with his fans. Gate came to Atlanta many times and i was always stage front center for his performances. Thanks for posting this amazing video.
R.I.P. Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown a great blues guitar player.
Eu moro no Brasil
Estou com com quase 60 anos de idade.
E só agora que estou descobrindo essa fera do blues.
Esse artista é um monstro sagrado do blues.
Deveria ter sido reconhecido mundialmente.
Deveria ter feito vários shows internacionais, inclusive no Brasil.
Mas infelizmente só agora que eu estou tendo a oportunidade de conhecer sua obra.
What a wonderful musician he was.
Thank You so much for posting this! Gatemouth has always been one of my favorite and biggest influences as a musician. While people are so worried about all they're pedals and perfect amp rigs, Gate just sits there with that beautiful old ass Non-Reverse Firebird through a Music Man 212 - 130 and just makes some of the most beautiful music ever. Rest In Peace Clarence, your my hero!
They don't make em like him anymore.
Yeah and what about his dynamics you have to lean to speaker to hear him when he plays softly.
Fingerstyle playing is best for this kind of music.
"Their' and 'you're'.
Interesting amp array!
Is he also playin thru the blackface fender?
my momma done told me,....blues in the night...heard this long ago on a player piano roll and loved it... thanks Gatemouth for the memory.
Just waves his hand in front of the guitar and it plays!
I love that Gatemouth Brown talking guitar :)
At 38:30 it's singing:
My mama done tol' me,
When I was in knee pants,
My mama done tol' me, Son!
A woman'll sweet talk
And give ya the big eye;
But when the sweet talkin's done,
A woman's a two face
A worrisome thing
Who'll leave ya t'sing
The blues in the night
I saw Gatemouth many years ago at the Ottawa Bluesfest. He played one of the smaller side stages so my Wife and I got nice and close to the stage, it was by far my favourite show of that week. He actually made his violin talk.
Love CGB! Absolutely indefinable
and yet worthy of all different categories and music. R.I.P!
Hot Damn I mean what a ya say, A time when the soul of music was alive and well no matter the racial / political atmosphere When musician's respected their brothers .I just missed this period by a few years give or take. Thanks God for recording, There isn't anything out there today worth emulating.Nothing notta the machine has ruined the music industry . God Bless these old souls I can only pray there's music in the next life. *Music sweet music how i wish i could kiss & caress* Jimi Hendrix!
Gatemouth Brown sure knows his string and what they can and can't do!
I smoked the hippie hay, with this man
Dang!!! First time I ever seen a guitar player point both amps at himself like monitors!!!
the biggest band ever, i ve heard them in festival jazz a vienne, they were terrific, with the big saxophone, the finest guy ever, where is he?
Great post. Love him! Miss him.
Amazing artist. He grew up in my home town in TX, what a legend!
His right hand especially blows my mind. Thanks for posting this!
This is sooo awesome. Enjoying this, wish I could have been there ! Much love, Gate ❤🎸❤
Classic - fantastic- Enjoyable - Thx for the share
A really nicely shot film and great sound. Fantastic to hear a genuine blues guitarist.
Great band. Very tight.🎹 🎸🎷🎤
thanks for posting this, he was a legend
I met Gate at a club in Vancouver and the first thing he wanted to know was where the weed was at. (we found it)
Gate played at a club that was next door to my salon at least twice a month ...the pipe was always a blend of tabacky and weed ...indeed
I also seen "Gate" twice in Vancouver. Once at the Town Pump and again at the Yale Hotel. Amazing talent!
bluesborn haha that’s bad ass brother. Did Gate toke out heavy style ?? He’s such a bad ass.
Too funny , yea u can find weed there , not a problem lol
@@wadeharten6600 nothing like a little sleazin on the lower eastside with gatemouth brown, too cool

Thank God I was raised on GATEMOUTH BROWN ....
great stuff...
wonderful performance. Thank you for posting! cheers serge
The piano player is Joe Krown, he 's one of the best here in New Orleans....!
Great stuff!
One tune n1 has anyone noticed that the drum bass accent is on the 2 and 4, along with the snare? This happens on quite a few of Gatemouth Brown tunes and it swings like hell!
I LIKE CLARENCE A LOT!!!!!!!
Une belle démonstration de blues, je sais pas si cette technique de guitare est vraiment légale mais ce qui est sur ; c'est qu'elle SONNE super bien !!
Nice Band
Very talented guitarist

@@mmmcmh1 🙏🏻
monster keyboard player there
He's the only guitar player I've ever seen play a whole solo without using his index finger at all.
I never noticed that about him. Just another unique and cool thing. So glad he toured a lot.
Toy Caldwell of the Marshall Tucker Band was excellent at playing with his thumb
Modes9 see: Wes Montgomery
Have another look for goodness sakes !
.....among the best....yves.
He died of lung cancer and heart disease, had nothing to do with Katrina...he was evacuated to Texas during the flooding. He was actually getting medical treatment but left the hospital against doctors orders before he died.
Is there a part 2 to this ?
Talking Violin. I have to love this man's music.I think he teached Albert Collings to use
Capo?
Alligator skin in his guitar? Where is that guitar now?
When hurricane Katrina completely destroyed his house no guitars were found anywhere is something I have heard before, house was pretty much gone, an area of debris for miles and miles.

Dollar got the blues is the only the getting me through this inflation rn
This man invented "the groove"
Take a long look at his face ........remind you of anyone ........Chuck ?
What year is this event?
😸
Noice!
Want to learn to phrase and evolve as a blues guitar player???
Study "The Gate" for a solid year and see how you evole and progress,,,
WOW!! You are right on. I AM studying him and he is more than I can put into words. Talk about saying something with your instrument. I hear the humour of T Monk in his solos yet mixed with gumbo and what's impressive is his humility. ASs good a lead player as he is ..you can see him playing rhythm when the keyboard takes a solo. AMAZING!!
Is his tuning regular? Or special one such as Albert Collins?
Who is playing the piano? He is solid
morning sirs !
Nice to be nice (A.K.) , my time is expensive & i have a weed family too (Gate), upcomming to be Master Blender (Shakespear says:. so WHAT (Miles ) because Dollar got the blues & I payed my does
so i step on steam- board looking for a steamer
FUCKIN A
Do you play the piano? Post something you do, we would love to critique you.
:D
472? WTF??? Very very sad... And happy... I know what is this... Sorry bout who doesn't....
I actually enjoy his fiddle playing more than the guitar!
he also asked to be paid for requests - not always the most pleasant guy to meet.
I saw him at least 20 times & never seen anything of the sort. I liked to request The Drifter & he was always happy to play it. He approached me at the bar once between sets & we had a very pleasant conversation. The only thing that would upset him was people talking loudly why they were playing.
We got him stoned in the shop at McCabe's in Santa Monica before a show in the '80s. Good times!
Se sale
I guess JJ Cale has learnt a lot from this man. It looks like i hear JJ playing his music sometimes.
Jeeesss,,,, please give the keyboardplayer a piano or a grand piano. He´s too good for that plastic toy!
They bring their own instruments.
Can't stand that piano player....Everything he plays is just another cliche...(add-boring/ unoriginal/and corny)....the way he solo's,anyone would think he's the star of the show...Clarence should have taken him out back and given him a case of lead poisoning
you re a kind of " human" being for whom no-one ( at his right senses ) will shad a tear, or a sigh ( on the contrary, if there d be a sigh, it d be a one of a deep relief..) once you will finaly leave this Earth. One life, spent completely in vain; what a waste. ( God only knows, why there s need, if any, for creatures like you, to be crawling round this this planet; I can t see any ). As jewish saying says it, you don t deserve to be remembered, never-ever, in any of them possible worlds. and why should you be ? in all them days of your living, you left not a trace worth remembering; shame on you. Yes, this is how vain you are. R.I.P.
Well hes there playing and you are set there just talking he in the limelight you in the darkness .
😐🤔🤨💭 I think anyone not liking Gatemouth would kick a Kitten, 🦵🦶💫💥🐈👀❗ G-G.
