The adventure is so much bigger and more rewarding when you tackle it with a small machine. Anyone can cross the country on a big touring rig... a giant, motorized La-Z-Boy recliner hurtling down the highway at breakneck speeds... never slowing down enough to absorb the scenery that it's passing through. You can experience more of the scenery on a slower, smaller bike, so the ride becomes the journey instead of just rushing to reach the destination. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Great video brother - thank you! It's so refreshing to see someone not wringing the hell out of the engine, and just enjoying the ride! So many people want to race ahead at top speed, but hey man, isn't it great to just chill and just enjoy the journey? I have a few motorcycles and have enjoyed many varied trips. The one's that I really enjoy nowadays are the slower rides, on my smallest bike (a Honda XL200), where one has to plan the trip on back roads and dirt, and stay off the highways. Thanks for the feedback, Jim! I'm a generation younger than you (just turned 50), but I still grew up when kids knew what real freedom (and responsibility) meant. I grew up in rural Oklahoma back in the 70's, and we had lots of fields, dirt roads, ponds, and other places to explore. Our parents let us roam free and they trusted us to keep out of major trouble. I started riding trail bikes at 6 years old, and I was out adventure riding and moto-camping with my friends before I was even into my teens. That adventurous freedom infected my psyche at an early age, and I can't imagine not knowing or having those experiences. Like you said... I don't plan to "grow up" anytime soon. I heard a slogan on another CZcams channel ( @BikerBitsAUS , czcams.com/users/BikerBitsAUS ) several years ago: "Adventure before dementia". I hadn't distilled my thoughts in quite those terms, but that phrase really epitomizes my feelings about motorcycling and adventures. I try to convert every one of my riding buddies into the same mindset: do it while you're young and physically able... don't wait until your physical or mental faculties begin to fail you. It's better to actually LIVE those adventures and remember them later in life than to dream of them and regret not DOING them when you could have! Cheers! 👍 --QM

Loved the video! Forever two wheels ! Only suggestion is Frog Toggs i use them fishing in serious rain storms and stay dry so i love them top and pants combo.
Thanks for the feedback! We had a blast on this trip, and the scooters were great on the twisty mountain roads. Agreed on the Frog Toggs... those suits are great! I usually keep the lightweight yellow ones under my seat or in the top box for unexpected rain showers around town. They don't do well for extended rides or heavy thunderstorms because the material is very thin and the fit is somewhat baggy. They flap in the wind too muc, so they develop small tears in the material after about an hour at freeway speeds. Otherwise, the Frog Toggs are great around camp! I wear a baseball cap to shield my eyes and cinch the hooded top around the hat... it's my personal dry porch in the rain! 😉👍 --QM

I like looking at the scenery and I realize that showing it is part of “telling the story,” however I am much more interested in hearing your narration and your thoughts as opposed to primarily scenic views. In saying all of that I must admit that I have a healthy addiction to watching motovlogs. Since I watch so many, I find that I am more interested in hearing what someone has to say while they are riding down a country road as opposed to just watching them ride down that same road.

That's kinda what I've been able to discern from the CZcams analytics and watch metrics on the videos... people don't tend to stick around through the long, boring bits. Some viewers have mentioned that they particularly like (want) to watch the long stretches of road without music or commentary. I guess it's a catharsis for some riders, especially if they can't ride due to health or environmental reasons. I've considered creating another playlist (or maybe a separate channel) for the long videos... essentially raw footage with minimal editing and no time-compression. That way both camps of viewers could get watch their preferred format. Hmm... decisions, decisions.... 😉👍 --QM
I know you had two Bergman‘s in the past. What did you like or dislike about them? I bought a 2013 650 this summer and put 7000 miles already. Only thing I don’t like is the seat sucks, suspension is soft and the center stand scrapes if I really lean Riding two up. Other than that I love it. Passing harleys on the highway is always fun and I love the dirty looks 🤣
I had a 2003 Burgman 650 that had lots of transmission/CVT problems, and a 2007 model that had electrical issues. The newer ones after 2008 are reportedly much more reliable. I picked up a 2004 Honda SilverWing 600 and I was a lot happier with its overall fit and function. All of those maxi-scoots are very softly-sprung and tend to wallow around in corners too much, so I upgraded the Silverwing's front forks with HyperPro springs and heavier 15W fork oil. I usually run the rear shocks on the stiffer settings (#3-4 out of 5 positions). That really transformed the steering feel and front end tracking on my bike... although it still wallows too much and feels like it has a loose hinge in the middle of the frame. It's great out on the open highway, though... La-Z-Boy recliner comfort and able to crush highway miles at 90+ MPH all day long. 👍 --QM

I figured I would give this some road miles before I answered. I have made this ride several times now. Sometimes I will get on HWY 7 from the east near Hot Springs Village other times I'll take the 60 south directly to Nimrod. My expectations of the Trail 125 were very low. Basically for stuff at my ranch and riding the truck trails through these beautiful mountains. But, after watching your videos I've been motivated to put the bike to work and explore the 2 lane paved roads, pick up my provisions from all of the towns around me and do all the things I used to do on my bigger bikes when I was younger! I have had zero problems riding these mountain roads. Sometimes I drop down to 3rd gear, I'm never too hard on my little gal. No one gets mad because I'm a little slow. I just ENJOY! This has been a life changing experience for me. I am disabled so, BABY STEPS. Thanks again for all of your content. I had a college Professor who once told me, "If I've inspired one student to be a happy and a better person,, I've done my job". So, HUZZA my friend. I think you've helped many people! Rev.
@ 15:39 you commented on the cooking that smelled good. That was El Tortillaria Moreles. It is a Mexican grocery store that also is a tortilla bakery. If you come by on weekends they are grilling chickens in the parking lot. Go inside and buy a chicken dinner and some fresh, hot tortillas. Best bbq chicken in the world. No sauce or crap like that. Just a chicken cooked by a Mexican lady over a wood fire. By the way, that town is Dardanelle. If you are a fan of True Grit, Mattie Ross says she is from near Dardanelle in Yell County. That’s the town! Some of the best riding in America is in the NW corner of the state from Dover (15 miles north of Dardanelle). We would spend all day just traveling back and forth zig zagging up to Fayetteville Harrison, Mountain View, and all over. Great riding!!!

Yessir... that spot is definitely saved in my favorites. I researched it a bit more and it appears that it was abandoned several years ago after a flood. The Army Corps maintains the dam and the lake, but all of that camping area is lost in limbo. It's perfect for a remote getaway. 👍 --QM

There are a few occasions where I look down at the speedometer, and the gear position is visible there for those few seconds. 👍 --QM

Great video! All your videos are great. How do you feel about tank capacity? 3.7 liters is small? I remember an old Aprilia that I had, also with a small tank, I couldn't put 10 euros of petrol in it and refueling was a mess (and frequent). However, it should be considered that Super Cub's consumption is exceptional. P.S. I was hoping Honda would put a rev counter! (and a usb on the last model, but you can survive whitout). Rev counter imho is something interesting to have on your bike.
Thanks for the feedback! Yes, the Super Cub's tank is annoyingly small at only 1.0 US gallon, so it does require frequent refueling. Despite the small tank capacity, my buddy, Adrian, and I still rode our Cubs nearly 10K miles around the USA in July 2021 for the Scooter Cannonball Run. We stopped every 85-95 miles to refuel these little mules every ~2 hours, and rode 12+ hours/day for over 3 weeks straight... that's a LOT of roadside pit stops! 🤣👍 --QM
At 18:52 about 200 feet in front of you on the left past the gas station is a small chain link fenced area (10x10). Inside it is a huge kettle. Sequoya, the Cherokee Indian that invented the Cherokee alphabet used to live north of the town of Dover, where you are. During the Indian Removal the government wanted to move him peacefully because he was well respected by the other Cherokee. They thought if they moved him peacefully the others would follow him. Sequoyah made his living by making salt. He did it in a big kettle. He told the government he would agree to move but they had to give him a new salt kettle. They agreed and he left his old kettle at his old home, off in the woods. Years later it was found and brought down to Dover and put in the town square.
Wonderful bits of history that I would have never known. I often see those "historical marker" signs on the sides of the road that are just pointing to random places (sometimes in someone's front yard). The back story for many of them is fascinating if you can find the information. Cheers! 👍 --QM

I don't know if we'll be up there for the full week or not, but we'll try for a few days of the event. I try to roll those into extended weekends if possible so I can avoid too much lost work. We'll be up there in AR and MO on little Honda PCX150 scooters, so I'm not sure how well we'd fit in with the H-D and cruiser crowd. If I can break away again the following week, then I might head back up there on Sep 22-25 on my Rebel 1100. I have considered getting a Kymco or Sym a few times, but just haven't pulled the trigger because of the sparse dealer and parts networks in the USA. Nothing beats doing long distances on small bikes, I've owned CBR1000's and XS1100's, I've ridden right across Europe on them, but I had more fun doing it on 125's back in the day.

We added AirHawk Cruiser (large) pads to our Cubs' seats for our longer rides. We rode these little 125cc beasts nearly 10K miles around the USA in July for the Scooter Cannonball Run, and they performed perfectly! Our butts were definitely worn out after several 500-mile, 14-hour days in a row, but we fared OK. I'm still editing that series (24 days of riding), and I'll be posting it to my channel soon. 2nd, I’m sure this has been mentioned or asked before but what do you use to recharge camera gear while on a trip like this. I assume a power bank to recharge overnight but do you recharge the power bank via the bike throughout the day??
I typically have a 2-port waterproof 12V USB charger on my bikes ( amzn.to/3lq40aX ) that I use to power/charge my batteries while riding. In the Super Cub's case, I have a SAE battery tender cable connected to the battery that I can also use to connect this USB charger. I charge the camera batteries with the GoPro dual charger ( amzn.to/3lqjYS4 ) while on the bike or via a USB power bank ( amzn.to/36p8H0b ) at night or when I'm away from the bike. If I'm off the bike for extended periods moto-camping or boondocking, then I'll use solar panels to charge batteries. I've had good luck with the Goal Zero Nomad Plus panels (10W panel amzn.to/39psVJg , or 20W panel amzn.to/3mw5DoU ). I have the Nomad 7 Plus, 14 Plus, and 28 Plus... but those have been discontinued in favor of the new 10/20W models. Cheers! 👍 --QM

@@DirtRider22a Yep, that is definitely a risk/concern. On most of my bikes, I have the USB charger connected to a switched 12V line instead of directly to the battery. The battery tender lead that I have on the Super Cub and also my XT250 is readily-accessible, so I just disconnect the charger when I'm not using it. The XT250's charger is located in my SW-Motech EnduroLT tank bag, and the outside of the bag has a socket for the tender lead... quick to detach when it's not in use. 👍 --QM
Hi I am following Your Trip and it is Great. The Roads You have in the U.S.A. where You can Ride are Far Longer and better Qaulity than our roads You can ride on a 125cc on here in the U.K. They are called 'A' Roads which take You through all the Villages,Towns and Cities from A to B so very stop start on a Bike. I have Three Bikes a "Kymco 125" which is My all weather run around (because of the salt on the Road during the Winter which eats the parts on Your Bike even if You cover it in "ACF 50 Anti corrosive spray) and it is Automatic. A "LML 125" which is based on a "Vesp" style Bike which is My Summer Run around and I have a" Suzuki 650 V Strom" which is My long distance rally Bike.The thought of going on a long distance a 125cc really interest Me so thankyou for for sharing Your Journey. Can You Buy those trailers or Did That Chap Make it himself ? I would like one for My "V Strom" because when I am two up and with Camp Kit and panniers it makes the Bike very Heavy.Regards from The City of Richard III. U.K.

Thanks for the feedback, and greetings from the USA! Neil fabricated his trailer for the Zuma 125, and the donor was a little Suzuki JR50 dirt bike. You can watch a brief video here that gives some info about it: czcams.com/video/N0nqSR4Q_tg/video.html . I have recently purchased a commercial single-wheel trailer from KipMoto called the SherpaX trailer ( kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax ). You might be able to import one into the UK, but I'm not sure about your road taxes and registration requirements there. Many states in the USA are very lenient about registration of home-built and small trailers. Many states don't require registration for trailers under a certain weight (350 pounds, if I remember correctly), and safety inspections aren't required for anything that isn't plated (registered). Neil hasn't had any legal problems with his trailer, and he pulls it everywhere throughout the southern USA... 35K miles and counting! Cheers! 👍 --QM

Texas is similar... if the trailer is under a certain weight, then it's exempt from registration fees. We haven't had any problems yet when crossing into other states, so we'll hope for the best. @@woso3125 I don't have exact weight figures for his trailer, but I did pick it up when he detached it from the scooter. I estimate that it weighed around 35 pounds "dry" (16kg). His plastic tote that fits into the trailer's cradle is usually loaded up with another 30 pounds of gear, so the total trailer weight is around 65 pounds (30kg). His trailer is a HUGE convenience factor for long-distance travel and moto-camping. When we arrive at camp, he just unstraps the box and carries it over to the campsite to begin setup... camp is usually deployed within 10-15 minutes at most. Tearing down and repacking camp is a similar affair... about 15 minutes, and then the box is carried back to the trailer and strapped down again. The trailer also doubles as a carry-all for when we shop for food or gather firewood for camp (see here: czcams.com/video/jk0E51XPD34/video.html ). Because I'm no master fabricator like Neil, I purchased the SherpaX trailer from KipMoto that is a similar design: kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax . I already have the front "hoop" mounts for my Honda CB500X and Yamaha XT250. I will be sending dimensions to KipMoto to fabricate the mount for the CT125 (and maybe the Super Cub) very soon. The full trailer kit with one bike-specific mount is $1085 USD, and each additional mount is ~$300 USD. I plan to pull the SherpaX trailer behind the CT125 when I ride the TransAmerica trail and other moto-camping trips in the near future. Cheers! 👍 --QM

I love the on screen display you have. Im thinking of getting a Super Cub, though my work mates might laugh at me as they have allot of adventure bikes and large engine race bikes :( Do you have a place you get all the accessories from, like the windshield and seat racks etc?
🤣 LOL... I get that same sentiment from a lot of USA riders. "Why such a small bike?", or "You must be crazy!", or "Get a real bike!". The laughs are on them... they don't know what they're missing! I own 21 bikes at the moment (over 100 in my riding career), and they range in size from 50cc to 1100cc, from scooters to hyper sports and everything in between. I find that the smaller bikes are immensely more fun to ride if I can make the excuse to take them for any particular trip. Certain highway trips or faster journeys won't permit the small bikes sometimes, so the bigger bikes will win the coin toss. As for Super Cub accessories and upgrades, my usual go-to source is Webike in Japan ( japan.webike.net). The accessory market for the mini-moto bikes isn't very strong here in the States, so we're forced to shop the Asian markets instead. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Sì hai ragione! Abbiamo guidato da Houston, in Texas, all'Arkansas e poi fino al Missouri. Ho pescato molte volte in Oklahoma e Arkansas, ma i nostri campeggi per questo viaggio non erano molto vicini a laghi o fiumi. I live just north of Tightwad mo. Truman lake area. A few weeks ago ..I put down a deposit on a 125 trail. Was so torn on which one to get. I really wanted the cub.. but ? I think the trail will fit better. And it has the Kickstarter and a regular key. I'm 6'2" 32 inseam and 268# I'm not going to break any speed record's .ha! Wonder why Honda didn't do the hi/lo transmission?
You have some great roads and trails to explore up there, so the CT125 was a good choice. You might consider reducing the front sprocket to a 13T to give a bit more oomph for climbing hills. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Yes, we have cruise controls (throttle locks) on both bikes! The GoCruise throttle lock ( amzn.to/2VUkEsb ) just clips over the handgrip and stops against the front brake lever. Howdy, Jack! We try to stick to the back roads and rural highways where the pace is less frantic. We do occasionally encounter impatient cagers that NEED to drive 85+ MPH, so we just ride on the shoulder to allow them to pass. Generally speaking, 99% of the people we encounter are civilized and most drivers will give us a thumbs-up as they pass. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
I usually get ~45 minutes of recording time out of my GoPro Hero 7 Black in 1080p60, and ~30 minutes at 4K60. The clips are automatically cut down into shorter segments, and those are run through the GoPro Quik software to enable the speed and GPS overlays. I take those clips into Adobe Premiere Pro for the rest of the editing and stitching chores. We typically use Google Maps for most of the off-highway routing by selecting the "avoid highways" and "avoid toll roads" options... the result is mostly back roads and highways. I also use Garmin's "adventurous routing" option on my GPS units to find twisty routes. Cheers! 👍 --QM

He started that project using a salvaged Suzuki JR50 dirt bike as the donor, and then he fabricated all of the mounts and custom pieces. The 'no camping' was probably enforced due to some campers leaving all of their trash at camp sites. It’s happened to a lake that’s near me. Sad that some people cannot act like adults.
Probably true... it's unfortunate that more people can't practice the "leave no trace" discipline of camping. This particular camp ground was apparently shut down (nearly abandoned) after a flood several years ago. Most of the campsites have been demolished and there are remnants of concrete slabs and tables everywhere. I'm not sure if the Army Corps has any intention of rejuvenating the site or not. We had a good stealth camp there... I'd definitely visit that spot again. 👍 --QM
Howdy, Gabriel, and thanks for the feedback! The telemetry for the HUD is recorded by my GoPro camera, and the speed & telemetry overlays in these older videos was a feature of GoPro's Quik software, but it was cumbersome and not reliable (constantly crashed or corrupted footage, and it only worked with 1080P video... not 4K). I recently switched over to a third-party program called Telemetry Extractor: goprotelemetryextractor.com/ . It is much more powerful and it allows for customized layouts and combining multiple telemetry files. I can combine my GoPro files with GPX files from my Garmin Zumo GPS (when I'm riding with it), and Telemetry Extractor combines the data to generate the gauge overlays. Everything is stitched together in Adobe Premiere Pro to create the final videos. It's a lot of extra work, but the final results are worth the effort. When your going uphill at only 30 miles an hour how can cars pass when most of the road is no passing. Seems like a long stretch for cars to follow behind you.
That situation can happen occasionally, but most of these rural mountain roads have low speed limits and even lower cautionary limits near the sharp corners. When our speeds are causing a large queue of traffic behind us, then we drive on the shoulder to allow traffic to pass... or we'll find a siding or intersection to stop and let everyone pass. It's not uncommon to find bicyclists and farm tractors on some of these roads, too. So, traffic needs to be wary of those situations and ready to drive slow at times (hopefully!). Cheers! 👍 --QM

That's a one-of-a-kind custom trailer. Neil fabricated that using a Suzuki JR50 dirt bike as the donor, but all of the brackets and other bits are hacked & welded by hand. He has done some further modifications to the trailer since that video was made last year, but it's still mostly the same animal... just better (beefier) down-pipes and welds around the stress points. Agreed! The little Asahi Short Visor that I have does help to improve aerodynamics just a little bit... it breaks up my silhouette in the wind. Adrian's PUIG T.X. screen is a barn door, so it probably reduces efficiency. However, we have always noted that my Cub is more efficient than his (even before his windscreen), and it's probably due to my 15T front sprocket upgrade. I noticed a 10% bump in economy after installing that sprocket. The "longer" gear ratios and lower engine RPM's contribute to the overall gains, I'm sure. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Yes, that was unfortunate toward the end of the video. I only saw how blurry the camera lens was later during the video editing. My primary concern was trying to see the road through a helmet visor that looked MUCH WORSE than the camera's lens. Two hands on the bars and focus, focus, focus! 😉👍 --QM
Agreed! I just opened an "incognito" tab and watched a few of my recent videos. It appears that YT is seriously abusing the "mid-roll" ads ... this video had 9 mid-rolls that were automatically generated. I just scrubbed through my entire video catalog and killed the mid-rolls or deleted the frivolous ones. I have a YT Premium subscription, so I don't see those ads, and I never took a close look at what YT was stuffing in there... YIKES! 👍 --QM
@@1112dejon When I publish a video, the default monetization options are already enabled. I can go into each video's settings and disable particular types of ads (e.g. skippable vs non-skippable, pre-roll, mid-roll, etc), or I turn off ads/monetization completely. The default settings have pre-roll and mid-roll ads, but YT decided to get greedy with all of the mid-roll ads. I only earn a few dollars on each video (pennies at a time), so I'm not sure where all of that revenue is going... certainly not to me. So, thanks to your notice, I went through all of the videos and disabled the mid-roll ads or reduced them down to only 1-2 per video. Another unfortunate issue is that video creators don't have any control of what types of ads that CZcams decides to stuff into our videos... they could be showing toilet paper commercials for all I know. 😉 The only way CZcams viewers can skip the ads completely is to subscribe to CZcams Premium (formerly YouYube Red) for around $15/month. The premium subscription automatically skips the ads for you and then sends a small portion of your subscription fees to the video creator. I am also working toward publishing my videos through my Patreon.com account (videos hosted on Vimeo). That will allow subscribers (patrons) to donate a few dollars directly to me (instead of feeding random CZcams advertisers) and they can watch my videos ad-free. Cheers! 👍 --QM

The adventure is so much bigger and more rewarding when you tackle it with a small machine. Anyone can cross the country on a big touring rig... a giant, motorized La-Z-Boy recliner hurtling down the highway at breakneck speeds... never slowing down enough to absorb the scenery that it's passing through. You can experience more of the scenery on a slower, smaller bike, so the ride becomes the journey instead of just rushing to reach the destination. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Great video brother - thank you! It's so refreshing to see someone not wringing the hell out of the engine, and just enjoying the ride! So many people want to race ahead at top speed, but hey man, isn't it great to just chill and just enjoy the journey? I have a few motorcycles and have enjoyed many varied trips. The one's that I really enjoy nowadays are the slower rides, on my smallest bike (a Honda XL200), where one has to plan the trip on back roads and dirt, and stay off the highways. Thanks for the feedback, Jim! I'm a generation younger than you (just turned 50), but I still grew up when kids knew what real freedom (and responsibility) meant. I grew up in rural Oklahoma back in the 70's, and we had lots of fields, dirt roads, ponds, and other places to explore. Our parents let us roam free and they trusted us to keep out of major trouble. I started riding trail bikes at 6 years old, and I was out adventure riding and moto-camping with my friends before I was even into my teens. That adventurous freedom infected my psyche at an early age, and I can't imagine not knowing or having those experiences. Like you said... I don't plan to "grow up" anytime soon.
I heard a slogan on another CZcams channel ( @BikerBitsAUS , czcams.com/users/BikerBitsAUS ) several years ago: "Adventure before dementia". I hadn't distilled my thoughts in quite those terms, but that phrase really epitomizes my feelings about motorcycling and adventures. I try to convert every one of my riding buddies into the same mindset: do it while you're young and physically able... don't wait until your physical or mental faculties begin to fail you. It's better to actually LIVE those adventures and remember them later in life than to dream of them and regret not DOING them when you could have! Cheers! 👍 --QM

Loved the video! Forever two wheels ! Only suggestion is Frog Toggs i use them fishing in serious rain storms and stay dry so i love them top and pants combo.

Agreed on the Frog Toggs... those suits are great! I usually keep the lightweight yellow ones under my seat or in the top box for unexpected rain showers around town. They don't do well for extended rides or heavy thunderstorms because the material is very thin and the fit is somewhat baggy. They flap in the wind too muc, so they develop small tears in the material after about an hour at freeway speeds.
Otherwise, the Frog Toggs are great around camp! I wear a baseball cap to shield my eyes and cinch the hooded top around the hat... it's my personal dry porch in the rain! 😉👍 --QM

I like looking at the scenery and I realize that showing it is part of “telling the story,” however I am much more interested in hearing your narration and your thoughts as opposed to primarily scenic views. In saying all of that I must admit that I have a healthy addiction to watching motovlogs. Since I watch so many, I find that I am more interested in hearing what someone has to say while they are riding down a country road as opposed to just watching them ride down that same road.

That's kinda what I've been able to discern from the CZcams analytics and watch metrics on the videos... people don't tend to stick around through the long, boring bits. Some viewers have mentioned that they particularly like (want) to watch the long stretches of road without music or commentary. I guess it's a catharsis for some riders, especially if they can't ride due to health or environmental reasons. I've considered creating another playlist (or maybe a separate channel) for the long videos... essentially raw footage with minimal editing and no time-compression. That way both camps of viewers could get watch their preferred format. Hmm... decisions, decisions.... 😉👍 --QM

I know you had two Bergman‘s in the past. What did you like or dislike about them? I bought a 2013 650 this summer and put 7000 miles already. Only thing I don’t like is the seat sucks, suspension is soft and the center stand scrapes if I really lean Riding two up. Other than that I love it. Passing harleys on the highway is always fun and I love the dirty looks 🤣
I had a 2003 Burgman 650 that had lots of transmission/CVT problems, and a 2007 model that had electrical issues. The newer ones after 2008 are reportedly much more reliable. I picked up a 2004 Honda SilverWing 600 and I was a lot happier with its overall fit and function. All of those maxi-scoots are very softly-sprung and tend to wallow around in corners too much, so I upgraded the Silverwing's front forks with HyperPro springs and heavier 15W fork oil. I usually run the rear shocks on the stiffer settings (#3-4 out of 5 positions). That really transformed the steering feel and front end tracking on my bike... although it still wallows too much and feels like it has a loose hinge in the middle of the frame. It's great out on the open highway, though... La-Z-Boy recliner comfort and able to crush highway miles at 90+ MPH all day long. 👍 --QM

I figured I would give this some road miles before I answered. I have made this ride several times now. Sometimes I will get on HWY 7 from the east near Hot Springs Village other times I'll take the 60 south directly to Nimrod. My expectations of the Trail 125 were very low. Basically for stuff at my ranch and riding the truck trails through these beautiful mountains. But, after watching your videos I've been motivated to put the bike to work and explore the 2 lane paved roads, pick up my provisions from all of the towns around me and do all the things I used to do on my bigger bikes when I was younger! I have had zero problems riding these mountain roads. Sometimes I drop down to 3rd gear, I'm never too hard on my little gal. No one gets mad because I'm a little slow. I just ENJOY! This has been a life changing experience for me. I am disabled so, BABY STEPS. Thanks again for all of your content. @ 15:39 you commented on the cooking that smelled good. That was El Tortillaria Moreles. It is a Mexican grocery store that also is a tortilla bakery. If you come by on weekends they are grilling chickens in the parking lot. Go inside and buy a chicken dinner and some fresh, hot tortillas. Best bbq chicken in the world. No sauce or crap like that. Just a chicken cooked by a Mexican lady over a wood fire.
By the way, that town is Dardanelle. If you are a fan of True Grit, Mattie Ross says she is from near Dardanelle in Yell County. That’s the town! Some of the best riding in America is in the NW corner of the state from Dover (15 miles north of Dardanelle). We would spend all day just traveling back and forth zig zagging up to Fayetteville Harrison, Mountain View, and all over. Great riding!!!

Great video! All your videos are great. How do you feel about tank capacity? 3.7 liters is small? I remember an old Aprilia that I had, also with a small tank, I couldn't put 10 euros of petrol in it and refueling was a mess (and frequent). However, it should be considered that Super Cub's consumption is exceptional.
P.S. I was hoping Honda would put a rev counter! (and a usb on the last model, but you can survive whitout). Rev counter imho is something interesting to have on your bike.
Thanks for the feedback! Yes, the Super Cub's tank is annoyingly small at only 1.0 US gallon, so it does require frequent refueling. Despite the small tank capacity, my buddy, Adrian, and I still rode our Cubs nearly 10K miles around the USA in July 2021 for the Scooter Cannonball Run. We stopped every 85-95 miles to refuel these little mules every ~2 hours, and rode 12+ hours/day for over 3 weeks straight... that's a LOT of roadside pit stops! 🤣👍 --QM

At 18:52 about 200 feet in front of you on the left past the gas station is a small chain link fenced area (10x10). Inside it is a huge kettle. Sequoya, the Cherokee Indian that invented the Cherokee alphabet used to live north of the town of Dover, where you are. During the Indian Removal the government wanted to move him peacefully because he was well respected by the other Cherokee. They thought if they moved him peacefully the others would follow him.
Sequoyah made his living by making salt. He did it in a big kettle. He told the government he would agree to move but they had to give him a new salt kettle. They agreed and he left his old kettle at his old home, off in the woods. Years later it was found and brought down to Dover and put in the town square.
Wonderful bits of history that I would have never known. I often see those "historical marker" signs on the sides of the road that are just pointing to random places (sometimes in someone's front yard). The back story for many of them is fascinating if you can find the information. Cheers! 👍 --QM

If I can break away again the following week, then I might head back up there on Sep 22-25 on my Rebel 1100. I have considered getting a Kymco or Sym a few times, but just haven't pulled the trigger because of the sparse dealer and parts networks in the USA. Nothing beats doing long distances on small bikes, I've owned CBR1000's and XS1100's, I've ridden right across Europe on them, but I had more fun doing it on 125's back in the day.

We added AirHawk Cruiser (large) pads to our Cubs' seats for our longer rides. We rode these little 125cc beasts nearly 10K miles around the USA in July for the Scooter Cannonball Run, and they performed perfectly! Our butts were definitely worn out after several 500-mile, 14-hour days in a row, but we fared OK.

2nd, I’m sure this has been mentioned or asked before but what do you use to recharge camera gear while on a trip like this. I assume a power bank to recharge overnight but do you recharge the power bank via the bike throughout the day??
I typically have a 2-port waterproof 12V USB charger on my bikes ( amzn.to/3lq40aX ) that I use to power/charge my batteries while riding. In the Super Cub's case, I have a SAE battery tender cable connected to the battery that I can also use to connect this USB charger. I charge the camera batteries with the GoPro dual charger ( amzn.to/3lqjYS4 ) while on the bike or via a USB power bank ( amzn.to/36p8H0b ) at night or when I'm away from the bike. If I'm off the bike for extended periods moto-camping or boondocking, then I'll use solar panels to charge batteries. I've had good luck with the Goal Zero Nomad Plus panels (10W panel amzn.to/39psVJg , or 20W panel amzn.to/3mw5DoU ). I have the Nomad 7 Plus, 14 Plus, and 28 Plus... but those have been discontinued in favor of the new 10/20W models. Cheers! 👍 --QM

@@DirtRider22a Yep, that is definitely a risk/concern. On most of my bikes, I have the USB charger connected to a switched 12V line instead of directly to the battery. The battery tender lead that I have on the Super Cub and also my XT250 is readily-accessible, so I just disconnect the charger when I'm not using it. The XT250's charger is located in my SW-Motech EnduroLT tank bag, and the outside of the bag has a socket for the tender lead... quick to detach when it's not in use. 👍 --QM

The Roads You have in the U.S.A. where You can Ride are Far Longer and better Qaulity than our roads You can ride on a 125cc on here in the U.K. They are called 'A' Roads which take You through all the Villages,Towns and Cities from A to B so very stop start on a Bike. I have Three Bikes a "Kymco 125" which is My all weather run around (because of the salt on the Road during the Winter which eats the parts on Your Bike even if You cover it in "ACF 50 Anti corrosive spray) and it is Automatic. A "LML 125" which is based on a "Vesp" style Bike which is My Summer Run around and I have a" Suzuki 650 V Strom" which is My long distance rally Bike.The thought of going on a long distance a 125cc really interest Me so thankyou for for sharing Your Journey.

I have recently purchased a commercial single-wheel trailer from KipMoto called the SherpaX trailer ( kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax ). You might be able to import one into the UK, but I'm not sure about your road taxes and registration requirements there. Many states in the USA are very lenient about registration of home-built and small trailers. Many states don't require registration for trailers under a certain weight (350 pounds, if I remember correctly), and safety inspections aren't required for anything that isn't plated (registered). Neil hasn't had any legal problems with his trailer, and he pulls it everywhere throughout the southern USA... 35K miles and counting! Cheers! 👍 --QM

Thanks for the feedback! Neil lives in Alabama, and he said that small home-built trailers don't need registration there. Texas is similar... if the trailer is under a certain weight, then it's exempt from registration fees. We haven't had any problems yet when crossing into other states, so we'll hope for the best. @@woso3125 I don't have exact weight figures for his trailer, but I did pick it up when he detached it from the scooter. I estimate that it weighed around 35 pounds "dry" (16kg). His plastic tote that fits into the trailer's cradle is usually loaded up with another 30 pounds of gear, so the total trailer weight is around 65 pounds (30kg). His trailer is a HUGE convenience factor for long-distance travel and moto-camping. When we arrive at camp, he just unstraps the box and carries it over to the campsite to begin setup... camp is usually deployed within 10-15 minutes at most. Tearing down and repacking camp is a similar affair... about 15 minutes, and then the box is carried back to the trailer and strapped down again. The trailer also doubles as a carry-all for when we shop for food or gather firewood for camp (see here: czcams.com/video/jk0E51XPD34/video.html ).
Because I'm no master fabricator like Neil, I purchased the SherpaX trailer from KipMoto that is a similar design: kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax . I already have the front "hoop" mounts for my Honda CB500X and Yamaha XT250. I will be sending dimensions to KipMoto to fabricate the mount for the CT125 (and maybe the Super Cub) very soon. The full trailer kit with one bike-specific mount is $1085 USD, and each additional mount is ~$300 USD. I plan to pull the SherpaX trailer behind the CT125 when I ride the TransAmerica trail and other moto-camping trips in the near future. Cheers! 👍 --QM

I love the on screen display you have. Im thinking of getting a Super Cub, though my work mates might laugh at me as they have allot of adventure bikes and large engine race bikes :( Do you have a place you get all the accessories from, like the windshield and seat racks etc?
🤣 LOL... I get that same sentiment from a lot of USA riders. "Why such a small bike?", or "You must be crazy!", or "Get a real bike!". The laughs are on them... they don't know what they're missing! I own 21 bikes at the moment (over 100 in my riding career), and they range in size from 50cc to 1100cc, from scooters to hyper sports and everything in between. I find that the smaller bikes are immensely more fun to ride if I can make the excuse to take them for any particular trip. Certain highway trips or faster journeys won't permit the small bikes sometimes, so the bigger bikes will win the coin toss.
As for Super Cub accessories and upgrades, my usual go-to source is Webike in Japan ( japan.webike.net). The accessory market for the mini-moto bikes isn't very strong here in the States, so we're forced to shop the Asian markets instead. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Sì hai ragione! Abbiamo guidato da Houston, in Texas, all'Arkansas e poi fino al Missouri. Ho pescato molte volte in Oklahoma e Arkansas, ma i nostri campeggi per questo viaggio non erano molto vicini a laghi o fiumi. Questo viaggio era vicino alla fine dell'estate, quindi il clima era moderato con temperature intorno ai 15 gradi centigradi di notte e 24 gradi durante il giorno. Yes, we have cruise controls (throttle locks) on both bikes! The GoCruise throttle lock ( amzn.to/2VUkEsb ) just clips over the handgrip and stops against the front brake lever. Howdy, Jack! We try to stick to the back roads and rural highways where the pace is less frantic. We do occasionally encounter impatient cagers that NEED to drive 85+ MPH, so we just ride on the shoulder to allow them to pass. Generally speaking, 99% of the people we encounter are civilized and most drivers will give us a thumbs-up as they pass. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

How do you get the go pro to record so long and how do u get the overlay? And for the maps what do u use for non highway routes?
I usually get ~45 minutes of recording time out of my GoPro Hero 7 Black in 1080p60, and ~30 minutes at 4K60. The clips are automatically cut down into shorter segments, and those are run through the GoPro Quik software to enable the speed and GPS overlays. I take those clips into Adobe Premiere Pro for the rest of the editing and stitching chores.
We typically use Google Maps for most of the off-highway routing by selecting the "avoid highways" and "avoid toll roads" options... the result is mostly back roads and highways. I also use Garmin's "adventurous routing" option on my GPS units to find twisty routes. Cheers! 👍 --QM

That is a custom-built scooter that Neil fabricated for his Zuma. He started that project using a salvaged Suzuki JR50 dirt bike as the donor, and then he fabricated all of the mounts and custom pieces. The 'no camping' was probably enforced due to some campers leaving all of their trash at camp sites. It’s happened to a lake that’s near me. Sad that some people cannot act like adults.
Probably true... it's unfortunate that more people can't practice the "leave no trace" discipline of camping. This particular camp ground was apparently shut down (nearly abandoned) after a flood several years ago. Most of the campsites have been demolished and there are remnants of concrete slabs and tables everywhere. I'm not sure if the Army Corps has any intention of rejuvenating the site or not. We had a good stealth camp there... I'd definitely visit that spot again. 👍 --QM

Howdy, Gabriel, and thanks for the feedback! The telemetry for the HUD is recorded by my GoPro camera, and the speed & telemetry overlays in these older videos was a feature of GoPro's Quik software, but it was cumbersome and not reliable (constantly crashed or corrupted footage, and it only worked with 1080P video... not 4K).
I recently switched over to a third-party program called Telemetry Extractor: goprotelemetryextractor.com/ . It is much more powerful and it allows for customized layouts and combining multiple telemetry files. I can combine my GoPro files with GPX files from my Garmin Zumo GPS (when I'm riding with it), and Telemetry Extractor combines the data to generate the gauge overlays. Everything is stitched together in Adobe Premiere Pro to create the final videos.

When your going uphill at only 30 miles an hour how can cars pass when most of the road is no passing. Seems like a long stretch for cars to follow behind you.
That situation can happen occasionally, but most of these rural mountain roads have low speed limits and even lower cautionary limits near the sharp corners. When our speeds are causing a large queue of traffic behind us, then we drive on the shoulder to allow traffic to pass... or we'll find a siding or intersection to stop and let everyone pass. It's not uncommon to find bicyclists and farm tractors on some of these roads, too. So, traffic needs to be wary of those situations and ready to drive slow at times (hopefully!). Cheers! 👍 --QM

That's a one-of-a-kind custom trailer. Neil fabricated that using a Suzuki JR50 dirt bike as the donor, but all of the brackets and other bits are hacked & welded by hand. He has done some further modifications to the trailer since that video was made last year, but it's still mostly the same animal... just better (beefier) down-pipes and welds around the stress points. Agreed! The little Asahi Short Visor that I have does help to improve aerodynamics just a little bit... it breaks up my silhouette in the wind. Adrian's PUIG T.X. screen is a barn door, so it probably reduces efficiency.
However, we have always noted that my Cub is more efficient than his (even before his windscreen), and it's probably due to my 15T front sprocket upgrade. I noticed a 10% bump in economy after installing that sprocket. The "longer" gear ratios and lower engine RPM's contribute to the overall gains, I'm sure. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Yes, that was unfortunate toward the end of the video. I only saw how blurry the camera lens was later during the video editing. My primary concern was trying to see the road through a helmet visor that looked MUCH WORSE than the camera's lens. Two hands on the bars and focus, focus, focus! 😉👍 --QM

Agreed! I just opened an "incognito" tab and watched a few of my recent videos. It appears that YT is seriously abusing the "mid-roll" ads ... this video had 9 mid-rolls that were automatically generated. I just scrubbed through my entire video catalog and killed the mid-rolls or deleted the frivolous ones. I have a YT Premium subscription, so I don't see those ads, and I never took a close look at what YT was stuffing in there... YIKES! 👍 --QM

@@1112dejon When I publish a video, the default monetization options are already enabled. I can go into each video's settings and disable particular types of ads (e.g. skippable vs non-skippable, pre-roll, mid-roll, etc), or I turn off ads/monetization completely. The default settings have pre-roll and mid-roll ads, but YT decided to get greedy with all of the mid-roll ads. I only earn a few dollars on each video (pennies at a time), so I'm not sure where all of that revenue is going... certainly not to me. So, thanks to your notice, I went through all of the videos and disabled the mid-roll ads or reduced them down to only 1-2 per video. Another unfortunate issue is that video creators don't have any control of what types of ads that CZcams decides to stuff into our videos... they could be showing toilet paper commercials for all I know. 😉
The only way CZcams viewers can skip the ads completely is to subscribe to CZcams Premium (formerly YouYube Red) for around $15/month. The premium subscription automatically skips the ads for you and then sends a small portion of your subscription fees to the video creator. I am also working toward publishing my videos through my Patreon.com account (videos hosted on Vimeo). That will allow subscribers (patrons) to donate a few dollars directly to me (instead of feeding random CZcams advertisers) and they can watch my videos ad-free. Cheers! 👍 --QM
