Although what I'm currently doing is less a course and more like online advising, I really appreciated your presentation, start to finish. Hard for this once-theatre person to give up face-to-face instruction, but you made online understanding, appealing, and, above all, do-able. Thanks for being my water-wings!
Oh wow! I hear you on this and I'm so glad I could help. I honestly teach mostly online now in theatre/musical theatre and have found it so rewarding. It will never replace in person work but it can definitely offer accessibility and wonderful options for those that can't or not able or not comfortable with in person learning. A Facebook group pointed me in your direction when I posted an SOS for help getting started in Canvas. I spent an entire 6 hours of PD watching most of your videos, and it was an excellent use of my time. Seeing you use the tools as you explained them was helpful for a learner like me. @@VirtualTeachingPro - My classes this semester are in-person but I set up and use Canvas as a lesson planner, lecture aid, and a place for students to take quizzes and turn in essays. Last spring was my first full online class and your videos were a life saver. I used just what I could understand in the time I had to put the class together but it worked great. I'm preparing three in-person classes now on Canvas also to use in class and to anticipate having to another mid-term shut down. With your help I'm getting better every semester and will continue to develop my skills for fully online and to supplement my in-person classes. I've other tutorials but none as professional and rationally explained as yours. Thanks so much. I'll be seeing you on the little screen.

Canvas seems to be updating on a constant basis these day which is both exciting but also a little overwhelming because I feel like I'm teaching people a new feature or change every single week. Great video I understand it alittle better. Im in university in iceland where the teacher said we can use studio canva for project. in the project we are suppose to talk about our result from assesment tool and show pictures to explain better what we are talking about I can´t figure it out how to record speech and show pictures here and there in same record as a student.
Another good video. I do think the discussion about the syllabus may be overly complicated. I wanted to add a screen shot here to show what I do, but it doesn't look like I can. In short, rather than posting the text of the syllabus under "syllabus," I just post a link called "PDF of course syllabus" at the top of the syllabus screen (and link to the course file). Then all of the assignments, dates, etc., are listed below and easy to access. I also post the PDF of the syllabus in a module that I call "Syllabus and Other Useful Information."
Hi there. I understand what you mean here. I think including a PDF download is a great idea. What I like to do is offer the syllabus in multiple formats so that it is accessible to all students and the way that they best read, digest information. Some students may not be able to open a pdf doc on their device especially mobile devices. Another reason I type in the entire syllabus in the syllabus tab in Canvas is for students that are using the reader function for accessibility. I like to explain it like this: In a face to face course you would hand out the paper syllabus and then read and go over it on the first day of class. In an online course consider uploading the PDF and then explaining it by either including the full text in the section or recording an audio/video file to go over it with the student.
@@VirtualTeachingPro I see what you're saying here. I don't typically print out a copy of the syllabus even in F2F classes, but I can see that if I did, that might change the approach. Like you, I try to present information in multiple formats and provide different ways to link to it. You've reminded me that I need to keep the mobile app in mind - not just the desktop app. I like using the mobile app, but typically only use it for a quick check in. I'll need to ask students which they use more - the mobile or desktop app.
At Alamo Colleges in San Antonio, we complete a syllabus template in a program called CONCOURSE and it is automatically uploaded into syllabus. This is a great video and I sent it to my supervisor to help new adjuncts. It is easy to follow and Ashlee, you have a calm and soothing approach. I have seen grown men cry in CANVAS faculty meetings.

@@VirtualTeachingPro - My classes this semester are in-person but I set up and use Canvas as a lesson planner, lecture aid, and a place for students to take quizzes and turn in essays.
Last spring was my first full online class and your videos were a life saver. I used just what I could understand in the time I had to put the class together but it worked great. I'm preparing three in-person classes now on Canvas also to use in class and to anticipate having to another mid-term shut down.
With your help I'm getting better every semester and will continue to develop my skills for fully online and to supplement my in-person classes.
I've other tutorials but none as professional and rationally explained as yours. Thanks so much. I'll be seeing you on the little screen.

Canvas seems to be updating on a constant basis these day which is both exciting but also a little overwhelming because I feel like I'm teaching people a new feature or change every single week. Great video I understand it alittle better. Im in university in iceland where the teacher said we can use studio canva for project. in the project we are suppose to talk about our result from assesment tool and show pictures to explain better what we are talking about I can´t figure it out how to record speech and show pictures here and there in same record as a student.

Another good video. I do think the discussion about the syllabus may be overly complicated. I wanted to add a screen shot here to show what I do, but it doesn't look like I can. In short, rather than posting the text of the syllabus under "syllabus," I just post a link called "PDF of course syllabus" at the top of the syllabus screen (and link to the course file). Then all of the assignments, dates, etc., are listed below and easy to access. I also post the PDF of the syllabus in a module that I call "Syllabus and Other Useful Information."
Hi there. I understand what you mean here. I think including a PDF download is a great idea. What I like to do is offer the syllabus in multiple formats so that it is accessible to all students and the way that they best read, digest information. Some students may not be able to open a pdf doc on their device especially mobile devices. Another reason I type in the entire syllabus in the syllabus tab in Canvas is for students that are using the reader function for accessibility. I like to explain it like this: In a face to face course you would hand out the paper syllabus and then read and go over it on the first day of class. In an online course consider uploading the PDF and then explaining it by either including the full text in the section or recording an audio/video file to go over it with the student.
@@VirtualTeachingPro I see what you're saying here. I don't typically print out a copy of the syllabus even in F2F classes, but I can see that if I did, that might change the approach. Like you, I try to present information in multiple formats and provide different ways to link to it. You've reminded me that I need to keep the mobile app in mind - not just the desktop app. I like using the mobile app, but typically only use it for a quick check in. I'll need to ask students which they use more - the mobile or desktop app.
At Alamo Colleges in San Antonio, we complete a syllabus template in a program called CONCOURSE and it is automatically uploaded into syllabus.
This is a great video and I sent it to my supervisor to help new adjuncts. It is easy to follow and Ashlee, you have a calm and soothing approach. I have seen grown men cry in CANVAS faculty meetings.
