My godmother had a golden retriever that was born about a week after me. We grew up fully together and would always play together. They had to put him down last year since he couldn't walk anymore but i know hes happy and chasing squirrels where he belongs and I hope i can see him again one day. May you rest in peace, my first best friend, Buddy

Sounds like Bridget helped absorb the pain of a rough childhood. Our "Scruffy" (beautiful Cocker Spaniel) did that for me in the 80s near Clearwater, Florida. Actually, she was a kind of glue that gave the family a kind of anchoring or connectedness. She was an ambassador of love, and she added gaiety and levity to a tense environment. We even had a voice we would use which we pretended was she talking. Also, she had a strong negative reaction to humans only several times in her life, and one of those times was Scruffy interacting with a man who would later go on to attempt (unsuccessfully) to molest me. RIP Girl.

When I came home from university, our golden retriever burst into tears and collapsed at my feet. For the rest of my visit, he never left my side, and he cried for weeks when I left again.

Yep, had one for 13 years until he succumbed to liver cancer. He was a member of the family and it was hard when he passed. We now have a golden doodle. I just wish they lived longer.❤

She had so much personality and could melt the heart of anyone she met. After she died of heart failure, we gathered around her grave and said “If perfection incarnated itself in the form of a dog, her name would be Aspen”. Rest in peace you sweet dog 😔

Omg that golden that looked like he was at a dog show like he was sitting on top of a table with a green towel was the best golden I've ever seen. He literally had an actual smile that went all the way up to his doggy eyebrows and his tail was wagging. I wish the clip of him/her was longer cuz I could watch that all day.

@@DotDusk I know it’s sad to imagine losing them, but treasure every moment. Take as many pictures with them as possible. Be extra careful with them, and spend as much time as possible watching them. Don’t leave them alone in the heat for too long. Give them as much love as you possibly can and tell them how much they mean to you while you still have them ❤️ I’m sure they are sweet pups, goldens always are!

Something that made me feel better is to create a little area of the wall in my house/appartment that has a framed photo of my dog doing what they loved the most as well as an item of significance to them. Its cheasy but our dogs never truly die. Their spirits are always with us. They wouldnt want the memory of their love they gave us all those years to be shadowed by grief.
Another cheasy thing but I love to think all our dogs are waiting for us once we are gone to play with them and give them treats for all time 😂 sorry if this doesnt help and just sounds dumb

I had him for 13 years before he was killed.rest in heaven d.j. he changed my whole life as a kid.i don't know how my father knew what kind of dog to gift me.but he was it for me.he use to wait for us to pull up at the house.and would literally wait for everyone to get out of the car.then when i would get out on my side he use to run full speed towards me and put both paws on my shoulders and just lick my face continuously. 😂😂😂sometimes even knocking me off of my feet on the first pounce.i will always hug him and let him know i miss him.man..he was a dream come true🥰🥰😘😘😘

I got a golden sort of by accident. I got one at a dog pound not knowing much about the breed but man was I pleased. She quickly became my best friend and had a way of making me laugh out loud at least once a day. She was so loyal and sweet. She passed away from cancer after a long and happy life. I was really heart broken when she passed. Never will forget that dog. They really are great dogs
I lost my Golden boy exactly on his first birthday. He was the reason why I finished my studies while working at the same time, tho it’s really hard. He was my inspiration and motivation throughout the whole journey. I marched without him but no more pain for him at least. I even got hospitalized and diagnosed with depression after a month of losing him due to overwork. Now I am waiting to meet my adopted Golden girl next week when I get back to the city.

You couldn’t 100% trust it. One day my Nan had a friend round her house and kept telling her that the dog is not always friendly, so be careful. Unfortunately, her friend had ignored my Nan and she went to pet the golden retriever. It then ripped the whole of her bottom lip of with its teeth, sending her to hospital.

Where I live there used to be a lady who jogged thru the neighborhood, her golden would carry his own leash, I was watching him one time across the street because he dropped his leash and then started running after his mom, she told him to go back and get his leash and he did. I have had two goldens in my life, they are the goofiest dogs I have ever had, I still have one, my next dog will be a golden.

Golden Retrievers (as well as other breeds) make an exhausted Mother feel loved, and the stressed out father feel he is worth something besides a paycheck and the elder who is lonely because elders are usually forgotten. They give u that look like u r the most important hooman in the world, and in those moments u r. ❤❤

I got a Golden Retriever and I cannot tell you how perfect they are. The dog each person in the family differently. Each person taken care of appropriately. it's amazing he protects the kids wrestles and plays with me and watches end protects my wife like a hawk. All well defending the house and giving us all the love we can stand❤
Their undercoat, being collected and spun, makes warmest knitted things in the world! I do that.
My Grandma had one named Shandy. She was brilliant with patience of a Saint. I bet she is keeping my Grandma company in heaven

I once read that golden retrievers are so gentle that their stuffed toys remain in perfect condition for the duration of their lives. They carry them so gently in their mouths that they never get nicked. It’s one of the most heartwarming things I’ve ever heard.

Yes! My two goldens have a bunch of “stuffies” that they love and adore. They take them everywhere and then fall alseep holding on to them!
@@kelle881yep!! but they gotta be just the right ones. my golden had always been a real ripper when it came to toys and plushies but then we tried to give her the cheapest of cheap, some IKEA plushies and she LOVES them. she loves to bring them around with her and show them off and when she sleeps she rests her head so gently on top of them like they’re a pillow💜

A well bred golden with hunting lines usually instinctually will have a soft mouth. This is because they are gun dogs, meaning they will flush out bird and then when the hunter hits one they will go retrieve it but were bred specifically NOT to shred it or crush it while bringing it back. So a golden that will not crush or shred toys would actually make a great hunting dog and genetically has well bred hunters in its lines.

Nothing beats the love of a golden
Goldens are the clown prices and princess of the canine world. They bring a special light to thus world that no other pup can bring. They'll make you laugh until you pee, and they'll comfort you on your worst day. They make you be a better person just by their nature and bring a calm to your life in the worst if storms. They are defenders of the family and the love that binds that family. My last and final of four dogs I handle as a military K9 Handler was a Golden Retriever, her name was Saddie and she was search and rescue. I lost her about a year and a half before I retired after 20 years. I never handled another dog after her. She was my perfect dog. She was my saving grace. I can only hope to see her at least one more time after I pass on from this life.

This is what we thought after our first golden but starting again with a new pup quickly helped us to move on and let go, it's surely what she would have wanted.

They really are. I've always had small dogs, but I've always admired golden retrievers. They are so sweet and loyal and gentle and just make for incredible family pets. I don't think I have ever seen a golden retriever who wasn't a good boy/girl. If you have one or know one, give them a treat. They probably deserve it.
