Leveling Up A $10 Watch With Custom Leather Work - Leather Craft

Leveling up a cheap $10 department store watch! In this video I take a cheap $10 watch and give it a little leather makeover. I use some natural vegetable tanned leather to create a nice wide cuff. To add detail, I crease the edges and add a tooled border all around. I then apply dark brown dye via airbrush to the surface of the cuff, along with some dark chocolate dye along to edges to give it more of an antique look. The backside of the watch cuff is lined with super soft kip skin leather and is hand stitched all around. The watch face is secured to the band with nickel plated chicago screws and for the closure I use matching nickel snaps. I hope you enjoy the video and give this leather craft watch hack a shot.

This is why I got into leather work. Like watches was investigating bands and saw the prices. Thought to myself how hard could that be. Have not made one band but lots of bags and belts... great new hobby. Slightly unhappy wife.

What brand of pricking irons do you use? I have a set of those polished Diamond chisels but the largest one is only six prongs which leads to slow work.

I use 4mm KS Blade Punch diamond shape tooth irons.

I wouldn't call them pricking irons. That might make people new to leather working go buy pricking irons and find out that pricking irons are not made for punching holes in thicker leather.
