I was able to get it for $30 on PSN. Beat it last night. Definitely worth it for that amount. The game is gorgeous and it’s pretty spooky, a lot more than people give it credit for. Story and gameplay is kind of bland but if you’re into Japanese culture and supernatural stuff then you’ll like it. Side missions had me feeling like a spirit detective 😎

It’s so weird. You and I are both gamers. I have thousands of hours in my favorite titles. And yet it’s as if we’re into two separate hobbies that are only tangentially related.
I have never once in thousands upon thousands of hours even thought about achievements. What achaivements do I have in FO4 or FNV or 2077? Probably most of them but truly, idk.
On the other hand I could tell you my favorite weapons in all those games and how I like to mod them.
I just think it’s rad that one medium can give different people totally different experiences, and they could be playing the same game. It’s kinda crazy.

Finally got it through PS+ and am only a few hours in, but ak enjoying the experience. Great atmosphere and it looks great! Playing with the dualsense is I think a real game changer as the triggers reallyake a difference in adding to the immersion of the game. Lots of cool things the devs did with the controller that I think would make playing on PC less ideal.
If we had more enemy variety, mobility, and smoother controls I think a sequel could really stand out. Really hoping it gets a 2nd chance!

I haven't completed 100% but I did full story on easy, then played Hard mode unlocking all tanukis, magatamas, KK notes etc, so I hav eonly left to collect spirits and that would make a 100% which I'm going to skip to be honest, too boring, and the game feels very repetitive and has same problem other games with progression do have, which is you basically will unlock most skills by the end of the game, when you basically going to fight the last boss, making the skill tree almost useless for the rest of the gameplay.

I don't know how this game was at launch, but right now, I believe it's amazing. It's not perfect I wish the combat was just a little snappier and more precise, and some of the side missions go back to fetch quests (but they are still enjoyable) it's still a good system. The story is whatever. The atmosphere AGAIN though from these guys Tango Gameworks (The Evil Within 1 in particular) is second to none. I can see how this game wouldn't appeal to everyone, but for me this game ended up being an easy 9/10. This vision of a haunted Tokyo was done right. There are truly standout moments in this game.

my main hope for this game was that the story would be good enough to carry it, but unfortunately that wasnt the case. The writing for the story is honestly predictable even more so if you are have consumed your fair share of media from Japan (the story is very anime like). I did maybe 1 side quest, cleansed all the shrines and completed the main story in 10hrs43min.
the enviroment was nailed without out a doubt but once you spend enough time in the open world you realize its a mile wide and an inch deep. Maybe this is the consequence of it being an SP game but really there isnt much do to besides side quests for the magatama which provide you upgrades to a skill tree that is inconsequential at best. The basic foundation of the combat could have been improved upon with an intuitive skill tree, dont confuse this with me wanting complicated comabt systmes. a combat system can still be simple and enjoyable when you have the option to mold it into something else but it falls short since the combat pretty much is always empty out your fire charges and then dump your wind element until something is dead.
The last 2 chapters were rushed, that was easy to see. whether is was due to the halfway change in creative directors or possibly something else you can tell there was a push to release the game without delays.

All game loops are repetitive... that is in the definition of a gameplay loop. What this game needed to fill out its open world was more enemy variety, and perhaps a few more unique areas like the tall shopping mall in the center. Perhaps some side quests that "just happen" instead of the player triggering them manually.

I 100% this game, including Spider thread mode. I say this game has a serious issue of Ubisoft syndrome. It bloated with collectibles that I spend way too much time to collect, then received the underwhelming rewards in return. They really should come up with better reward and a lot less collectibles, or...focus on developing better side missions. Many mission in this game based on Japanese urban legend that I find very creepy, such as the train station that is not supposed to exist. I read the original story and totally look forward to how they gonna tell this horror story. Unfortunately it ended up being one bland mission that I simply get on train and fight mini boss, the end.
For spider thread mode, I think it's a free dlc with lots of potential. But it get tiring when I died and have to redo the whole thing from the beginning over and over again. They have variation of maps and missions, but too bad it get repetitive quickly. Later, This mode became my long grinding mission to get the Iron bead so that I can breeze through everything quicker. After I beat level 30, I just go back to the beginning, reset/reload until I find a map I want to get collectible, repeat until 100%.
Surprisingly, In the end, I still like this game and not regret pre-ordered it because there are things that I like more that dislike. But it's the kind of game that I would agree when people say any negative things about it.

    You’re a freaking machine 100 percenting these games 💯💯💯
As for the game itself. I really like the visuals of the weaving especially. It looks really cool especially when you were fighting and that dragon thing was in the background.
But I could tell and you mentioned that moving past the aesthetic, the core game essentially has some of the feel and problems of the Ubisoft content farm. “Find the tower to explore map, combat becomes basic and repetitive”
Coming off of elden ring I think ima have to pass on this and go for a game with a totally different feel for my next purchase

    • @SouthernGuy5423
      @SouthernGuy5423 Před 2 lety

I agree with you. The Ethereal Weaving is super cool conceptually, and looks very neat, but it feels like it needed 1 or 2 more things to really set it apart. If you could use the threads to pull enemy's to you, or you to them, maybe? Also, something to improve mobility in some way. Every single fight comes down to kiting your enemies aside from the few giant enemies.
Also, they didn't do a great job of telling the story of Akita and Mari. It took like 4 chapters for them to tell us that she was his sister, FFS! Its not until the very last scene that we even find out what the deal is between them, why she was in the hospital, etc. Its really hard to care about characters when you know NOTHING about them!
Sure, we knew we had to save her because bad guy nefarious plans, but aside from that? We knew NOTHING about Mari or their family. It felt really bad. Rinko and Reika too felt like missed opportunities for story telling. These are super important characters who you interact with multiple times, and you have to intentionally hunt down side stories to find out anything about them!
I enjoyed the game. It was fun, but it felt like a few pretty obvious changes would have been huge upgrades.

I'm on chapter 3, almost 15 hours in, on hard difficulty, PC. And I gotta say you hit the nail on the head with this review, good sir. I think this game has tons of potential: good story, interesting environment, beautiful graphics, and the fascinating mix between modern times Japan and its mythology. Still, at the point of the game I'm at right now, combat is getting really stale and collecting those spirits is becoming a chore the likes of which I have never experienced before, not even in the notorious open world games by Ubisoft. Would I still recommend buying Ghostwire: Tokyo? Yes, definitely. Would I recommend buying it at full price? Not really, unless cash is not a problem.

Everything about this game feels really intentional and somewhat basic. As we see, it's gonna drive alot of people away from the game. I love it though, it's insanely fun and addicting for me. I love it in the same way I love Elden Ring. Both games are completely different, but they just feel damn good to play. I love the open-ended cryptic nature of ER and I love the streamlined/basic approach for Ghostwire. The combat in Ghostwire is solid too once you start using the parry system and get the timing down. It's easy to just constantly retreat but using the parry allows you to press forward and combat gets super hectic and fun. Gliding to rooftops is great, the verticality and platforming/parkour aspects are nothing mind blowing but the level design is fantastic. It's just a super relaxing game and such a pleasant surprise. The tone of the game is super malleable too, playing the DJ Multiverse songs while exploring makes the game feel arcadey as hell. Utilizing the games OST during missions really drives home the spooky nature of the game. It can definitely be scary at times, the pacing and change in scenery is top notch and will put you on edge. Can't imagine playing this game with a mouse/keyboard. I feel like it's designed specifically for the dual sense, especially with the auto-aim/lock on mechanic. This game isn't really a shooter, it's in the perspective of course but it just doesn't play that way to me. This is the kind of game that you play in a dark room, no distractions. Getting absorbed into the world is a wonderful experience.

  • @darthollpheist1156
    @darthollpheist1156 Před 2 lety

I don't like this new trend of open world and battle royal. I love some open world games. Elden Ring did it right. But, it wouldn't be good if not for the fact that you are kind of pushed in certain directions by difficulty of enemies and bosses. Red Dead 2. Great game. Witcher 3, great game with a massive flaw. The whole point of the story is to find Ciri but you get tons of jobs and quests. So while the main objective is literally telling you that you're running out of time to find her... you really aren't and it pulls you out of the story. I would often try to find ways to do main objectives until there was a point where you were at some kind of dead end and I would run off and do other missions then. But, then the story missions become SUPER easy (even on the harder difficulties).
It seems like a few games made great open world games, so everyone jumped on the wagon. There are games that just are not meant for open world. I don't care if the game isn't open world if it's good. Devil My Cry games are some of the best games ever. Basically all the hack-n-slash games that are great, aren't open world.

I love cool, detailed city environments, but to me it feels just lazy that the city is empty and lifeless.
I am not at all interested in collectibles, if they have no practical use for gameplay.

Since they chose to use open world style, they really should've fleshed that aspect out more. For example imagine having 2 Tokyos that you could switch between, normal and spiritual. Exploring a busy bustling city with day/night cycle and dealing with some quests there, while occasionally dipping into the spiritual hell to solve mysteries/issues that are in some way connected to the mundane Tokyo, and building the game on that idea. Would take double or triple the work for the devs though I assume.

My biggest complaint (weirdly you make a similar one though I got this title on PS5) is the controls just don't feel properly responsive. This and forspoken are the reasons I bought the 5. This........ As much as I wanna say it's everything I've always wanted. I'm a tad left wanting and sad. It's a good game. Not 60$ good though

The game's a little weird I kind of feel like the world is a little dull and boring but the games fun and Sun trusting the magic combat is fun.. I kind of feel the same way about the Hogwarts game the open-world is just filled with collectibles I I'm so sick of games like this though.. I got so bored with Hogwarts I couldn't even finish it I finished almost a whole entire map by the time I was level 30

If it would be (more) lineair, the game probably would be too short. They needed to ask 60 dollars/euros for this, so how do you inflate playtime? You guessed it, by adding open world collecathons. It's the 2010+'s substitute for gameplay in the gaming industry, a gimmick especially notorious in the triple-A gaming space.
Thank you for the honest review.

There are some truly great AAA games that come out every once in a while.
The issue is that they are getting so rare these days. A lot of AAA games turn into copy and paste series that never even get refined through all of it. And for some reason those are the most popular/played types🤔.
I absolutely love when I high budget game manages to be different and good. And finished.... This game instantly caught my eye. Too bad it turned out to be pretty generic underneath its epic and different premise.
All hope is not lost for AAA games. The good ones are just getting harder to find.
Unfortunate that WAY more indie titles are more interesting than most AAA games. Or fortunate. Some indie games are among the best games I've ever played.

I love Yokai stories. But...I am not totally sold on this game. I mean, I'm not really a fan of FPS's and this looks like it plays as an FPS 95% of the time. TBH, the only time I get into first person games is when they are just about story, exploration, and puzzles. Not combat or platforming. When combat is a major part of a game, I really enjoy it more when I can see my character. The first person perspective is too detached. I don't know where I am in the game world in relation to enemies (or anything interactable, really).

  • @Pedone_Rosso

Bummer. It could have been an interesting and original title.
When the creative director of a game leaves the project pretty early in its development (Ikumi Nakamura, for health reasons), usually you can tell, once you get to actually play it.
Sometimes it's just some incoherence between parts of the game, and it doesn't detract too much from the experience. Other times it's more than that.
I guess this falls into the second category, and that's unfortunate. Such an unusual setting and story deserved a better showcase.
    Thanks for your videos!

I bought this game and regret spending 60 dollars on it. It’s a good game but 30 hours doesn’t justify 60 dollars when the 30 hours is an open world experience. Open world games should be longer to make up for the run of the mill content.

This is the type of game you would expect to get within the first two years of a new gen system. Devs are mostly exploring the new tech and tend to focus more on the graphical fidelity and the gameplay often feels shallow (The Order). I think the covid seriously slow down things to the point that we are still in that expiremental phase where devs are still mostly showing off the tech in the most obvious ways. Wonder how much longer its going to take the devs to move from the honeymoon phase...

Till recently was Worth a Buy, but I'm tired of the same rantings, we all know Xray-vision is a thing now, and all this shit which came with new generation gaming.
