I've been a Viper fanboy since getting into Age of Empires 2 for the first time as an adult maybe 4 years ago, but isn't it great that now Hera, Yo, TaToh, Liereyy, Daut, and Villese all are legitimate contenders in any tournament? It's too bad viewership is going down post-pandemic, because really we're seeing the best competition at the highest level probably ever.
Viewership is bouncing back now with the move to twitch and im sure the next hadden cup will hit 75k viewers in the final.

Yeah, as someone who never seen either of these 2 players play, Hera made a really strong first impression for me with that first game. I thought for sure he was doomed, I've seen some hard comebacks before but I wasn't expecting that one. A very tenacious player. Respect.

Some of those games were really a lot of fun to watch.
Tatoh has positioned himself as a solid #3, hell, maybe even a #2 in the Aoe scene right now. So good to see, he was always up there, but for a while was absent from finishing at the top of S-tier tourneys.
He also won Redbull last year, that was a huge boost, and he's been really playing incredible this year

Tatoh in the Arabia game when he was 4-1 down in probably the greatest individual performance in AOE history. To hit back against a beast like Hera w/ a worse civ and deficit is massive

I was kinda wondering the same thing
He had confidence in his micro, but took bad trades. Switching to skirms also opens up new avenues for your opponent to go with siege and other units.

first game is maddening. everytime someone does a good push they still allow a bunch of vills to escape and make it messy. he just had to put a few walls on both sides.
2:20:38 Tatoh uses a cheat program to make pretty walls that are a perfect circle. :D
Game 1… if you watched the arena-only tourney earlier this year, you would know that their strategy was nearly always to allow the first player to push into their base, hold, and then in imp push it all back and win the game somehow

Thank you so much for casting. I'm sure memb is a really nice guy and his tournaments are great, but I just can't stand listening to his babbling and constant hyping and yelling. It is so stressful and seems so out of touch with the co-casters who never get the chance to say anything. The 4th game gave me a headache (50 mins of shouting and horrible analysis "cataprachts eat the elephant archers") and then I realised my favourite duo casted this as well. Thanks Tristan and Dave - you guys are 100/100 casting duo. Keep it up!

Warlords is just the name of the tournament, the game is AOE2
Lmao, that first game was whack. Tatoh was already in the process of cleaning up Hera's stuff, but then Hera speedran Bombard Cannons and Tatoh lost.
This game is totally different at high elo, turns from fast imp to treb and knight rush into micro wins. Amazes me how different the game is depending on experience

4th game I would've said probably the best play from Hera could've been Onagers, they do better group damage than Bombard Cannons. Which Hera was lacking, bombard Cannons is just more for Anti Trebs, and anti Onagers, good that the casters agree with that.

Having the ability to hotspot is
a) Not always an option
b) expensive depending on your carrier
c) sometimes worse than your actual internet (because of cell coverage)

I feel it would be much more strategy oriented, and very clean to watch. Also, i feel we might see some low-apm players beat big names. Of course, it might be boring for them but so good for us!

Question for the next level gamers here: In AOE2DE, can the opponent see the gold light that comes from a TC when you're researching to the next age? Thus able to know you're researching it there and can try to target the TC over the other (in reference to T90's commentary @2:34:00)I understand an experiment could tell me this answer in a few dozen minutes, but I'd much rather be lazy and ask the brilliant AOE2DE community instead!

Why did TaToH give up in the first game? He lost his push in Hera's base, but his was completely unmolested. We all thought Hera was done for, but he kept fighting and won. I thought TaToH gave up too soon.
I learned this from my days of watching Starcraft. Players at this level will be pacing themselves, and it's less about the individual rounds and more about managing player stamina. He could keep fighting and take a chance for victory in that game, but that's at least another 20-30 minutes of hard work and mental effort early in a series that will take effort away from later rounds. It's also about prediction. These players have played so many games against each other and other players on their own level that when provided with a gamestate and an opponent they will make decisions like that, which makes no sense to us because we do not share that experience. TatoH has likely played Mongols vs Vietnamese several times for practice games and knows. If the game gets to this place and these things are true, I should quit.

Viper from my own off and on watching really seems to have fallen off, mastapiece memes don't keep me interested if you keep losing as often as he does.
One piece of advice, add additional gameplay after the game is over (just loop it), to reach a length of the video that would be a suited for a full set. That way the suspense will last til the end.
