    The Mammoth Scenic Loop was originally built as an emergency route out of Mammoth. They had to call it something so why Not the "Scenic Loop Rd". Inyo craters, The Obsidian Dome and Crater Flats are located off the Scenic loop Road. Definitely worth checking out.. thanks for the video

      Oh that makes sense, thanks for sharing that! Yeah, Mammoth Scenic Loop was pretty, but definitely not what I was hoping for. I'm adding Obsidian Dome and Crater Flats to my itinerary this summer. Thanks for the tip.

    Very nice. I also live in L.A. (SF Valley), and have never been to Mammoth. I have a VW Golf so nice to know you made it up in a Fiat. I have this perception you need an 4wd suv to get there. I do want to go snowboarding though. I'm gathering all my info to just head up there. Thank you. Subbed.

      You'll have such a great time in Mammoth. That drive up along the eastern Sierras is just incredible. Some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen.

    Great little trip covering a lot of areas you could spend days in. Nice you stopped by the Olancha Sculpture Garden, a lot of people miss this. I know there was lots of snow when you went but the most scenic drive in Mammoth is the drive into the lakes basin. This is where you’ll see so many lakes and views often with a very short walk. Convict Lake is stunning in both winter ( posted a youtube video of my winter hike) and summer . Also, so many neat places along 395, happy you explored a few.

      Yes, there was quite a bit of snow during my visit. I ended up running into lots of closed roads while trying to explore other areas. I definitely want to go back in the summer so I can see more.

    I did a very similar road trip around the first of June. By that time, I was able to hike on the Mt. Whitney trail and hike around and behind Convict Lake. I stayed in Bishop also, as Mammoth prices during ski season are pretty steep. I did get my meatball sandwich at Nik n Willies Pizza in Mammoth, as it’s kind of a tradition of mine. Nice road trip video, thanks for posting.

      I appreciate your comment. It sounds like we had a similar itinerary. I would have loved to see the Mt. Whitney trail again, such a beautiful hike.

    Hello,
    I found your channel while looking through hiking videos in the eastern sierras. I am in Nashville but lived in LA for several years and try to get back to the Sierras every couple of years. I really enjoyed this video as well as several of your others that I watched. I even discovered something new from your Las Vegas trip that I’ll be checking out in October when I fly in before heading to the mountains. Thanks for sharing!

      Thank you so much, I really appreciate that. I've been meaning to visit Nashville forever but haven't made my way out there just yet. It looks like such a fun city.

      It has grown a lot here in the past several years and the culinary scene has expanded greatly, and continues to do so. There is a lot to see and do. The eastern Tennessee mountains are stunning, and only 3 to 4 hours away from Nashville. Much different terrain than the Sierras, but beautiful in their own way. Hopefully you’ll be able to make that trip someday. Keep the great videos coming and happy Sunday! 😊

    North end of Lee Vining right off Hwy 395 there is a National Forest visitor Center over looking Mono Lake & a paved road further up next to Hwy 395 goes to the beach next to Mono lake. In Lee vining down the road next to the shell station is a park & Upside down house. Behind the Chevron station is a private camp ground & they have hot showers & laundry with plug ins for Blow Driers get tokens at the office for the showers & you need quarters for the laundry.

    Just as your leaving Bishop to the north at the curve go straight on Hwy 6 just a few miles out of Bishop to Laws Railroad Museum. At Toms place turn off go straight up the mountain to Rock creek lake East Fork is the best place to camp, & at the Rock Creek Lodge at over 9,000 Ft. by the Lake they serve Homemade pies! don't know if they still do it but at Toms Place down the Mountain they had or have Prime Rib on Wednesdays. There are Hot Springs near Crowley Lake you can go into.

    Just a tip- please indicate when(what month and year) your video is filmed. That way us viewers can see what the weather is usually like during that time of year. I’m wishing to visit mammoth lakes area in mid march but I have no idea when you were there. I see you uploaded this video on May but that is the upload date, which could be months or just days from when it was filmed.
    Edit- you did mention the month so thank you..,
    If you’re there in the end of April then yeah, when I go in mid March there is a high likelihood that the lakes will still be frozen.

    • @rockalittletravel
      @rockalittletravel  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes, the lakes will still be frozen in March. Honestly, it's such a beautiful area, I think anytime would be great for a visit.

      Oh that's awesome, I didn't know that. I'll have to check that out next time. I'm planning a return trip once the snow melts.

  • @lakrfan4980
    @lakrfan4980 Před rokem +3

    People need to visit Mammoth in late summer when more of the snow has melted. Your video does not show any of the upper lakes including Twin Lakes and Lake Mary. Even Convict Lake will offer more scenic views when the ice has melted. A visit here is not complete until you have taken the gondola ride to the top of Mammoth Mountain.

    • @rockalittletravel
      @rockalittletravel  Před rokem

      Oh absolutely. I ran into lots of unplowed roads when driving around Mammoth during this trip so I couldn't get to some of the lakes I wanted to visit. I definitely plan to come back, probably in early fall.
