    Not sure how you managed to do the pseudo- time trial start, but it's incredible! More flexibility in terms of event procedures is on top of my wishlist for modern sims. It would be amazing to do oval races, grand prix racing, and rally type stuff in the same sim. High hopes for oval stuff in automobilista 2 though

    You've excelled yourself here. Not only your memory of this track talking your way around it the whole time, but how you've managed to pull off a convincing time trialwith traffic in GTR2 has been very clever.

    Great video. I noticed your commentary was quite different (probs unintentionally) as you sounded really focused on talking yourself around the enormous lap. So much to remember you can’t spare even a second to think about anything but the lap.
    One of the most interesting parts was when you were behind the Fulvia and even though your car far outclasses it, the nature of the circuit meant you were equal in pace for a long while.

    • @albertogambino2562
      @albertogambino2562 Před 2 lety +5

      I agree. I was surprised how fast was the Fulvia in that section. Beautiful engineering.

    "Just up to third for a second. Down to town hall. Flat out through the streets. Try not to lock the tires." - "Dad, you're just supposed to drive me to school, okay?" - "Hairpin up here, we'll take a line in the middle. Just put in good corners." - "Da-had!" - "Okay son, we're there. Love you! Bye!" wrroooooooooooom

    And the fact that you can simulate it properly, with cars on track and all, is amazing (especially considering that even vast majority of rally games don't do it)
    I've never seen the whole track, and some parts actually look insane!

    I’ve really enjoyed learning about the Targa Florio from this and your other video on it. Amazing this was a real track, but particularly my hats off to the modding team that made this super long track. The only problem I had was getting motion sickness from this video, which has never happened to me before on a sim racing video! Must be all the quick changes in direction on the twisty bits. So I’ve had to watch this in multiple sittings!

  • @SteffenT1981
    @SteffenT1981 Před 2 lety +7

    After Siracusa I realized the Targa would be the next event on your calender, but I doubted you would be doing it. Then you released your video about the Targa Florio, and I was convinced you would race there.
    I wonder how much practice you did before?
    In reality Leo Kinnunen drove the quickest lap ever on this circuit in 33:36 driving a Porsche 908/3. So, many of your opponents went much quicker then they did in reality. The AI is obviously not afraid of dying...
    It was great to watch. Well done!

    Man, yours is my go to channel for vintage sim racing stuff! The videos you put out are simply amazing. I love the topics, the narration, cinematography, an the overall mood of the videos. I'm a life long enthusiast of motor racing from (mainly) the 60s and 70s, and I have you to thank for getting me into some of these games, and their mods. I've currently been modding AC, and GTR 2 with the vintage stuff, and I'm loving it!
    Granted I'm no pro when it comes to sims, and I'm keeping the settings on the arcade side. I'm playing with a game pad because currently, I have no room for a wheel and pedals setup. I would love to have a decent setup one day though. I have no real interest in the hardcore side of gaming anyway, and I'm mostly just enjoying the historic vehicles and tracks, and the thrill of racing. Thank you, and keep doing what you do!

  • @steenzeebergiversendyrmose1517

    So fluent and nice driving all the way, with firm evidence that uploader has done his research and practice properly.
    I got the impression some months ago that you are quite new to Targa Florio (through your presentations of AC- and rF2 track mod versions)?
    It reminds me of my own struggles and rewarding feelings after completing my own hard learning curve 9 years ago in the rFactor track mod version (just after visiting the real slopes on a 40 year birthday present to myself via a birthday trip to Sicily, with my by then girlfriend and now wife as an innocent and not-knowing passenger of what to come), after investing about 50 hours (maybe more) through more than a month, the first 20 hours just by drive-out and trying memorizing, then a project of splitting up in sections and concentrate at maybe 1-2 sections a time.
    Kudos from Denmark! 🙂

    One of the most awesome tracks that I enjoy from time to time. My most favorite car is the BMW 2002 turbo of the TCL-pack for AC. I drive on Abulzz' Targa Florio, which is WIP and requires a Patreon-donation (1 €/M) at least once, but IMO is totally worth it.
    What you might also like, are the tracks of Fat-Alfie, especially Fonteny and Feldbergring. The love for detail on these tracks is, IMO, unmatched in AC-tracks.

    Awesome job👌 If that bollard would be a solid object in game it would have been over, but fantastic effort nonetheless.
    One thing you could do would be to post the exact installation and settings you used to simulate that race- I’m sure I’m not the only one obsessed with this track who needs some help getting this track/race to work properly. I only have P&G cars with 10th Anniversary+HD mods atm. A race start either places all cars starting in line or separated apart along the circuit. Most cars crash out at various sectors regardless of 100% or 95% strength. I can turn solid 38’s or 40’ laps (1600 Alfa GTA) in mixed weather, but need AI to compete. A guide would be extremely helpful- Thanks!

      I remember that someone in the GPL community came up with, I'd guess you'd call it a utility, that let you start at different places on the Nordschleife to help you learn the various sections. It was a big help (to me at least) in getting familiar with the track. It'd be really nice if there were something similar for the Targa Florio.

      If you have Assetto Corsa, there is a cool free mod by simtraxx and the AI works (well, in small numbers). The way I'm learning it is by following the AI around the track in a Mazda RX3, but there is probably a better method. Use the fastest possible car, like a Ford P68 or a 908 Langheck, and follow an AI controlled Mazda RX3 (or anything in that class, like Alfa GTA, Ford Fairlaine, Austin Mini). Each lap you complete, move up a class to follow (so the next time you'll be facing GT cars like the 330 GTO, Shelby Daytona, Jaaaaaaag E-Type). Then you can follow an AI in another sports car and you should (in theory, maybe) know the track enough to go on a lap on your own. Following in the same car is flawed because I was around 29 minutes in the lap and I already had a few hairy moments but then I came to the 2nd village and just sBinalla'd to hell.

    @Villoresi Před 2 lety

    While the Targa is one of the most famous, the course variability of something like the Mille or Carrera may be greater, not to mention, in those longer races, you only do the course once.
    One thing I really wish I had a better idea of is the average cornering speeds and speed/rate of climb and descent on the Stradale del Mugello compared to the Madonie Piccolo.
    Since I really don't think Mugello has a comparable main straight, even if average lap speeds are quite close, it would mean cornering speeds have to be higher.
    One of the scary things is, the 1967 Ferrari 330 P4/412 P was about 2 minutes faster than even the 330 P3 around the Madonie Piccolo. The Porsche 910 was about a one-minute improvement over the 906.
    Imagine being in the high-winged Chaparral 2F here in 1967. Also, Ford of France sent a GT40 Mk. II to Mugello in '67, and it finished 4th, with Ligier and Schlesser at the controls.
    Having the traffic there really emphasizes how relentless certain sections are.
    I'd say there is something in the area of accuracy left to be desired here. The fastest lap of the 1966 event was 39 min, 5.7 sec, set by the Klass/Davis Porsche 906/8. There wasn't a 33-minute lap around the Targa course until 1970.
    It will definitely help your times if you can get more confident with the uphill sections.
    Lots of thrilling places to stand to watch, until a car comes flying off; then you're a cream puff. But yeah, that's just how it was back then.
    Sometimes, you could work a little less hard at psyching yourself out.

    11th and 12th place under witness protection? (for real I'm guessing they were duplicates to fill the track)

      I only kept track of the top 10 because i had to manually write down every lap time for ever car. 18 cars finished from the 30 that I started

    That big-ass straight 39:00... Do that, crouched over the bars (or tucked in behind that silly little wind-screen on the "bullet fairing") of a '66 Moto Guzzi or Ducati... ummmm

    Ok, how did you do this race with the cars starting in intervals? I'm guessing you had to fake the start. Had a grid do a race and you waited a awhile to leave the starting line behind them. And that gave you traffic and their times. Anyway the track looks a lot better fleshed out than the last time I tried it, which was many years ago.

      The ‘Historic’ version of the circuit has a very spread out grid so cars are roughly ~15 seconds apart. I manually recorded the lap times of every car to calculate the results

      @@GPLaps Oh, cool. That was a good solution they came up with.

    Slight massive mistake: The Group 4 Ford wouldnt be eglible for points in the International Manufacturers' Championship.
