  • ►If your BMW F30 3-Series is in need of a suspension update, and if you'd like to get something with a focus on performance, coilovers may be the way to go. Whether your BMW F30 3-series is in need of new suspension or if you're looking for a look/performance advantage, coilovers are the way to go. Worn out suspension components are dangerous and your car won't handle as well.
    Nate Vincent is back in another DIY to show you how to install a set of BC Racing coilovers on a 2013 BMW F30 328xi. The process is similar for both Xdrive and RWD BMWs and can be done in your driveway with just a few simple tools.

    I would like to extend my gratitude to you for showing exactly what is required to this job. As a beginner mechanic, I learned a lot watching your DIY video on this particular job. I own a F30 and watching this video, I was able to inventory my tools and identify the ones i don't have to do this job myself. I thank you and continue to do more videos on how to do jobs on BMWs. I do like to ask if you have a video on how to replace rear bearing on a F30. I would really appreciate you. Thank you.

    You don’t have to counter hold the front control thrust arm nut, Gareth taught me that in the control arm vid 😉

    My 2016 328i has 5 bolts on each of the shocks instead of 3 like yours. Why it's different? This make me doubt to get the same shocks and coilovers.

  • @aleugen6045
    @aleugen6045 Před 3 lety +3

    I own a F31 - 3210xd from 2015 (non-LCI) . I did replace the control arms and there was no need to counter with a 18mm socket, accessing the bolt head from front was enough.
    Based on my experience I would have two technical questions:
    - According to available info on the net, on my car these bolts are also 'torque to yield' (100NM +90deg).
    - Any idea as to why/when the bolt configuration changed?

    I wonder if we have to loosen the bolts for the thrust arm and control arm. Can we use a 3' thread rod threaded into the wheel stud as leverage to push the whole knuckle assembly down to get the strut assembly in?

    • @ReelVibesVault
      @ReelVibesVault Před rokem

      Wait a 3 inch rod into the wheel stud to use as leverage sounds smart but won’t that damage the place for the wheel stud and also where do I find a 3 inch rod ?

  • @ReelVibesVault
    @ReelVibesVault Před rokem

    Bro u made it look so easy I got bilstein shocks they get wider at the bottom I slid it down but now I’m stuck at the wide part I’m trying to spread the knuckle with a flathead but it’s difficult to keep it spread while I try to wiggle it down why design it like this ? It’s not even convenient very hard bump the knuckle will slide up overall a very stupid design by bmw I don’t know why it does this to me even though I love it 😢

      About to go and start cursing at the damn thing again. I didn't even need to remove the bolt apparently since I'm keeping the stock spring smh so irritated they didn't mention this and the fact that the nut is a one-time use torque to yield so now I also gotta wait for another part.

    I have a question. I have a 2016 340 x drive with adaptive suspension. I’m looking at the BC Racing BR series coil overs but would this work with my adaptive suspension?

    • @fcpeuro
      @fcpeuro  Před 2 lety +3

      Hello, the system would not work any longer as there is no electronic dampening in the BC coilovers. That would cause you to have an error message on your cluster. There are options available for your vehicle that would work with the adaptive suspension feature, from Bilstein!

    Just purchased a few parts from you. Is this pretty much the same for 128i? I bought Koni str with Eibach springs. Got a quote from a shop that works on German cars. They quoted me $2400 to install already bought suspension 🤣
    I decided to just do it on my own. I’m in the process of gathering tools now. Tools will cost me close to $1000, but I’ll have a decent set of tools for the next project. I’m pretty much getting all Milwaukee tools. Two sets of impact sockets, their 3/8 long handle ratchet, their flex ratcheting wrenches, and of course the m18 mod torque impact. I bought the spindle spreader from FCP today, so hopefully I’ll have all the tools needed.

      Oh yea. It's a great investment. That's the road to self sufficiency in owning and saving thousands and thousands over the years to come! I don't take ANYTHING to the shop anymore and I started buying tools five years ago. I have had a little help from a friend in that I trade some garage room to work on his stuff and he lent me some tools when I needed some special types etc. The next thing you should invest in for BMW's or German cars in general are a set (well a couple sets of course it never ends really lol) Allen sockets and Allen Long ball end wenches. BEWARE! Many Socket sets DON'T include the 16MM or sometimes the 19MM or it can vary even for some weird reason. I think it's because they think they don't really need to as there are almost perfect corresponding Standard Units that cover those sizes. EG 1/2 inch socket (Or wrench) = 14mm Socket or 16mm? (or something like that I don't recall the exact size match ups). You may have already bought the "E-TorX" and "Torx" Socket sets. Those are VERY important and used ALL the time! Good luck and all the best!

    Aren't the control arm bolts to the subframe one time use since you need to do an extra 90 after torquing to spec, wouldn't loosing them "technically" require replacement of the bolts?

    ..Its not even low.. But you forgot to mention the best part about this project. Once you slam the car, you gotta get your alignment done. Side note. You gotta find an alignment shop that has a roll in bay because chances are after this install your car will scrape on a normal alignment machine.

  • @michaelmm94
    @michaelmm94 Před měsícem

    Camber bolt torque spec on the rear shocks is 165nm, not 100nm....this video has a lot of errors.
    Incorrect torque specs, failure to mention several bolts and nuts that need to be renewed. Didnt mention to support the front wheel when removing strut so you don't rip out your break lines, didn't mention putting brake line bracket back. So many issues, Gary's videos are 10000% more accurate.
    Very bad for a channel people rely on to do repairs.
