Spec Corvette Build - Brake Duct Update

  • One of the common questions I get is whether brake ducts should be used in Spec Corvette. I installed them on my first build (the car featured in this video) because I had brake issues in every other car I've raced and figured that would be the case in Spec Corvette, too. I had no heat issues with that build. Front rotors lasted 1.5 to 2 seasons and I would go through 2 to 3 set of front pads in a season. On my second build, I ran an experiment with no brake ducts. Running the same rotors and pads, I'm finding similar longevity and performance. There's still no fluid boiling or brake fade.
Given the similarity in performance and wear, I'm choosing to remove the ducts from my original build to reduce maintenance and make the car easier to work on. Since Spec Corvette is limited to 380 rear wheel horsepower and a spec 200 treadwear tire, I don't think it's worth it to run ducts in our class.

I don't always comment, but I do always watch your videos. FWIW, I heartily approve of your decision to remove those delipidated brake ducts.
