The thing about ice age, that I simultaneously love and find freaky, is that they are very unapologetically animals, like, it’s not really a matter of wrong or right, it’s a matter of survival, and the animals will do what they will. It’s very unsettling, which i find relatively unique in ice age as compared to zootopia for example, where they scorned their animalistic side.
Sid starting the swim camp was his attempt at recreating the bond he had with Pinky (the baby human) from the 1st movie.
I thought the baby name is Rashad
@@Yvanehtnioj2000It's Roshan
I kinda like that Ellie doesn’t know that she’s not a possum because that just means that they took her in and loved her and raised her like they would any of their own children. There is no way for her to fathom that she’s not a possum because it’s all she’s known and who she was raised to be and who pShe was raised by and whatnot
Exactly. And she did say that she did sense she might be different from her brothers. Also, it's not surprising that Crash and Eddie never told her.
Sort of disagree there. It's just a movie and all, yada yada, but I feel she should've had the awareness to realize. I mean, a loving adoptive family doesn't erase self-awareness, right? lol
@@A_VeryIdea what are you talking about? same thing happens in real life. raise a cat with dogs and the cat will act and think like a dog
Well said
@@A_VeryIdea my cat was raised only with dogs and us (she has anxiety and never left home) and she definitely acts as a dog, plays like a dog and tries to drink water like a dog kjhkj
Unpopular take apparently but I think Sid makes a great role model. He's genuine, kind, he cares about the kids. He never gives up despite being bullies by nearly everyone he meets. He's pure in a way that he doesn't do things just for alternative rewards.
Agreed. He just needs some help refining his social skills and overcoming his emotional issues.
he's also the most consistent moral compass the rest of the herd has.
He was originally supposed to be more of a womanizing scam artist in the first film, but they had to tone him down to make him likable, lol
You can see a bit of that original version in the deleted scenes of the first film.
@@kobemarion1137 I'll have to look that up.
I honestly liked the sequel just as much as the original. Since there were no main female characters in the first installment, Ellie was a welcome inclusion, with her romance with Manny sweet to watch.
Me too.
The two reptiles are Cretaceous (the long-snouted one) and Maelstrom (the chunky boy). They're a Metriorhynchus (a species of oceanic crocodiliform) and Globidens (a species of mosasaur) respectively, though heavily stylized.
I think it's funny that Diego is afraid of water when of all cats, tigers are the ones who love water and can swim. But as sabertooth he would be able to. He kind of channeled his futur descendants here lol
I rly like this one. It deals with many interesting character problems. Diego being afraid of the water and then facing his fear, Sid being underapreciated by the others and proving himself later, Manny being "the last of his kind" and his struggles, Ellie realising who she really is. It was very well done and the character progression was at a good pace and felt real.
Manny: I'm not fat. It's this fur, it makes me look big. It's poofy.
Ellie: Oh, okay. He's fat.
Me: Look who's talking.
Manny does not lost his parents, he lost his mate and his son
The creature that was pooping was a more accurate prehistoric sloth
The soundtrack sounds like How to Train your Dragon because it was composed by John Powell too 💙
The fang tooth squirrel is named Scrat and that part where Sid gets a mouthful of ass gas always reduces me to a laughing heap
Scrap (the squirrel) is just over there single-handedly making everything happen: the plot of the movie, the evolution of the world...
This was the first full movie I saw in theaters, and I still have a softspot for it. The animation is a massive improvement over the original, Eliie and Manny have se pretty good chemistry, and a few of the scenes, (the fire king, Food, Glorious Food, and all the scrat scenes) are hilarious, and some of my favorites in animation to this day.
I love this movie too.
the Mammoth March music is beautiful. I love it
@Pinkish Haven ice age soundtrack in general is goated. John Powell is the man
I love the first 3 Ice Age movies. After that I can't really recommend the others. But still, they're one of my favourite animation movie series. The humour is hilarious, especially Scrat!!! 😂
@@james_crawford
Also, I like how he brought the original movie's soundtrack back for the 5th movie
Edit: I just learned he didn't 'come back for the 5th movie. That explains a lot
Ive never given Will Arnett vulture enough credit for giving the land animals a fighting chance
He was just looking out for his own wellbeing. If all the animals died in the flood, food for him would run out eventually.
You hit the nail right on the head, John Powell composed for both How to Train Your Dragon and Ice Age 2: The Meltdown!
Love this reaction! A Disney movie that’s super underrated is The Great Mouse Detective- it’s amazing! It pays homage to Sherlock Holmes and has the legendary Vincent Price voicing the villain. It’s just so good and so nostalgic! Thank you for all your videos! Xxx
You mentioned part of the score reminded you of HTTYD. For Ice Age 2, 3, and 4 the music was composed by John Powell who also composed for all the HTTYD films.
I never get over how awesome it is When ellie gets trapped in that cave and crash and Eddie are just running and screaming for Manny and almost getting trampled over and over and then Manny not wasting any time, just turns around and charge towards The flood to try and save ellie. True heart of gold
Diego yelling jump was the best part of this film
my sister and I used to love this movie. To this day we still randomly sing I believe I can fly and the glorious food parody 😂
I grew up with this one personally so it was always my favorite
It's a shame blue sky studios got shut down
Same. If there was one thing that I won’t forgive Disney was shutting down Blue Sky Studios in February 2021 two years after the 21st Century Fox acquisition in March 2019. Because originally, Disney did had plans for Blue Sky Studios and I was optimistic on Blue Sky Studios future at Disney, despite the vast majority of animation fans remaining skeptical that Disney would shut the studio sooner or later since at the time Disney had three animation studios: Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation and Blue Sky
Sadly once _Spies in Disguise_ underperformed at the box office, followed by the COVID-19 pandemic which affected The Walt Disney Company from its Theatrical Entertainment business, Theme Parks, and Cruise Lines along with _Nimona_ which saw the film getting delayed and pushed back by Disney until it’s initial cancellation (although Netflix and Annapurna picked it up) following Blue Sky’s closure, Disney shut the studio.
I still wish the best of luck and prayers to the former Animators at Blue Sky Studios eventually finding jobs after Blue Sky’s closure.
Also I saw someone mention "The Great Mouse Detective", I second this!!! I grew up with this and loved it a lot! Another very obscure older animation is "Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland" a 1989 animated movie, based on a US comic strip but animated in Japan I believe. Also older animated movies could be "Once Upon a Forest", "The Secret of NIMH", "Ferngully" or even "The Last Unicorn". plus many more. Really showcases how animation was back in 80's and 90s. It would be really cool to see your reactions.
I am with secret of nimh! Love that movie!
" In a Land before our Time" is very beautiful too.
The ending, with the mammoths showing up, is my favorite scene in the entire franchise. Also, the aquatic reptiles are Maelstrom the Pliosaur (green) and Cretaceous the Ichthyosaur (purple).
Cretaceous looks like an alligator/crocodile I'm ngl maybe he's an ancestor of them or something
@@Graboid104 Yeah, he looks nothing like an Ichthyosaur, but that's what he's canon as.
@@Graboid104
He looks more like an exaggerated Metriorhyncus with crocodilian features.
And Maelstrom makes me think of a species of Mosasaur called Globidens due to their short snouts.
Ice age the meltdown is one of my favorite sequels to the Ice Age series. The third film I like because it has one of my favorite characters Ice Age Dawn of the dinosaurs which I hope you guys react to next and enjoy it just as much as I enjoyed it!!!!!
The squirel, Scrat, is my favourite character in the whole series 🤣 and I love how the vultures sang Glorious Food from Oliver Twist 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I remember those primal fish use to scary me as a kid from the way they’re designed, the way they leer at the characters, and especially the music chime that would play when they appear and leave, I still freaky but not as bad as before.
Kung Fu Scrat reminds me of Rafeki fighting the hyenas in The Lion King
Whoever invented sequels, deserves the highest honer (if they make it work, of corse)
I introduced my aunt and uncle to the Ice Age film series years ago. We watched all four movies (I don't think the fifth came out at the time), which they very much enjoyed. My uncle's favorite is Diego.
Diego basically acting like uncle
The music in this sequel is so emotional and meaningful, specially the music of ellie remembering her past.
you guys have no idea how much I appreciate y’all continuing this franchise. This is gonna be fun
This and the first film are the best.
And Cretaceous with Maelstrom are one of my favourite animated villains despite their screen-time.
When it showed Ellie’s backstory without talking, that really showed you that actions speak louder than words you can literally just show a scene happening without talking, and it can be just as moving maybe even more
Scrat is epic, he has his own min clips , the real star of the show.
One of the rare instances where i liked the sequel more then the original. The original had some iconic moments but the jokes and plot were just more memorable in this one.
Agreed
ohh I'm so freaking happy that you guys are continuing the Ice Age sagaaa!🌸
I was so sad when you guys didn't keep watching the others after the first one TwT but ahhh I'm so excited! 💖💖
Before Blue Sky Studios shut down, the animators made a clip of Scrat (the squirrel) finally getting and eating his acorn as a final farewell.
Ice Age: The Meltdown is not as good as the original, but it's still a pretty enjoyable sequel. I love how it's continuing Manny's arc of rebuilding a family after what happened to his previous one in the first film. The animation is better than the first one (and pretty much gotten better with each film), the iconic trio are still as interesting as they were in the original, and the voice cast is talented! Can't wait for you guys to react to Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which is the best sequel in the franchise.
The third one is also my favorite in the franchise.
@@meganlodon mine too
In Polish language is better than the first part.
Obmlhnphmpuno
Xunoynoynoumo❤😅
Yes
35:34 "Yeah, I think it's a famous tune." Yes, it is! It's a song from the musical "Oliver Twist," based on the book about the little orphan boy by Charles Dickens. It's a pretty sad story (which is Dickens' MO.)
I've always been a huge fan of end of the world/risk of extinction movies, so this one is my favorite of them all.
Third movie is my favourite! Looking forward for your reactions!
I enjoyed all the Ice Age movies, they have their own charm. I am so glad you continued the series, I remember seeing the first and was hoping you would do more.
Exactly. I was worried that they weren't going to do the sequels and just do the original
I'm so happy that you guys continue doing it.
Ice age 2 the meltdown is a great movie. It's very great to see all of the characters again in this movie.
Scrat Is Indestructible!! Nothing Can Kill Him!!
LOVE this movie, the best sequel in the franchise imo
Love this movie! Hope you guys watch the 3rd bc that one’s amazing too!!
Those two water predators that were frozen were two aquatic reptiles that apparently survived in ice, kept alive since the non-avian dinosaur age, reawkening in a bird-and-mammal-dominated world.
And at 14:48, that fellow is supposed to be a Chalicotherium, an almost sloth-like distant relative of horses, rhinos, and tapirs.
I know this movie is for young kids but it would be cool if you guys reacted to Over the Moon. The plot is nice and it's a musical!
This is one of the first movies I ever watched. Some of my first memories are of it. And now, over a decade and a half later, I learn new significance about 39:32. What a magical experience.
And yes, this is the best in the franchise.
After some scrolling, it seems no one's mentioned this yet; there's an animated short called No Time for Nuts and it's all about Scrat, the squirrel. I'd definitely love to see you guys reacting to that one. I just recently discovered that there exists an extended version of it that had some 4D elements, strangely enough.
“you have the power of cartoon physics” but those same physics have literally been directly against him this whole time
23:31 Crash: 🎵I believe, I can fly…
(THUD)
I can’t stop laughing at this
🤣🤣🤣🤣
The squirrel has me dying so hard my lungs hurt😂😂😂😂
I never looked into it, but this has to be based on one of the real-life ice age floods. During the ice ages ice dams would form in many areas of the subarctic northern hemisphere. As the weather warmed, meltwater would back up behind the ice and eventually break through or under, causing massive floods as the water drained into low lying areas and eventually out into the ocean. In one flood, Lake Missoula formed behind an ice dam near present day Missoula, Montana until it was around the size of Lake Huron today. Then around 15,000 years ago the ice dam collapsed and the water drained in a massive surge in just a few days, flooding through present-day Idaho, Washington and Oregon. There are large areas of western Washington that still show the damage, called Scablands. There are lots of websites and videos about this and other ice age floods.
The song sung by the vultures about food glorious food comes from the musical "Oliver!"
The Squirrel name is Scratch.
"I forgot about the stupid Villians," hahaha
The Saber tooth squirrel you saw at the beginning. His name is Scrat.
"Food Glorious Food" is from "Oliver Twist". I believe they modify the lyrics a little, to fit the situation better, but the chorus remains the same. The original context of the song is kind of sad considering Oliver and the orphans sung it while being given pathetic food at the orphanage, but this movie still nails how the song's triumphant and happy notes and arrangement contrasts the morbidity of the situation.
This is one of the movies I've enjoyed watching in my childhood ❤ Quick question, when are your guys going to watch the other 3 Ice Age movies?
I honestly loved these movies, the 3rd being my favourite! Such unique and funny animated movies, glad to see you guys enjoying them!
I love to see your reaction to three, four and five there mamy favourites out of this series of movies
Sid: I saved your life, buddy :)
Scrat: You didn't save my life, you ruined my death!
It's a song from a musical called 'Oliver (The Musical)'.
Scrat is the name of the squirrel. Food Glorious Food is from the musical Oliver.
The squirrel is called Scrat. Also, the "hippopotamus" is a type of proboscidean, called Platybelodon, which was closely related to modern elephants.
I like how this movie touches upon Manny’s lack of family in the first movie and being the only mammoth left and fleshes it out more here
I just recently learned that Josh Peck voices one of the possums lmao
Great sequel
22:54 you guys have a good ear that’s John Powell who also did the music for How to Train your Dragon
Yay!!! I was hoping you'd continue this series.
Fun Fact: The score in this film sounds like the one in HTTYD because it's the same composer. John Powell!
“Food glorious food” is from the classic musical Oliver! A fun reference lmao
Idk how popular of an opinion this is but I think the third movie is my favourite. 😂❤ I can't wait for you guys to get to rest of them, a lot of people hate the rest but I loved number 4, and number 5 was entertaining
I like all of them, except for number 5.
@Cat-vr5ss number 3 is my favourite too! I mean, I was always a dinosaur kid, and I still love them, so it makes sense. I really like 4 and 5 too. I don't get the hate for them.
@beccajane209 I think because the plots got a bit more unbelievable, people started to hate them. But I mean it's all fantasy anyway, it didn't bother me because I thought it was done pretty well
@@Cat-vr5ss I get that, but I agree with you, like...they're not believable movies at all. None of them. I meant I just don't get why people are so mean about them. They're dumb fun, and I love re-watching them.
@@beccajane209 me too 😁❤️
This is the first movie I remember seeing in the cinema. The ice age series is a very loved series in my family and like 15 years later we still quote them. My favourite is the third one.
Both Lion king Sequels pleeeaasssee? also glad to see yall tapping back into the other ice age movies
I really like the third one so I can't wait to see your reaction to it!
I also enjoyed the third one! Loved the addition of the Dinosaurs and Buck! 😂
@@tinahastie and the environment design is really cool too!
Love Ice Age! Scrat is one of the greatest characters, like the Mr Bean of animated animals. Missed this reaction on my birthday yesterday.
Fun fact about the song the vultures sang, it’s from the musical “Oliver.” They changed up the lyrics about the foods they’re dreaming of, like mammoth steak 😉. The musical also inspired the Disney movie “Oliver and Company.”
The sloth dance was just hilarious
The squirrel is Scrat. Scrat made the Ice Age movies good.
Don't know if someone else has already mentioned this but the song the vultures sing is from the musical version of Charles Dickens Oliver! From 1968 loved that movie for years before I saw ice age do this comedic parody of the song couldn't stop laughing the first time I saw it
The mamoth scene is one of the best scenes ever with the Music and all so epic
the "Squirrel" is SCRAT you need to do all the movies he has an Arc that is funny
Scrat is basically the same character as Milton in Office space. Have you seen my stapler? It’s a red Swingline
I'm so excited for you guys to check out 3rd, 4th and 5th one. It's really good.❤❤
43:58-44:01 YASSSSSSSSS SID IS THE GLUE OF THE HERD🥰🥰🥰
I remember watching this as a kid and trying to hold my breath for the whole underwater scene and nearly passing out.... also the dvd version of this had a mini game where you could karate piranhas as Scrat
I would like to see you guys react to an animated film called The Last Unicorn. I believe it came out in 1986. It has a very unique animation (influenced by Anime) style, and I love the story. The ending is a little bittersweet, but that is what makes it so good. It still resonates with me to this day.
DIEGO'S SPEECH ABOUT SID WILL ALWAYS BE ADORABLE🥰🥰🥰
Omg yesss ❤️
I like Ice Age 2, it’s a decent follow up from the first film. I do appreciate the subject of Manny being the “last mammoth” having him meet and have a relationship with the possum raised Ellie and discover that he’s not the only mammoth around.
My only cons from this film are the possum bros, Crash and Eddie. They are just some of those sidekick characters that people dislike and don’t get better in the franchise.
My favorite highlights are when Scrat goes kung fu master on those fish and the entire Mini Sloth sequence. Not the best film in the franchise imo, but it has its quirks.
I found the possum twins annoying in this movie, they grew on me in other movies. They continuously antagonise Many in this one.
His name is Scrat.
Knowing that Mammoth's are extinct demonstrates how that relationship wound up panning out...
I'm so happy you guys are finally doing these!! I think the third is probably my favorite. Personally, I don't like the fifth, but overall, it's a really fun series.
I don't really count that last one as '6'. To me, there's five movies. This has got nothing to do with opinion for '6', but I only really see it as separate since it's not produced by Blue Sky and doesn't follow the continuity of the five Ice Age films.
@@thepandorica1660 Oops, I meant the fifth movie😅
it's not a surprise the music has hints of HTTYD - John Powell is the composer for this movie as well!
I cannot wait for you guys to watch Ice Age 3 and 4!
Mammoths on the other side of the ICE WALL😳😳
The little squirrel thing is named Scratt, I believe.
Yesssss you made a new Ice Age reaction video! I had awesome time watching this! 👍❤️
squirrel's name is: Scrat
