    Everyone talks about "brand heritage", but Christopher Ward is establishing theirs as we speak. And they're showing that you can get an incredible watch for not an incredible sum of money. Sounds familiar to what certain brands were doing back in the day 🤔

    • @Megatraum504
      @Megatraum504 Před rokem +14

      brand heritage is such a stupid, frivolous idea to want to throw money away at. I never understand that aspect tbh. What is it even supposed to mean? That they have been making watches for a long time? So Timex has more brand heritage than CW. Find me a braindead who thinks Timex makes better watches. In fact, they have more history than beloved Rolex as well. Highlighting it in this way really shows how useless brand heritage really is.

    • @robertposteschild2353
      @robertposteschild2353 Před rokem +8

      Brand heritage is another way of saying "I want other people to know I have the money to spend on branding". It's such a stupid way to judge a watch.

      @Megatraum504 Před rokem +1

      @@robertposteschild2353 It really is. IF we are just into watches, the specs, design, and functions should be the only things we focus on. Can you imagine holding heritage in such regard that you shy yourself away from amazing watches that interest you? What a pathetic existence.

      @@Megatraum504 While I agree too much emphasis is put on "heritage", I don't think mechanical watches are only about the specs, design, and function either; that's just going too far in the other direction.
      I think heritage is important. As is the design, the specs, functions/features, craftsmanship, etc. It's all about what gets you excited as a collector. As frivolous as you believe it is to spend money on heritage, I'm sure many others think it's frivolous to spend money on a watch at all. It certainly is frivolous to start rationalizing in this way, when the luxury watch hobby is implicitly irrational. Just get what makes you happy, debate about all these different aspects about a watch, shake hands, and move on. The problem comes when, like I said, too much emphasis is put in one thing, and like you said, turns you away from an otherwise fantastic watch.

    • @Megatraum504
      @Megatraum504 Před rokem

      @@rousseau327 there is only so much emphasis to put on things you like about a watch lol. It isn't that complex. You named them all. (I think heritage is important. As is the design, the specs, functions/features, craftsmanship, etc) There isn't any more emphasis to be spread. That being said, I still believe heritage should be at the bottom of the feeding order. Buying RedBull or cigarettes is frivolous also. There are levels to it obviously. Brand heritage being the peak of frivolity when it comes to watches imo.

    I first found Christopher Ward a few years ago while looking for watch straps. I got 2 straps and was so impressed with the quality that I started looking at their watches. I bought the bronze C65 when it first came out. I loved it because it had the styling I really like from the BP Fifty Fathoms, but at a size and thickness that was much more wearable. Mine has been in and out of the ocean often and the patina is slow, but awesome. I have watches from Rolex, Breitling and Omega, and this Christopher Ward holds its own with that company.

    I've the discussed Aquitaine, a C63 Sealander GMT with the turquoise blue dial, and a Nebula Purple Twelve. I've been waiting for about a year for the delivery of a Bel Canto which is long past their initial delivery date. I'm also on the list for a Watch Collector's version of the Twelve (30 pieces). I must say that I enjoy the brand but not the unexpected wait for the Bel Canto which has me a bit steamed. As I've got a full gold Submariner, the Aquitaine is more or less the more useful for playing in and under the ocean. I've a couple of Tudors but I've sold off my dive version which were in 41mm. I don't see myself ever going down that road again regardless of the size. Thanks for posting a great review!!

    Must admit to a growing love of CW watches. Love there new styling and prices are good. It's a shame they don't work out some basic distribution network in other countries to avoid the issues with buying from another country and shipping and then also dealing with warranty issues. I know this is the way they keep costs down but I'm sure having just one distribution centre set up in each country would not add much if anything to the costs because in part it reducing the costs and size of the distribution centre and needs in Europe.

Apparently the cases are made in the same factory as Tudor’s and you don’t get the poor man’s Rolex baggage with a Christopher Ward. I love my C63 Sealander GMT with a white face, absolute gem of a sports watch and gives off OG Explorer 2 vibes without being a straight up homage watch.

    CW is on a huge come up!
    They seem to be in that "can't do anything wrong" faze. I love it.
    Sign me up for the dune, in green and beige.

    I own the GMT C65 Aquitaine as well as two other Christopher Ward watches. I have yet to run across a watch in $1,000 to $1,500 range has a build quality equal too or better than CW.

    I really really like how the case looks from the side but wish there was a bronze bezel with green face variant. Not a fan of colored bezels. Otherwise near perfect for the price . Lovely detail and balance

    I have the original black bay (the Tudor Rose version) and last month bought the Sandhurst 2 from CW as I wanted a mechanical every day watch. It's a great watch and a steal for the price of €1200. Although If I didn’t already have the black bay, I’d have probably bought this instead.

    I've always liked the "hands" videos but I noticed on this one the pauses are just a tad...too...long compared to prior vids. The macro content still does not disappoint!

    The thing is the Tudor will hold its value and could go up in value as a heritage piece to pass down.

    My C65 trident diver is unbeatable quality for the money and looks good with the antique leather, rubber or nato strap for any occasion. The only question is which CW to get next.

    Their Malvern C5 mk2 was incredible value years back but it's only recently that they've been consistently knocking out bangers. Yet still somehow they're not very popular out there. Weird.

    I have this watch C65 Aquitaine Bronze and the Tudor Black Bay Bronze. I wear both in similar situations and more compliments (if you care about such things) on the Christopher Ward. In the end, even being a CW fan, I like the Tudor more because I respect the internal movement and engineering required to have your own movement. Both are great watches though and I do wear the CW in more places without worry of theft or damage.

      @@petrnovak8143 the weathering on the Tudor is much better looking, earthier and subtle. The bronze on CW has more copper I think and is more obvious.

    That CW Aquitaine looks like a very nice Fifty Fathoms homage, whereas, the Black Bay 58 is a highly competent personality vacuum of a watch.

    I am a fan of CW. The chicken watch, sorry "The Belcanto" is beautiful, stunning even and has lifted CW up in a lot of people's eyes. Yes, i like the watch you have there but i am not a fan of bronze but the all steel one would definitly be a watch i would like one day to have in my collection. At the moment im looking for an Omega Seamaster, which i hope to own soon. I have to save my pennies and to be honest i will only be getting a pre owned one.

    Looks really smart ,,, I just dont know if Id love the unique patina of a bronze watch for what it is , or hate the fact Id like it to be shiny all the time , or not. A tough choice to have , but a nice problem to be stuck with.

    I love TAG Heuer Aquaracer but I can’t justify spending 3k on a watch when I can have CW of the same quality and with same movement for £800.
    That’s the problem with CW. It makes it obvious we are suckers.

    I really like the design of CW. I am considering buying my first entry level luxury watch and the only one I can afford is a tudor black bay which I really like. I like both watched equally design-wise but if I want in-house movement and history I have to go with the tudor. I also like some Oris watches but I believe Tudor ranks higher as more luxury brand. Any other suggestions on an entry luxury brand watch at around 3-4K?

    • @Sheepdog416
      @Sheepdog416 Před 11 měsíci

      Honestly, if you can afford the Tudor just get the Tudor. I bought my Bb58 in blue a year ago and I would not trade it down for anything. I was looking at Oris at first as well, but they are expensive for what they are Imo. You will not regret the black bay.

  • @RockLobster223

    Christopher Ward are like the Samsung of watch brands. They simply throw all sorts of variations and models/colours and occasionally tripe, at the market and try to see what sticks. And a lot their watches aren't in stock anyway, so it's all run a bit like a slightly quicker Kickstarter project.

  • @FullyLumed
    @FullyLumed Před rokem +1

    CW are really raising the bar for sub £1500 watches. That watch is so good looking that i think it could be considered ahead of some established watches at twice the price instead of just being considered if you can't afford a watch at twice the price.
