My Wife’s SUV gets a Cam and Tune! BAD IDEA?
Vložit
- čas přidán 7. 05. 2024
- Well my wife's 08 Yukon had a DOD/AFM lifter fail 8 months ago and it is time to finally get it fixed and back on the road. It has an all aluminum 5.3 L33 with flat top pistons, 799 heads, and the bread box intake manifold so you know a guy like me can't just tear down an engine like that without doing some modifications. Let's see how this LS responds to a bigger aftermarket Comp Cam, a Diablo Sport I3 tuner, and an exhaust modification.
If you want your own Comp Cam head over to compcams.com @Compcams1976
Here is a link to the tuner we used from Diablo Sport www.holley.com/account/wishli...

I'd like to take a moment and say a prayer for that 4L60E, may she live a long and prosperous life trying to keep up with Marge's right foot! 😂💯
Yes thank you
tylermartelle7041 ... look at your feet, Tyler. Now, which foot does the stomping on the gas? Think hard, Tyler, this isn't a trick question ... 🤣 ...
@@oscarwilde5473but, what if you're an amputee, no right foot? That obviously leaves a manual trans out of the question.
@oscarwilde5473 Marge might be a double footer, some people drive with both feet
@@Hbzprojects I drive automatics with two feet for two reasons. First, it's nice to have a foot hovering over the brake pedal, quickens response times a lot. Second, I grew up driving manual trannys so it feels awkward if I don't use my left foot to drive an automatic.
Happiness is finding a bonus sleeperdude video ❤❤❤
Thank you
@@sleeperdude2690 Definitely!
So very true
Its like Christmas
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Josh has the patience of a saint, when that water pump bolt broke most other mechanics would have thrown their tools across the driveway
I try not to get to bent out of shape
I am guilty of auto rage!❤
Patience is a great asset
I would've thrown it at the water pump.
That's the exact reason I couldn't do youtube videos of me working on vehicles I get too emotionally invested.
Ikr. I bet I've have chunked 14 complete sets of wrenches, into the tree rows over the last 25 years. 😂
Lots of Sleeperdude content this week. Appreciate you and the family.
Our pleasure!

Good thing Wawa got her license, Marge is going to loose hers!!

ROFLMAO 😂
We're seeing a new, matured Josh here. Had heads completely off, and did no porting whatsoever. 😂

You're the envy of all the men and boys watching who want to be like you, as well as the super hero to your loving wife and kids who depend on you. Good Job! 🎉

The wealth of knowledge in Josh’s head is priceless. Time & experience you can’t just skip ahead or replace.
Thanks for all your dedication to the channel.
Thank you that means a lot
But I do think I would have replaced the vc gasket.
Josh, you're a mechanical genius.
I'm about twice your age and learned a lot from you.
Wow thank you
👍👍👍👍👍👍
I love this generation of Yukons. Thank you Josh and Tosh! Whip that thing 😂
Thank you
Calm down Marge, this is exactly what the dealer does to solve the tic tic issue. Josh is well educated on what to do! Love it guys!

Sweet! Got off work early and got home to a surprise midweek sleeper dude episode!
Awesome hope you enjoy
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Another letter said you're saving money on labor by doing the work yourself, I blew the head gaskets out of my '01 Grand Marquis, and a friend of my brother's gave me a $3000 quote. Good Job!
Yes super expensive
4.6 a lot more complicated
I like how you fixed the exhaust leak by unbolting the exhaust. Brilliant!
👍👍👍

Excellent. A Sleeper Dude video on a Wednesday?! Excellent. Thank You Josh and Tosh and Family. Thank You. You made a tough week get so much better. God Bless You All and your Family and Friends and Animals. Love from Hebb's Cross Nova Scotia Canada.

If you don't get the squeaking stopped, it's the bearing in the water pump. Where you heated that water pump up, It burnt that water pump bearing
Maybe so
I was just getting ready to comment the same thing. Been there, done that
6:24 Josh I’m full on board with you say no more upgrade the injectors headers dual exhaust COME ON’

I appreciate your videos so much. I’m good now, but you, your videos, and your family has helped me get through some major depressions in the past.
"Just fix it so I can drive it." Seriously Marge, have you not watched this channel before?? 🤣🤣🤣 Strong work getting Marge up and running again!! Who doesn't love a good squeal in their engine? It'll be fine.
Exactly
Ah, more fun times with the Sleeperdude family!!!

Thank you
I have the night off! Pizza is in the oven, box of woppers, and some spruce beer soda... bring it, one of nicest family on the CZcamss.
I feel you about your Thermostat bolt, replaced all hoses etc on my Mark 7 . I said why not replace the Thermostat and housing. Bolt would not move , so I said no new Thermostat and housing! When you Bolt broke I said that could have been me ! You did great work getting it done, most people would have sent to the junkyard.
Great job guys. You are going to have to dock Rocky's pay Granny was working and he was hiding somewhere 😅😊❤
Exactly
Rocky off with his ladies! 😂
Sleeperdude in the middle.of the week. Well I'll be dipped, oh wrong person! Its impeccable!!
Thank you
An all Tennessee tuber meet? Derek and Josh?
Glad to see you got the Yukon running. I’m envious, wish mine sounded and ran that strong.
Always enjoy watching you get a vehicle back in service.
At work today saw a bad situation and said 'That's unfortunate ' laughter and thought of you!! Thanks 😊
So THAT'S WHAT'S been up with the Marge Barge!
Yep
Josh I just wanted to tell you my good friend his wife had the same truck tosh got he was getting engine lights cylinder 5 was over heating it’s a bad design from gm he had it looked at by his inspection guy he said them trucks had a over heating problem on cylinder 5 so they put a spoon type thing they sale it bolts to the end cap on the connecting rod so every time that spoon picks up oil it throws it up in the cylinder like on a Briggs n Stratton motor it worked for a little but he traded the truck in because the new motor was going to be over 5 grand I don’t even think it had a 100,000 miles on it maybe that spoon add on part you may of seen them before I just wanted to tell you before I forget good to see you all I need to watch this episode tonight after work god bless you guys this made my day this video thank you :)
Thank you
The face marge made when she started up was priceless. I have experienced that air pocket problem once. Took me a bit to figure it out.
I was so happy I turned on CZcams tonight and I saw that there was a sleeper dude on awesome I thought I was going to have to wait till Saturday what a great night this is thanks you guys for sticking one in there every now and then love y'all
Great! You've got the wagon and now the Yukon up and running. Wawa's car is done except for some cosmetics. Great job, Sleeperdude Crew! Don't throw away those parts, that's Ralphie art supplies! Ive had the steam vents plugged on my supercharged 5.3 swapped c10 for about 5 yrs now with zero issues…..just make sure you jack up the front passenger tire when your filling the cooling system so that it is properly burped of all and any air pockets
Ok thanks good tip
Gm even plugged some of the front ones from the factory, seen them in all sorts of combinations
Fact: Ralph was Dale Earnhardt SR 3 name. We see why a 10 yr old deserves a vette now? Great attitude, attention, and shared knowledge from Ralphie.
I love that you include the family in everything you do and love. I hope to be a great father just like you.
Ok Wawa...It's an unwritten rule , if you bring your Hot Chocolate in the shop a spoon is not allowed. Use a 10 mm Spanner !

Nice to see Squeezy getting all up in it on the parts washer. Always impressed by the way you guys just go with the flow and adapt to all the issues.
Great time again watch great video 👍
Thanks again!
Snuck this one in on us.. Impeccable. LOL
Hope you like it
I kept wondering where the Yukon had gone. I'll be facing the same job on my G8 some day. Nice to know it can be done without messing with the oil pump. Thanks for showing me the way!
You should have washed it before disassembly. I cannot believe you didn’t. It’s not only dirty with crap in the air that gets in your eyes and nose, it’s terrible protocol. It subjects disassembled parts to degradation caused by exposure to foreign impurities. A clean project is aesthetically more pleasing. But your knowledge of this project as you investigated is impressive. You are the real McCoy.
Thank you so much now today is great
You're welcome 😊
Ralph is tearing into this job with authority 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Yes he’s a good helper
is so nice to see a video of all of you in mid of the week and much better will get to see another one on the weekend and yes we should prey before Marge's drives that suv good job josh god blees u
😊😊😊😊
So happy for Marge! 😂
Happy Mother's day
I tried to think how much labor would have cost you 😵💫 ❤ your family and the channel 🙏🕊️
Just what led foot needs mire power lol
Exactly
@@sleeperdude2690 that vvt system is a joke my 2011 charger has that
Ralphie: It's leaking oil
Josh: That's factory
🤣🤣🤣
Nice job fixing the motor. You bright it back to life and gave it a nice sound. Don’t worry about the squeaky noise. If it’s anything serious you’ll find out soon. 😂
I usually associate that sound with a bad bearing on the power steering pump or a loose belt.
Thanks
Thanks for the surprise video. Prayers for you all.
let's go
Yes
Sleeperdude episode in the middle of the week. Pleasant surprise. Love watching you & your beautiful family.
Josh mentioning the wind whipping almost the exact same time I get a weather statement saying that we have a tornado watch in effect til 4am. Nice work guys! 💙🙏🏻
Hopefully it runs better, and I love the music that you have.. I loved the exspression on marges face when it first started up …great work josh ….
i had the afm lifter fail on my tahoe. got it all ripped part and the lift wasnt even collapsed. its been sitting in my backyard in pieces since 2022. from what i heard those plastic lifter trays can get worn. maybe ill try replacing that. great video like always. thanks for all the entertainment
Awesome job. Sounds great. Loved the look on Wawa's face as she looked at mom driving, 😂😂😂. I could hear her thinking "this woman is crazy " hahahaha. Love you all so much. Your videos always put a smile on my face. Thanks for sharing and I'll see you later.
I stopped halfway through mowed my yard real quick its been raining everyday nearly and came back in to watch the rest I sure hope that squeak gets fixed easily I am a bit worried and yall did such a great job is it good to have the exhaust off ? I am such a worry wart on these things Marge cracked me up extra 15 mins of sleep ha ha its so funny Josh is the slow driver It seems the rebuild worked great you will never be able to keep up with her in the beetle ❤I didnt realize the old girl was down for seven months It seems my dad a terrible mechanic said you need a certain amount of back pressure from the exhaust but you know lots more happy to see granny supervising she loves yall so much bless her heart. Thank you for sharing its Always a beautiful thing to see yall here and I love my glow in the dark keyring and the hat fits my noggin I too had a pretty big cap in the service , Josh I guess its all of that brain power we got huh 😂 ❤❤❤ love yall
Hylomar has been around forever, I remember my grandfather using it in England back in the 80 s and it being old school back then! Supposedly tried and true product!
Josh, I'm glad you got to work on the kid hauler 9000 and show us how to deal with one of the issues of this LS engine. A lot of us are driving these newer GM products, racking up the miles, and are wondering what can happen.
Marge's eyes popped open wide when she cranked it. Priceless reaction!
Love the goat sticker on the back window. Must be a Rocky special!!
Thanks for this worthwhile episode!
Awesome video!!! Really should've thought about doing the timing chain and oil pump brother 🤨🤨. Hope y'all have a blessed week!
Good Morning Josh. Very Well Done to You Achieving this Incredible Detailed Mechanical Engineering of this Beautiful SUV of Marges. I really liked your Step by Step Narration of the Process of Changing the Camshaft and replacing the Lifter. This is what a really Love about this Amasing Channel, Everybody who involved and Watching and Listening to what you are Showing and Teaching anyone who might need to know, what to do. I really did like the moment when Marge started the Engine, we heard that Incredible Roar from Exhaust System. She sounds really Awesome, to see Marge with a Big Smile on her Face was a Picture to see. So Lovely to see Ralphie, Wa Wa and Squeezy all getting Involved with this Excellents hands on Project that has taken this length of time. It was well worth the Hard Work, Effort, Strength, Determination, Grit and to Just carry on to Complete this Incredible and also Life Changing Stepping Stone that You Congquered, just like , if it was a Battle that the SLEEPER DUDE FAMILY!!!!! wanted to Fight and Win and become Successful in AMERICA!!!! of today 2024. I'm praying nothing horrible happens to my mom's car it's a 2019 chevy traverse with the 3.6l LFY W v6 with the 9T65 nine speed automatic but it does only have almost 33,000 miles on it because my family most of the time uses our other car which is a 2019 chevy bolt which had the battery replaced under the recall. When do drive our traverse we call a truck and we don't beat on it and it gets out of it's own way for having 310hp and awd when merging onto the highway. I'm in new jersey so most of our highway limits are 55 to 65. Love you guys content!
With a little perseverance and patience the Yukon is now a quicker grocery hauler!!! keep your drivers licence and registration handy Tosh and smile at the nice policeman LOL...that was a very informative video ...thanks for sharing your time with us...Karl from eastern Canada👍👍👍👍
SPEEDI UK .... I used to use Hylamar blue gasket sealant on anything that had a gasket joint seal I remember reading it was designed for aero engines ...there is a hylamar Red that hardens .... still loving your channel and the crazy mixture of content you all contribute into it
I have a 2001 Chevy Z71 4x4 that has 245,000 miles on the original 5.3 vortex and still idles as smooth as the day I drove it off the dealers lot.
Awesome
Back in the early 90’s I had dual exhaust put on my truck and my dad was so mad at me and I’ll never forget the conversation he had with me. He looked at me and said you know loud exhaust will blow up your engine and at that time I didn’t understand what he meant after the second engine I finally figured it out it wasn’t the exhaust it was my foot and my wanting to hear the exhaust lol.
great job, but im gonna add i hope those severe storms and tornadoes in tennessee this past week didnt affect ur family nor friends too badly,. as they were very deadly. perhaps ur next project that u n ur family can do that will influence others to do so as well is install an underground storm shelter on your property. youtube videos influences and impacts everyone whom watches them in many ways, if doing a video on a subject like this saves even one life, its more than worth it. yes its not a car or repair video, its more a potential life saving video, but i for one would watch it as im sure hundreds of thousands if not millions of others would as well. STAY SAFE Sleeperdude family, STAY SAFE everyone!
🤠🤠🤠Josh, as Gomer Pyle would say, "Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!!" Thanks for the extra vidja, hard work, patience, and gettin er done. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee, y'all.
Yes!!!!
Awesome job Fam !! Love the new sound. I really enjoyed this. Oh yea ………… i wonder if the new squealing sound is the water pump bearing and maybe it only started now because we heated it up to get the snapped bolt out. Just a thought. Thanks for all your hard work in keeping the awesome content coming ! (Seth from North Carolina)
Great job Josh, working on your personal stuff because it is broke is never much fun. But with the new performance mods it will be more fun to drive, so well worth the effort. Great video!
Last summer I had to do the same win my Hemi 5.7. Went with stage 2 comp cam. While I was in there I replaced the springs, did a valve job, DOD delete just like you. Then, added the Hellcat oil pump for better oil pressure. I had a buddy do the tuning for me. She runs strong.
You just made my week Josh with a 2nd mid week surprise video. First a pew pew review video (awesome) and now this one just over an hour!! It’s just what the doctor ordered lol. Favorite part when Ralphie says it’s leaking oil and you say.. that’s factory. I’m continuously impressed by Ralphie’s knowledge and attention to detail. Can’t wait for the next video. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome job. I had that same type of squeal on my '05 Avalanche. Turned out the front crackshaft pully had a wobble and replaced that then the squeal went away
Love watching each and every video and this one was awesome. You have a happy wife so you're having a happy life. Love the way it sounds.
I just bought the kit for my 08 it's got everything with the plate for around 425 going to install next week
Marge call'n for the "end days" on her SUV was so funny, I was thinking the same thing Marge! Those AMISH broke the engine mounts long before Marge got her. Fantastic job on the LS gang, she sounded good without the exhaust too! Really enjoyed this one. I had a 1995 Chevy Caprice with the LS-1, I loved that motor and she ran fast and good for a long time! I did use good oil and changed it every 3k my self!
Smart decision on getting rid of that troublesome cylinder de-activation nonsense. Even smarter decision on the camshaft upgrade. When those lifters go, they go in a bad way. At least it was only one of them. Great repairs!!!
I love the attention to detail you take. I had the same issue, getting hot, after I did the exact same thing to mine. VVT delete 550 cam kit from truck Norris. Ended up being an air pocket
😳
HOLIE MACCARONI!!!!!!!!!!! Y'all slipped in a Wednesday epi on me! Took me off guard! Ya sure did a great job a fixin' it tho! Kuddos!! Yeah, it's ole me here at Thrif-T body & paint in ol' Wyomin' Love Y'all! 💖
You better have the casing store number on speed dial, cause those " Poor Casings don't have a chance" !! Great Job and sounds FANTASTIC !!!!!!!!!!
I hate you had to deal with that. General Motors has had a very serious problem with that for years and hadn’t done anything about it and the Duramax diesel are so bad about breaking the crankshafts I have never in my life. Glad you got it fixed though brother.
Nice work ! Watching the expressions on Wawa's face when Tosh is driving is PRICELESS !!!!!
Watched the episode that look on tosh’s face on start up with that new sound was epic lololol loved it .
I had the same problem with my wife’s Denali and if you get coolant on the belt you need to replace it it will not stop winning
Solid work! I had a airpocket PITA recently as well similar issue.
Who remembers when you could sit or stand in the engine bays while working on motors. Seeing Mr Josh standing there brought back memories
The good old days
Thanks for showing this. It's very unfortunate that this happens on so many ls engines. There's are supposedly several class actions lawsuits against G. M. because of this. This will eventually happen to all dod engines from 2008 till current. I knew when you said Marge's GMC was broken, I knew it was the dod. What is the mileage on Marge's GMC.?. What a pain . Thanks for showing this Josh. You guys are the best. I don't miss a episode. Great Job. I just put a water pump on my neighbors Ford ranger . I thought about Ralphie . He needs to change his mind on those trucks. It was a pain and then it had a squeaky belt. He said it's always done that. I put a gator back Goodyear belt on and the squeak was gone. Try a new belt , don't use a cheap duralast belt. I bet the squeak will be gone.
hey Josh,
did some work on an LS motor here in Australia and it started squeaking too, changed the belt and idlers, and still kept squeaking, changed the water pump and still kept squeaking, so i tried a trick and old mechanic told me...
get a bar of soap and hold it against the belt on both the inside and outside while the engine is running....
and sure enough it stopped squeaking, results do seem to vary though, sometimes it stops squeaking completely, sometimes it only stops it squeaking for a short while and then you can do the soap trick again. anyways could be worth a shot.
keep up the great work and content mate, love it!
Mate.... engine infoward position. Is a blessing.
Side on . What a pain.
God bless
For sure
Thanks for the video! With all of the projects you guys do, have you thought about getting an air lift, to fill cooling systems under vacuum? I bought one years ago and use it for all of my projects now. Pull a vacuum and test for leaks as well. No waiting for t stat to open.
