    M. K. Stalin
    is an Indian politician from Tamil Nadu.
    He was the 37th Mayor of Chennai from 1996 to 2002 and 1st Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 2009 to 2011.
    Stalin is the third son of 3rd Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and DMK Chief M. Karunanidhi, and was born to his second wife, Dayalu Ammal. Stalin completed his graduation in history from The New College, Chennai in University of Madras.
    Stalin became the Minister for Rural Development and Local Administration in the Government of Tamil Nadu after the 2006 Assembly elections. On 29 May 2009, Stalin was nominated as Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu by Governor Surjit Singh Barnala.
    Political career
    M. K. Stalin was born in Madras, now Chennai, on 1 March 1953. He was named after Joseph Stalin, who died four days later.
    His political career began when, as a 14 year old, he campaigned in the 1967 elections.
    In 1973, Stalin was elected to the General committee of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
    He came to limelight when he was jailed under Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) for protesting against the Emergency.
    Stalin has been elected four times to the Tamil Nadu Assembly since 1989 from the Thousand Lights constituency in Chennai. Stalin became the city's first directly elected Mayor in 1996.
    M. Karunanidhi
    was an Indian writer and politician who served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for almost two decades over five terms between 1969 and 2011. He was a long-standing leader of the Dravidian movement and ten-time president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam political party.
    He has also made contributions to Tamil literature, having written stories, plays, novels, and a multiple-volume memoir. He was popularly referred to as Kalaignar, meaning artist in Tamil.
    Karunanidhi died on 7 August 2018 at Kauvery Hospital in Chennai after prolonged, age-related illness.
    C. N. Annadurai
    was an Indian politician who served as 1st Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for 20 days in 1969 and fifth, and last Chief Minister of Madras from 1967 until 1969 when the name of the state of Madras was changed to Tamil Nadu. He was the first member of a Dravidian party to hold either post.
    He was well known for his oratorical skills and was an acclaimed writer in the Tamil language.
    He scripted and acted in several plays. Some of his plays were later made into movies. He was the first politician from the Dravidian parties to use Tamil cinema extensively for political propaganda.
    Born in a middle-class family, he first worked as a school teacher, then moved into the political scene of the Madras Presidency as a journalist. He edited several political journals and enrolled as a member of the Dravidar Kazhagam. As an ardent follower of Periyar E. V. Ramasamy, he rose in stature as a prominent member of the party.
    Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam
    is a state political party in the state of Tamil Nadu and Union Territory of Puducherry.
    It is a Dravidian party founded by C. N. Annadurai in 1949 as a breakaway faction from the Dravidar Kazhagam (known as Justice Party until 1944) headed by Periyar E. V. Ramasamy. Since 1969, DMK has been headed by M. Karunanidhi until his death on 7th August 2018.
    He has served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu five times. It was the first party other than the Indian National Congress to win state-level elections with a clear majority on its own in any state in India. Head office of the party is called as Anna Arivalayam, located at Anna Salai, previously called as Mount road, Teynampet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu ,India
