Why Apple Autocorrects 'omw' to 'On my way!'
Vložit

- If you’ve tried letting someone know that you’re on your way with a quick omw text on an iPhone, you were probably surprised to see the abbreviation autocorrect to ‘on my way’ with an explanation point. This is caused a lot of frustration. Since people who typically abbreviate their messages don’t want to sound that enthusiastic about something so mundane. Plus, other text abbreviations like lol or smh don’t autocorrect to ‘laughing out loud’ or ‘shaking my head.’

I play Minecraft and I work with command blocks frequently. Text replacement is a godsend, because I don't have to remember those long and precise commands.
this is real, i will type “build_house” and it will type out a real long string that will build me a house
SAME. I’ve made `{place` expand to `{“minecraft:can_place_on”:{“blocks”:[“”]}}`, (for items with JSON parameters) `//vision` expand to `/effect @p night_vision 99999 1 true`, (for night vision) and `.traw` expand to `/tellraw @a {“rawtext”:[{“text”:””}]}` (for the tellraw command)
You're playing on Mac? That's cool how macOS is giving you an advantage in programming command blocks over Windows. Not that it wouldn't be easy to create a similar solution for Windows users.
@@SonicXRage I play on MCPE, but yeah. It's interesting that Minecraft players on Apple devices have an advantage over their Microsoft counterparts, because of this one little feature.
@@SonicXRage That isn't just on iphone. That feature exists on almost all devices that you can type messages and stuff.

Last I checked you can also add words or phrases without an abbreviation, so when you start typing it you will get the option to autocomplete. I think it’s helpful for unusual names or jargon that usually get autocorrected to something else.

The funny thing is that this feature is present for other dictionaries as well, and I found it relatively quickly after switching to iPhone. The abbreviation is not used in my native language but the two letters are commonly used in longer words, so it's easy to stumble upon this feature when typing slowly. It's for a similar phrase as well, and only for that one. I always wondered why this one in particular, especially since the phrase is not that popular to begin with. But it served it's purpose, I learned about the feature quickly, but anyway, never added own abbreviations
Bro unintentionally just made the best tutorial ever
On My Way is the achievement you get in Geometry Dash when you beat back on track on practice mode, it gives you a cool blueish color
I think it is fixed, instead of it saying “On my way” it says “I am deeply concerned, dear, that you have a disease. May god bless you my dear.”
I use text replacement feature to express irregular verbs in the preterite in Spanish. For example, if the word conducí is typed, apple can sometimes autocrrect it to conduje. The former is commonly misinterpreted as the yo form in the preterite, but it is actually the voseo form in the present tense. The main purpose of text replacement on apple devices is to autocorrect mistyped Spanish verb conjugations.
I personally love this feature and I’ve got a huge list in there for all my text replacement so I can I out the jumble of letters and have it come out looking professional still and actually readable. I once used this feature to pass my coding exam. We all knew what we need to learn for this exam but this was just too much and I didn't want to remember everything, but luckily I could write the code on my mac during the exam. So I just binded the whole code we needed to learn to some shortcut like "qrtw" or something like that, and then just typed that when the teacher wasn't looking. After few simple tweaks everything worked just fine :))
Suggestion: why keyboard clicks suddenly become loud

that actually worked- wow- but there’s times where the keyboard is like- WAY WAY LOUDER
I use a lot of text replacement because I hate abbreviations.

We should make a video or article about text replacements for abbreviations like "lol" or "afk", so that we can ensure a good future of English. @rachelsenglish 👀

No idea why this needed an entire video
Because this is the Apple Explained channel and although I already use the feature, I didn’t know why Apple included omw, so I found it interesting. If you don’t care about quick and simple explanations, maybe this channel isn’t for you. Have a day. 😊
@@ArbysMom no I like the channel and he makes quite informative videos sometimes. Just other times he makes videos like this that are equivalent to a 2 second google search.
@@jimjamjon2285 Considering over 1,000 people liked it in three hours, I’d say why this needed an entire video was because people found it informative and/or interesting. If you don’t, fine. Just move along. 😊
@@ArbysMomBruh why are being like this? They outright said they like the channel, they are literally just offering some constructive criticism regarding content. "The number of likes" doesn't mean it's good. Brainrot memes and clickbait videos gets millions of views, does that make it quality content? I'm not trying to be a white-knight for an internet stranger, but god, I seriously cannot stand the whole "if you don't like, don't watch" mentality...how tf was I supposed to know if liked the video or not before watching it?? The title of this video made the reason sound way more interesting than just being automatically replaced text. I mean ffs, any good content creator will accept constructive criticism on their videos. Going off your logic "If they don't like it, they can disable comments". So tired of this logic fr
@@catsinskates In my opinion, "No idea why this needed an extra video" isn't constructive criticism. It's one thing for someone to say that they don't like the video, but to say it's not needed just because they personally have no use for it is not constructive. And I mentioned that this got likes, not views, which are not the same thing. And I never said "if you don't like, don't watch" because of course you can't judge a video before watching. So that's twice you've twisted what I said. The original comment I replied to said "No idea why this needed an entire video" and I gave a reason why, and suggested that if they weren't into that kind of video, maybe this channel wasn't right for them. When they replied that these videos are the equivalent to a 2 second google search, I expanded on my initial response of why this "needed" an entire video. My point was that despite the fact that a 2 second google search would give the answer, the video was more interesting, and I defended the creator so they'd keep making videos like it, as I got more out of this video than a google search does. When I need a "how to" for something, I actually prefer a text answer, but this was more than just "how to" and that's why I'm a subscriber. There are plenty of HOW Apple tips and tricks channels but this one goes into WHY. And then your "logic" about disabling comments... this logic is in your head, not in what I said. Maybe reread my comments from the perspective of me showing that I like these videos the way they are, and that I *do* find them needed, because they're interesting.

Not going to lie, that is a pretty awesome way of pushing folks towards looking into a feature. Unfortunately Apple didn’t take into account the large amount of people who would sooner work around a problem than spend a few minutes searching the internet for a solution
Fun fact: You can bypass text replacement and autocorrect by typing an extra character after your word, then deleting it and pressing space.
eg. Typing omww, then delete the extra w and press space, and it won’t change it.
I’ll be honest. Before this feature, I never even knew that “omw” was even a thing.

0:52 Amazon Kindle does that to this day… I freaking hate that. Sometimes a well placed swear word can do a lot for a good joke, but “duck” doesn’t fit the context, and “ducking” doesn’t make any sense.
Also, my Kindle would autocorrect Cat to Car, making stupid comments like “I love my pet car.” Even Apple knows this is stupid, because my phone tried to correct me to cat. Lol
I love this feature. Use it for my email addresses and some specific hard to find symbols. But I would prefer if it was able to discern between lower case letters and uppers case letters. If you type oMw or Omw the same prompt will result.
I did had that question too with the Portuguese word “Estou Indo” witch has the same meaning of on my way
Pro tip: If you have a word that you type frequently but the autocorrect keeps ffing it up, add it to the text replacements with no shortcut and it will no longer autocorrect it
