I think more businesses need to shut down and move out of the city so these politicians get off their asses and start enforcing the laws. We've been too soft on crime and have made this city too inviting for homeless to live off our tax dollars. I don't mind giving a helping hand in need but you really can't keep giving handouts indefinitely. There has to be a timeline given for people receiving welfare or whatever assistance there is to get off whatever drugs they're on, look for a job, and get off the assistance. If the person does find a job but tries to game the system by quitting to get back on assistance then provide assistance by calculating how long they've held onto the job. If they've worked 30 days then that should be credit for 2 days to a week for further assistance if they lose their job.

No one wants to be inhuman to another person, but things have been out of control for such a long time in this city. It's not normal and even though the same thing is happening in various cities throughout the US, we should never call it normal and no amount of financial inequality should be used as an excuse and justification for what is going on. As an Australian I grew up dreaming of traveling to see the United States, Golden State Bridge being one spot.
Is this still a good idea? Or I am safer here with the spiders, snakes emus ETC.

Visit between December and March. The street bums thin out a bit when the weather gets cold and rainy. They go indoors to city provided shelters until the sun starts getting warm again in April. Also, don't skimp on your hotel. Investigate and make sure your hotel doesn't have any SRO single room occupancy tenants, (paid by the city). I've seen tourists stay in a hotel near where I live with some crazy addicts smoking meth with a two liter butane torch, throwing trash out the window and living like animals. The rooms are cheap yeah, but you're staying in the same hotel as the neighborhood meth/fetty dealer. Not good!

You can drive over the bridge with no need to spend any time n SF. Rental vehicles will get broken into there. I suggest to drive across the bridge and stop at one of the lookouts on the other side, where you'll have great views. From there, drive up to Napa valley. Just don't stop anywhere in SF, and never leave anything of value in your rental car.

Its getting to the point where that entire city will be unsustainable, there wont be any stores at all anymore which will drive everyone out and only criminals will remain unless some major changes are done

I used to shop at that store. I stopped going there about 4 years ago. At that time they were double-checking everyone leaving like they do at Costco. I started going to the Marina store.

NOOOOOO!!!! That was the closest one to where I live... It's such a pain in the as to get to any of the other ones in the city. Sure Church and Market is one bus ride away, but I already have to take the bus there so having to now transfer on the way back home especially when I have ice cream. They're definitely right that a large part is the crime aspect since there's always people coming from areas where they camp just beyond Van Ness trying to steal what they can either because they can't afford it after spending most their money on whatever shit they're buying from the areas they're camping in or to try to flip a profit to buy more shit. This just really sucks as I have difficulties traveling due to chronic pain issues that go untreated due to chronic pain being stigmatized so this is just going to make my life that much more difficult in every regard.

Me visiting SF 10 years ago: this crime is way out of hand. Typical response from locals: "People are poor and are only taking things to survive, the businesses have insurance. Damn, you have a cold heart and are an asshole." Me: Have a nice day. Bye.

I hope this housing project has alot of affordable housing. That is what the city needs. The city doesn’t need more market rate housing.

sf “affordable housing” is making 300,000$ a year per household. those low income housing are jokes cuz they raffle them off for a good rate but don’t tell the poor people that they will now have a monthly HOA that’s around $1000 a month and can raise even more as the HOA seems fit.
