The coolest part of the story of Lauda Flight 4 is how niki lauda basically tricked boeing into admitting that the thrust reverser caused the crash by calling their bluff and insisting that they allow him too fly a 767 set up too suffer the failure.
They refused by saying "but you could die" and he had his answer.
Did anyone see Shang chi as air traffic control
huh?
@@bxbygotsmoove 33:00
Yeah
Yes XD
Yup
I'm gonna spaz out because noone is mentioning Simu Liu acting as an ATC worker. He's right there y'all. 33:00
Indeed “noone”. 🙄🙄😒🙄🙄😒😒🙄🙄
LMAO I only clicked on this to see this comment
Holy crap there are others who noticed lol.

Yeah, you "laugh now," smarty pants 🤔🤨
I do that too!
I love how this video translates the languages from different countries to English so that we can understand about airplane crashes. Also, Rest In Peace to all victims of any plane crashes. We will miss you.
All CZcams videos do that
@@WaynePryce not all
the subtitles are terrible , many words are wrong
@@evenbiggerthanthat So you’re saying you don’t want non-English speakers to understand these documentaries?

Much needed light humor! Great comment my friend! Lolol 😂😊😅

Did anyone notice Shang Chi is the ATC here😂
I did
It’s so great to see huge channels like Wonder and Smithsonian making hour-long compilations of air crash investigations!
I love watching these types of videos to be honest

Fr tho why
33:32 is that you Shang-Chi?! 👁👄👁
There is a reason why his face is on the thumbnail
Who would have thought that his face going to be a clickbaiter for this kind of channel when he started, right? 😅
@@izzfp9802 prolly the thumbnail has been updated after massive success of Shang Chi and the legend of the ten rings.

Did he just say nikki is the best known austrian since mozart? Lmaoooooo
oops Sorry 😅 😂
who's gonna tell him 💀
I actually remember the fed ex m 11 crash one on the news, after i checked out some following new details over a few days, in the back of y mind i kept thinking, these circumstances sound similiar to some of the md-11s previous accident history and than it was shown to be true. I still can't believe it happened as it was totally preventable :(
Omg Simu Liu is in the thumbnail😂
Simu Liu on the thumbnail...I see what you did there haha

Never board a plane if you see a Smithsonian camera man on board
wtf 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
Air traffic controller here: ATC will never "clear" a aircraft to deviate from a route. Saying cleared is used for permission to land or depart and that those surfaces are free of obstructions. The ATC can not verify if the new route is clear and will therefore say approved instead. The correct phrasing is "aircraft ID, heading deviation approved, turn left heading 090 then climb and maintain fl xxx, report next 30 or arrival next, how copy?".
Also atc will never ever say "over" at the end of a message. That's a movie thing.
Rest in peace Pilots Who have tried their best salute to People who didn’t make it home.

"This is my first plane crash." Bless her heart. 😢
Ok so lesson learned: Get the hell off the plane if there's a Smithsonian camera man
Also first air 6560, because the captain falsely believed that the autopilot is still guiding them to runway, when in fact, the captain's yoke movement switched it to manual automatically. Not only that, there were poor communications and a flaw in the GPWS since it only goes off too late and a strong wind drifted the plane further to the right.
Lol you just spoke a different language to many many people haha!!
I was part of the Navy diving team that resurrected the bodies and plane of the JFKjr incident. Crazy times indeed.
Geez everybody is a hero on utube or a utube hero
@@RobertJamesChinneryH Have you ever been at a crash site? You have to be a of a very special breed of human being to cope with it. Doesn't matter if it's a plane or a bus or a ship. I worked as a first responder for a few years and then started to sail in naval ships where I encountered ships and boats in distress and a single helo crash with no survivors. The worst thing about the helo crash was that it happened in very shallow water where we could actually maintain position right above it and see all 3 occupants in the cabin. And they were all looking almost unharmed, but even through the distortion of the water, the horror on their faces were manifest because they were so close to the surface. (we never did find out why none of them managed to leave the helo which seemed to have been a distinct possibility due to the relative impression of an intact cabin and unhurt or only slightly hurt occupants by the look of it, but as a naval ship and not part of the investigative or recovery team, we were never told what happened during the crash and the seconds leading up to their demise).
Even when you are prepared for unpleasant images and smells, such a crash site and the images of the deceased is a very somber and disturbing sight. So what the divers saw and had to deal with in the waters of Martha's wineyard had to have been a harrowing experience. And that is the reality of navy guys working on ships. They get to see all the stuff that you don't in your safe little cubicle of land, but most people never really hear about it because it is out of sight and mind, almost as silent as the life and operations of submariners lives. So, yeah. Navy divers are heroes doing the dangerous and unpleasant work you never see. I know that to be a fact.
Sember fidelis, vladimirpoutine.
I was a pro athlete in the 1970's.
I used to fly on Continental often. 727's. Then, on the newer 747's, or DC-10's.
Never again. The maintenance crews are unconcerned, and not highly trained.
My dad was a small fixed wing pilot, and bought new planes, Bonanza, Piper, Cessna. and Mooney. He always did as much on his planes as possible, and always used the same tech. He flew out of El Monte, and often flew to Big Bear, to his vacation cabin. He took safety very seriously. I can't fault him for that. There are no road shoulders, pullout lanes, or pullouts, for airplanes.
What sport
Good job 👍 to the camera men on the airplanes, they managed to get the clips online!
2:41
Captain: Flaps one please
F/O: (pulls flaps to 15 and there's no such a notch marked "1")

Was looking for this comment.
Yeah obviously. We’re just hear too see the crashes
I’ve already seen almost all plane crash investigation documentaries here on YT and this is by far the newest compilation I’ve seen. Great job Smithsonian!
🤩🤩👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I watch your videos because if I get into a plane crash and I survive I know what the pilots were going through before they crashed
How does that help?
It I got into a plane crash i would rather die than survive because wherever it is there will be no food so I will just die after a few hours or days
Thats freaking Shang Chi, the Master of Kung Fu…. He’s overqualified for ATC!!!
Alright
big mad respect to the cameraman who died and came back to life to record these crashes
Lol
Love watching this while on an airplane
10:30 thats some cool music 😎😎😎😎
I can’t believe Niki Lauda Formula One driver made his own aeroplane commercial and it’s destroyed😂😂
Yeah but How Ended the story ?! Suddenly there came a new story from brazil 😮 . Or are they connected and i am Not yet far enough in the video ?
the narrator's voice is what makes these documentaries more thrilling and interesting to me ...like the narrator of Forensic files ,not sure if its not the same buh medical detectives too
Always enjoy your videos. The amount of Insight that you put into these videos explains the "What Happened" aspect even a novice like myself can understand. You definately keep my mind occupied and I rarely drift . I think most of us know someone who has survived and or died in a Plane crash.
Thank you so much for all you do .
Never knew flight 80 be on here🛫🛬❤️
RIP pilots😭❤️❤️😭😭
Love these compilations but hate where one ends and the next starts… I find myself looking for the entire episode to figure what the ending is lol
Bruh you got a potential Avenger who is working that day, sees a plane get taken down to hell, and still not give a shit.

I couldn't help but notice a slight irony in that you showed the Mexico City and Cork disasters right after each other since both cases were about pilots with no legit education and certification to fly the aircraft they were operating, let alone carry passengers who trusted them to know their jobs to the letter. May all of them rest in peace.

A plane on fire is the perfect thing to see before you get on a plane
That’s Kim’s connivence guy who also starred in Shang Chi at 33:00!!! Guess you gotta start somewhere
This Smithsonian team is smart af. Changed the thumbnail of this video to accommodate the smaller role played by Shang Chi, aka Simu Liu, to gain more views.
33:01 That's the actor from my favorite movie Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings💜💜💜💜😍👍 Such a great great movie👍
It's puzzling how a plane crash in the modern day ages can happen, you have all your instruments and Warning systems.
Its the other way round, if you know physics, engineering, you would not build planes with these amount of uncertainities, faults at all. Same goes for cars, trains as well. The systems appear safer than average consumer thinks.
Also, a lot of commercial airplanes are freakin old as all get out. I wish they replaced them more often. These companies have sooo much money. It shouldn’t be too difficult. Also, from what I’ve seen here, the pilots nowadays don’t really know how to fly the planes. Computers do everything now. Among many other factors. I am avoiding writing a novel as a reply lol. Don’t come for me please. This is just my observation. You will not catch me on any planes nowadays for obvious reasons. Also, bc I have flown a lot as a kid. I feel like over tested fate enough lol…
Y’all take care up there!!
Wait how can a fedex plane (that is also just probably just an inch from touchdown) flip 90 degrees to the left?
It bounced if u can see so that bounce must've caused it to flip
The gear collapsed
@@bartskinthepro3138 that too
Hard landing, Causes plane to bounce as it is the design fault due to which it lands at higher speeds, Pilot fatigue, he was sleepy and did not flare at a right time, hard landing, Plane bounces, No one in the cockpit notices the plane bounced and push the nose down, bounces again and higher, slams to ground higher the landing limit of landing gear, left landing gear collapses causing to to roll sideways, crash, Adding to this is the wind shear.
@@lavanyachella6515 use commas next time it makes it easier to read lol
Did the pilot who made a "honest mistake " get to keep his job or was he fired?
Pilots can't make any mistakes so he probably got fired. People's lives are in your hands
Shaun is up here grinding
52:29 Fun fact: Obama was elected that night, I still have some fuzzy little memories about that.
Love your videos
RIP for those who didn't make it
Knowing what we know now.. I think aborting after V1 would have been the best option for the Concorde. Yeah it would have ran off the end of the runway. But that airport (Charles de Gaulle) has a very very long field at the end of the runway (about 3000 feet of grass) then a highway that sits down a small hill and more farm land.
3000ft wouldn't have been enough to get the aircraft on the ground and stopped, and due to the fact its an uneven field the aircraft would have suffered structural failure, and more than likely killed everyone onboard too.
its not as easy as saying "Oh he could have aborted"
Had not seen the VARIG or the FIRST AIR episodes... Cheers
