Beverly is the woman that married and sang with John Martyn. You hear her on Simon and Garfunkel's "Fakin' It" and she was on the cover of the first Paul Simon album.
"Sand and Foam" is a masterpiece. One of the best songs he ever composed. This concert is Donovan at his absolute peak. After the 1960s his style changed completely.
Right before Led Zeppelin, there was Donovan. There are boundless stories. But at the end of the day a good portion of what would be Zeppelin were at minimum listening on those sessions. But we all know. Listen to Get Thy Bearings.. Like a Can groove.....still decades before its time.
Wow!! Spectacular audio & video quality for 1967. The title of the first song is Sand and Foam (not Mexico) ... one of the greatest early Donovan songs in my humble opinion
Both Guinevere and Sand & Foam were released on the UK version of the Sunshine Superman album (1967). There's a live version of Guinevere on Donovan in Concert (1968), probably with the same band on this video
One of my favorites. Right up there with Celeste. I am not a guitar player, just mess around a bit, but was able to pull this song (Sand & Foam) off with Em and C chords only. Seeing him play it live, I wasn't that far off.
It;s kind of funny although DOnovan;s best song Season of The Witch has been a hit by many people this is the only xisting vintage 9560;s performance known to exist.

There are many 1960s Donovan recordings on CZcams.
Wow! I've been a lifelong Donovan fan, but this is my first time to hear his song for Beverly, my name! My mind is often out at sea, too. So was he in many of his great songs. What's wrong with that? :-)

I absolutely love, love this song "Sand & Foam" My God, what a beautiful magical voice. Love his very folky songs the most.

Yes, it's a masterpiece.
So sad that we didn't have more prolific recordings of these premier 60's folk and rock artists. This is a treasure.
In the year sorry that this was released l, I learned and played most of his tunes. Many decades later, thoughts of my youth are recalled, "colors"
There are early recordings of Donovan all over CZcams.
Donovan taught this finger-picking technique to John Lennon when they were in India. You can hear it clearly in "Dear Prudence" and "Julia"
And Donovan learned it from Derroll Adams.
And Jack Elliot ❤
wonderful. a golden age that almost was. Donovan, our Avatar.
This is awesome! Love the golden era live Donovan! Thanks so much for sharing!
That was maybe the greatest thing I ever saw in my life. Unbelievable. The ultimate dream Weaver. 🙏
"The Tinker and the Crab" is a lovely song. The first one I learned to play and sing from "Gift from a Flower to a Garden".

So good to still have footage from the Scottish wizzard.
Wow!! Spectacular audio & video quality for 1967. The title of the first song is Sand and Foam (not Mexico) ... one of the greatest early Donovan songs in my humble opinion
Wow again!! Guinevere!! Another of his greatest mid 60s songs ... but unfortunately only one verse of a much longer song.
Both Guinevere and Sand & Foam were released on the UK version of the Sunshine Superman album (1967). There's a live version of Guinevere on Donovan in Concert (1968), probably with the same band on this video
It was first titled "Mexico" then changed to "Sand and Foam".
At this time I thought the two coolest people in the world were Donovan and Brian Jones. I was right!
And Donovan became Brian's son's stepfather. His daughter married the lead singer of the Happy Mondays.
Sweet Beverly - hear a 1/2 dozen D tunes soon to blossom out of Sweet Beverly 💞

Sweet Beverly about Beverley Martyn, with whom he was in a love triangle with Bert Jansch

you are replying to a 4 year old comment,.,.and there is only one other Season of the witch clip[ to surface from the 60's..
his best song? It's a good song but there's plenty of songs, some even on the same album, I would rank high above it

Sweet Beverly demo is on the Barabajagal c.d. as a bonus track.

Sailin' on a summer breeze
And skippin' over the ocean like a stone

My God! Look how few views, compared to all the horrible junk on You Tube! What a shame!
Spread the word ... anyone who can't remember the 60s will love this!!
