To all people wondering, these outtakes from Abbey Road came to light on the 1978 LP "No. 3 Abbey Road N.W. 8". I'm definitely not the one who exhumed it. The Post Card Sessions were previously on CZcams before being removed a couple months ago due to a copyright claim.
Beautiful Donavon and gorgeous Paul, two beautiful men with wonderful songs, such cool cats!! This is lovely, I love them. ❤ I love when Paul says “we’re nice people too”, Paul singing about Heather, his adopted daughter, so sweet, Paul is such a great dad and Granddude!❤
"Heather" has the same chords as "Great Day", a song that was written approx. in that period, and later published on "Off the Ground" (1992)
Amazing Donovan and McCartney jam, they sound great together
This is so beautiful 😭 something about this music feels like it nestles in all the cracks of your soul that have desperately needed healing for a long time.
sooooo true, most of donovan's music does this for me :)
This was the most healing and relaxing thing I’ve heard in years. What a shame these guys never did anything together
McCartney sang backing vocals on Donovan’s Mellow Yellow.
@@KimSeniorI think he meant more than that, and I’ve heard that story, but his involvement with Mellow Yellow was incidental at best, if not a myth.
I guess they actually diis some music together un Postcard. The opening song is the three of them, Paul and Donovan playing awesome low tuned guitars and Mary singing...
Paul also sang background vocal for Donovan on song Atlantis. You can certainly recognize Paul's voice.
Amazing Donovan and Paul McCartney
Paul is seriously the master. I have new songs to learn
Nice sounding Guild acoustic. An underated guitar!!
They are very polished-sounding guitars! And Guild has always made about the best 12-string acoustic you can buy in a store.
This represents Donovan's style and songs from his underrated double LP set 'HMS Donovan', which was recorded from '68 thru '71 and released in '71. It has mostly children's songs and 'nursery rhyme' sort of material, including his unequalled versions of Jabberwocky and The Walrus and The Carpenter. If you're interested in Donovan, check out those recordings; some of them are fantastic.
Love Paul and Donovan. ❤❤Both men are fantastic musicians.Incredibly talented. 🤗🤗😊😊👍👍
30 seconds in, and I'm smiling ear-to-ear. Two of the best to ever do it.
These two sound so great together

Electric bill: Paul McCartney & Donovan - Post Card Sessions (1968)
More and more hidden Gems appear... wonderful !
That guitar is remarkably in tune
Wow! What a lovely surprise! Music to my ears👃🤗🥰 Exquisite!👌
I haven't heard this is years. I had this bootleg LP in the 80's. Many stoned nights listening to this. I think on the flipside was John Lennon and Syd Barrett doing "What A Shame Mary Jane" and some other psychedelic stoned meanderings.
Apparently, this was a sound-check for Mary Hopkin's studio recording of the Donovan songs. You can hear her singing softly on Blackbird.
Just lovely...especially Heather
Where has this been hiding for 53 years? Gentle, dreamy and beautiful; wonderful find. Great version of Lalena and it sounds like the first song, How do you do? shouldn't have been laid aside. I think there's something there.
Yes, there was something there--it was the 60's and a couple of lads were having some good fun!
In the shadows. Lennon asked him to help with Julia, John described him mum & Donovan essentially wrote it. He also "helped" with Blackbird. There's a clip of that somewhere. Same Indian trip.
@@puckf17he didn’t help with Blackbird. Paul did it himself while watching Donovan teach John guitar picking
@puckf17, Donovan helped Paul learn this particular type of fingering on guitar. Paul wrote the words & melody to Blackbird.
Masterpiece off the cuff!
I like the fact that he has a guitar while sitting under a sign that says "silence zone"
Amazing what they may have did together in India.
Paul was into meditation and now he’s into yoga and gets a massage every morning.
Since I was young, and my mom printed the wiki page for the Beatles song list, Heather was one i was curious about. Still cool to hear Heather here during this session
Wow, Paul is so stoned
This is great.
A wonderful treat to hear this. Thanks.
Wow ! The jam between Donovan and Paul on Donovan's song Lalena from about the 6:30 mark to about 8:30 mark for two minutes is astounding ! The lead guitar Paul is accompanying with to Donovan's song is amazing ! Where have these nuggets been hiding ?
Totally agree. It's thehighlight of this recording, utterly beautiful!
Check out Paul’s performance of India on CZcams. Beautiful song. Haunting
Omg Heather is pure gold what a perfect little nothing from Paul
Heather reminds me the little Paul's song at the end of Cry Baby Cry : Can You Take Me Back 🤔.
Another great collaboration jam is at the 9:30 mark where Donovan and Paul sing something called Heaven until the 11:20 mark and again, it's astounding the both of them singing and playing. Man, i wish Donovan and the Beatles wiuld have collaborated on some sings to produce in the studio, would have been brilliant ! I know they assisted on bit parts in songs, but a full on collaboration as indicated by hiw well they played here, would have been so cool.
The song is Heather, and it's about Paul's adopted daughter. (Linda's daughter)
@@ExplodingPsyche - Well, thanks, didn't know the song was called Heather, appreciate the insight.
@@pauledwards3992 You're welcome.
Thanks So Much!!!!!!!
Great Content!!!!!!!!!!
God Bless!!
It sounds like me and my dad late at night smoking pot and drinking wine having a giggle… We’re all the same after all
Awesome and a lot better than I would have suspected. I don't think the sections with poor audio distract at all. It was never meant to be a studio release, they're goofing, probably stoned, just having fun. Paul brought out the best in everyone, it seems.
probably? If that photo was taken at the session i would say Paul is pretty well baked, though still pretty tanned from the India trip.
He's red as a beet! Tan, don't burn, use Coppertone!@@hammer44head
I’m glad this tape exists so that people who say Paul as of late made up his Blackbird story can now shut the up.
I thought he'd made it up, too! He was referring to the riots. Don't riot, folks. Yet, he has claimed that because he used the 'N' word once in a great while as a youth, that he was a racist. Does anyone here really believe Paul's a racist? Intent is the issue. Both sides use that word. Paul wants to be loved by everyone, it's his biggest chain around his neck in his life. Also an asset, if used properly. He's a good man, the personal testimony is universal, and he doesn't need to pose as one, as 80% of Notables do today, and probably always have. Actions speak much louder than words.
@@FlipDahlenburg I’ve never heard Paul call himself a racist. I’m a Beatles and McCartney fanatic. I listen to everything and read all the books. People just make crap up. Like John NEVER SAID that Ringo was even the best drummer in the Beatles but people keep repeating it. Why don’t people fact check before they repeat lies.
I watched and listened to Paul say it on a video just a few years ago. You can easily look it up, it was 'newsworthy in the modern sense' at the time. Otherwise, I agree with your post.@@Rkw772
@@FlipDahlenburgI would like a source for Paul saying that about himself as I’ve never seen it and don’t believe it
Every time someone says Paul is rewriting history, a source seems to pop up and prove them wrong. When will people give it a rest and just accept that Paul isn’t this master manipulator and liar. Of course he’s probably misremembered one or two things just like everyone else, but for the most part, he doesn’t lie or make stories up
Good for you!
shame that they didn't release a record
The Land of Gish ❤
Paul looks ripped.
That is one stoned Paul.
great!
good morning friend enjoy good music
The Shaman and Sir Paul.
Both guys have many melodies going on in their work . Its very interesting to hear them just trying out ideas . Donovan was working on the HURDY GURDY album at this time , a work just as great as their stuff .
1968.
- MacArthur Park was a hit
- MLK was shot
- RFK was shot
- Elvis did Comeback
By coincidence- MARY HOPKINS Postcard LP features McCartney and has 3 DONOVAN songs
That’s not a coincidence. That’s why they’re together here in the first place
I'll have what their smokin.
My GENERATION ! ✌
Paul's guitar sounds amazing. Probably his Martin d28, but made in 60s with better woods. I own one, and it sounds nowhere near. I don't play like McCartney of course, but it's not the playing. You can tell when he just plucks a string how the wood resonates beatifully.
Good call! And the Martin's G-string drones deliciously when he hits it hard!
Paul McCartney does sing the part of That's Right on Mellow Yellow plus i think on Riki Tivi Tacie 🏃🏃🏃🚶✌️❤️🙏
What a combination they would have made… every note seems pregnant with possibilites
DONOVAN is a cool dude, i knew almost nothing about his music, then i heard HURDY GURDY MAN cover by BUTTHOLE SURFERS, then i became interested, SUNSHINE SUPERMAN was my first, but he's doing new stuff too, i listen it on CZcams. Found interview in MOJO (or UNCUT?", he's a very smart gentlemen, still interested in new music
no reason these two didnt put out great tunes. but contracts during those days were a pain. why clapton never took credit on beatles. shame.
No reference to Mississippi John Hurt on 1st song..mm.
In the photo, Donovan's Grovers on the treble side are all a-slant, if you know what I mean.
He drinks green tea.
Good going Billy 🎉
The one and only BS
@@alexfeigmusic we knew it all the walrus was Paul
Daft ha'p'orth!
I think there may have been some LSD involved....lol. so cool!!!

Good morning Mr. Leitch. Have you had a busy day?
Prior to this lifetime...
@@beakeral I surely was a tailor…
I wonder who else was there? Hopkins?
7:55 -The origins of Monkberry Moon Delight?
Donovan got kinda lost in the mix. Great artist.
To me, if they would have been better than Simon and Garfunkel.
Bookend this with Donovan hangin' with Dylan and Dylan basically ghosting him while ol Donny is trotting out Catch The Wind and just trying to be a bud, ...it's funny and pathetic at same time... it's on the Tube So should the sick banter between Lennon and Bud Dolan - I mean Bob Dylan in the taxi be around...Baby, You're A Rich (but slightly cruel) Men 🎵
no, William shears campbell, and Donovan
You silly sausage, don't be daft!
I’m a close friend of Paul’s. He’s told me many secrets such as he still smoke. I warned him about his chest pain and told him to call his doctor so he did. Believe it or not we met on Facebook! 😅
You've been suckered Paul is not on Facebook. He has an official page run by his people
@@paulandrew6457 I believe he uses a fake FB account. Like it's a different person's name and pictures but it is really is Paul behind it. He DMs people occasionally and reveals himself. Sometimes he does try to solicit sex from women but not always.
RANDY JUDAH TORREZ ❤️ <
JPM 😆 🤣 😂
Ahhhh I don't think so?
Mellow yellow is the only track with bio paul and billy singing on the same track.
You daft ha'p'orth!
Ceci montre à quel point McCartney était meilleur que Donovan.
They are both very talented it's wrong to put one above the other.
Kind of mamby-pamby. Needs more guts.
This is not the real Paul, as he was dead....this is his replacement, Billie
If you believe that shit you need to get a brain scan to establish if you have one!🙄
Not true.
There is and always only one Paul McCartney. He’s just stoned in this pic. 😊
@@lorrainemartin2869 Don’t waste your time trying to convince this Muppet.😊
Go take your brain for a *h*t mate. Oh, you already did...
