I've watched 3 different videos, seen 3 different techniques. Solder, no solder, silicone, wax on both halves, no wax, tape AND wax only on half. Make up your minds!

Well done Ashley, in the first lines of your video you cleared up a mystery for me, and that was that I couldn't find out how the sizes were measured on the covers. you gave that up right at the start and helped me to now buy my nickel cover for my '69 SG. thank you, John.

Nice video, thank you. I noticed you used regular candle wax but did not re-heat the pickup cover to melt the wax to create a seal with the cover and the humbucker. Is that not needed? Others have done this. The tape is to prevent the squeal? The wax is to prevent the cover from rattling? Is that correct? I see some people use dabs of silicone on the tap to hold the pickup cover in place. Is there a reason you used the wax? Thanks, from Canada!

I wouldn't have added all that tape and wax. It's not necessary. If anything it's gonna affect your sound negatively. You don't even need to solder. Just put a tiny dab of silicone on the inside of the bucker cover and then a beed of silicone on both long sides once it's pushed on and attached. I set kitchen counter tops, vanities, toilets etc with silicone. those covers will never vibrate or come off until you're ready to remove them 👍🏼💯

No, the solder acts as the grounding for the metal cover (yes they do need to be grounded). Just get some sandpaper and scratch the sides of the baseplate and the inside of the pickup cover so that the solder sticks on.
