- Capturing photos with film vs digital cameras is a completely jarring experience! You can definitely see my lack of confidence as a snagged those first photos. I'm happy to say that the results turned out waaayyy better than I was expecting and I'm excited to shoot more film photos!

Love watching people explore film and learn how the struggle was back in the day, definitely need more.
Yess! The video was so good! Loved the energy! And the shots were dope. We need more of this! 💚
I usually shoot all-manual digital (even with some MF adapted lenses). It wasn't really that much of a struggle to switch to analog from a shooting perspective. The only thing that still gets me quite often is that I forget to crank the film advance (I shoot with a mechanical Yashica FX-7).
In terms of pictures, I actually feel that I have to adjust the levels of every picture in some way when using digital RAWs. However, I don't have to do anything for my analog ones. There's just something about the films that they made "right". If I think about it, it also makes sense. While there was some (heavy) retouching in some professional settings, typically the result had to be close to perfect right away back then.
I dig the way you guys are putting the actual image from the film as you take the shots. well done.
awesome vid guys, but I just have to say, the AE-1 has a light meter built in. and its super reliable!
just was kinda funny watching you guys figure out the settings with an app thats all hahah
As an old timer who shot film for 35 years, this was fun to watch! My first experience with photography was in 4th grade. We made a pinhole camera out of an oatmeal box. I remember my wonder at watching my image appear in the developer.
This was great! Loved the banter. Good friends having fun, creating art. Well done!
For some reason, this was such an amusing video to watch! I hope you’ve shot a lot more rolls since this video. The photos look good! ☺️
always seem to come back to this video. vibes are great and the shots are amazing. favorite one would have to be at 14:55. hope to see something from him again.
Haha this video was both hilarious and inspiring! More please😍
Nice! I just got into film also again after leaving it behind more then a decade ago, excited!
Nice one! I really enjoyed watching this. Great photos too! Working on my own film photography game (plus related YT videos) and this was an inspiring watch. Cheers!
Fabulous time! Great pictures!
After watching the video I was expecting to see a sub count of at least 300k. The content is definitely at that level. Keep it up.
Awesome video man! Really enjoyed it! I have my dads old Canon AE-1. He had a roll in the camera. I finished it on a trip to Jackson hole. Which was my first time using a film camera. Haven’t had the guts yet to get them developed or scanned. Loved the video! As I always do. Excited for the next one.
Yo appreciate it! You should totally get those developed! It’s really fun to finally see what you shot
Some nice shots guys. My Favorit is the one at 14:18.
This was so enjoyable to watch. 💗
I just got the ae-1 program it’s my first ever camera this video just got me excited about it
Cracking video. Just staring to use Portra. Your pics showed just how good Portra is regarding exposure latitude. Cheers!
A couple of crazy guys. Enjoy your analog cameras and film. Welcome to the club.

That house was crazy cool. Good shots in there, super fun vid hope to see more film stuff.
Thanks man!
Welcome to the fold brother 😎
This made me want to pick up my camera again. GREAT video!!
You guys are friggin hilarious, would love to go shooting with you with my AE-1, you did an amazing job on the pics and taking us all on your learning journey, thanks so much for sharing! Cat-
I really enjoyed this video. Nice shots.
The photos is amazing 😊
Love the vibe of this vid! So chill.
Thanks Dave!
Great video man!
Nice photos man! The AE-1 is a beast!
It’s so fun!
Loved this video! Felt like it was made for me😂
14:04 god bless the fliping live preview 😁😁
This is so fun
8:16 That was pure comedy gold hahahha
Great video! Anyone else notice how the “no trespassing” sign was blurred out but you can see it in the reflection 😂
Yup! Came here looking to see if anyone commented about it.
Enjoyable video.
BTW, a bike painted in white usually means someone on a bike passed on that location. At least that’s how it is in NYC.
love this man! Do you mind to share the lab you used to develop & scan the photos? I'm really struggling with the results from my local labs
So intriguing and epic :) so super cool :)
Appreciate it!
I laughed so hard at quite a few of the edits 😂 Great vid bro
Lol thanks for coming along man!
Just two bros doing a cute af camera hang
love! I just bought one and I'm so excited to use it! Question, where can you develop the film?
Great video, what app did you use for metering? Thanks
Can't wait to get my hands on these. Just wondering are the images edited in post? Like are they graded or...
stunners
When shooting at slower shutter speeds it helps to take a breath in and push the shutter button slowly. You did the right thing by trying at 1/30 of a second. Worst thing that can happen is the photo will be blurry. The only way to learn photography is to try different things.
I can't find that light meter app ?
what app are you using to expose?
AWESOME VID. DID THE PHOTOS COME OUT LIKE THIS OR DID YOU TWEAK WORK THEM AFTER SCANNING. THANKS
Nice to see a young person experiencing to pleasures and frustration of film and the cameras. Puzzled by use of light meter app when the camera has a very good one. Maybe camera meter doesn’t work?
whats that light meter app again?
Thank you in advance
Hey, I’m a little new in the Photoscene and I wanted to shot in 35mm but I am searching for the rights lense for my AV-1 could you help me and maybe recommend a cheap one that fits
Tennessee looks lovely! Cheers! -Ryan from Utah
Only driven through Utah, but it seemed like an amazing place! Anywhere particular you’d recommend visiting?
@@ConnorMcCaskill2 Off the beaten path, the drive from Boulder to Escalante is amazing, and Hell's Backbone is really cool. I live down by Zion NP so ig you're ever in the area, reach out!
Great video gentlemen! The photos really did turn out well. Curious though, was the in-camera meter on your AE-1 inoperable, or were you just more comfortable with the metering app?
You mentioned that you were looking forward to shooting more film. Do you think you will buy your own film camera after this? If so, try some Kodak Gold 200 for a nice retro look, and then maybe some Kodak Ektachorme 100, but be prepared to be humbled a bit with that. Looking forward to more film excursions.
I was just more comfortable using the light meter app. I picked up some Kodak Gold 200 recently, looking forward to trying it!
Kodak Ektachorme 100 FTW! I still have loads. Have loads of slow b/w Iso 25 and 50. Love it.
In the app, I believe you have to set ISO to 400 to get an accurate reading. Good shots though!
Appreciate it! I was reading to set it to 200 instead of 400 ISO in the app because Portra is better at keeping highlights
🤩
I'm quite new to film also ,but I've heard numerous times that for hand held photos Try to stay at 1/60 or faster. Any slower you're risking catching hand shake blur
Stay in line with your focal length. Example, if using a 28mm lens, you can use as slow as 1/30 second. For a 50mm lens, use at least 1/60 second.
The ae1 has auto exposure it should tell you inside the viewfinder what the proper aperture should be for you to expose the picture correctly
How accurate is the app, LightmeterPRO?
what apps that you use for seeting the camera?
What app are you using on phone for exposure reading?
Love the images! What you rate this 400?
That was dope af!!!!
Thanks Cam!! We have to shoot next time you’re in Nash!
@@ConnorMcCaskill2 you mean when you move back to Cali? Down.
@@cammackey Lol sure
Which lens did you use?
I'm trying to start with film photography as a complete noob. If you had to estimate how many film rolls you had to buy until you became at least halfway decent, how many would you say you've bought?
which lens did you use?
Great video lol
uve got a greatttt eye
Sweet name
Hey do you edit your photos?
What type of lens is it?
how to you get the picture after ?
What's the app on your phone that you used ?
What was the app
My name is Malachi, and I got freaked out when he said, "Let's take a picture of Malachi!" at 2:31
Which scanner did you use to develop the film?
my lightmeter pro
you need to set the light meter App ISO the same as your Portra 400 not 200 you re One stop back
dude you should start a youtube channel
Which lens did you used?
