Quick cheap easy way to set up a washing machine leach line

- I am not a plumber. This is a setup I have done once before at another property and it's been working for over a year with no issues. All I have to buy was pipe and I used old pieces of pipe that I had. The reason why I had to redo it was because the water was just sitting still and puddling near the foundation, bugs and mosquitoes were festering. You can cover the whole thing up with big 3/4 size gravel and top it off all the way till ground level even it out.

a 3 inch pipe would probably solve the problem of the end getting blocked.
Those high efficiency washers use less water but suck at cleaning clothes..I have a front loader and so I'll be draining into a blue plastic 55 gal drum buried under ground.. good job though

you could have just dug the hole, cut the top off a 55 gal plastic barrel, stick it in the hole with the open top down and have the pipe going into the top of it, even drill a lot of holes around the sides of the barrel and put garden cloth around it to keep dirt from washing into the barrel, it would give you a 55 gallon leach tank..
I've seen videos of that and it looks like a solid set up I just wanted to keep it as inexpensive as possible and was trying to work with mostly what I had
Would the 55 gallon be able to support back fill? If so where do you find these. Thanks for input.
yes they can take the weight try to keep the top within 12 inches of the ground level so the sun can help with the evaporation. you can find them on Craigslist

@@functionalvanconversion4284 ... you can usually find plastic barrels at your local car wash for the asking. Since they are used to ship soap they are fairly easy to clean out.... and you might gain a gallon or so of car wash soap in the bargain since they are not quite empty.

From the end point of the video how did you finish it off? Did you then cover everything with the large gravel then the dirt? Did you but a barrier between the gravel and dirt or just put the dirt over it? Also, why did you use so many angles of piping instead of just one perforated pipe going in at an angle?
Just finished graveling it off with smaller pieces of gravel, no dirt on top at least I didn't do it that way and it's still working fine. I put so many angles at the end of the pipe because it'll reduce the chance of clogging with lint or something.
It can freeze too.Make dure it downslope!

I just buried it with large size gravel gravel larger than the holes that I drilled into the pipe

Did u ever have any problems/issues out of this system? We do about 1 load of laundry a day. And are having problems with our leach field. Looking to take some of the stress of our current system
I noticed it would fill up faster with my old Washing machine that would use a lot of water but ever since I got my new high efficiency machine it's been working fine.. I dug up just under a 3 by 3 hole
How many bags of gravel did you need? And where did you get it from? I'm having trouble finding that size.
¾ size gravel i think we got it at lowes

Why not use a drywell?
Has it been working ever since you did it? I have a feeling if I do it I might get a lot of water building up right there
Now that it's a 4 person family home it's been working ok when it was 8 of us it would fill up. Then again the washing machine is an old school machine that would use a lot of water. Almost 5 times what the machines use now a days. If youre in a single family home you'll be ok and if you have a water efficient machine you'll be more than ok.

I live in an RV park and I don't want the water just spreading around what can I do?? I already digged a deep hole and the water just comes out
That's a tough one. The area where we live is rural, so it's permitted I would reach out to a licensed plumber on your situation

if you are just letting it run onto the stone , whats with all the elbows at the end of the run
We wanted to make sure that there were holes drilled out so that not all the water poured out of the end of the pipe and the dirt wouldn't get too saturated in one area so that the water would pour on to every rock as much as possible

@@MarkoSpeaks we only use eco friendly detergents and have it set up with a mulch and gravel pit to AI'd filtration. It just depends on what you're washing with.

None of this seems quick or easy.
An actual plumber would not use a short sweep elbow as you have- Those are used for toilets. An actual plumber would not have a thousand elbows and turns as you have- straight runs provide less cloggs. With all the turns and elbows, where is your cleanout when it gets clogged at the elbows? Where is your trap to prevent the smell and the bugs from coming back into your home after a few years? You see, that is why people need to hire a professional plumber. Plumbers dont just glue PVCs together. There is a reason and purpose for each item used for plumbing that people are not aware of. i'm just saying and i'm no plumber
Since it's not connected to a sewer or septic tank there will not be any sewer gas coming back up the pipe. Sewer gas is methane from poop breaking down.
