HOW THIS FEMALE NHRA PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE BEAT AUSTRALIA BEST IHRA THUNDER 400 PRO DRAG BIKE RACERS

- It was a career highlight for NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle Drag Bike racer “Kalifornia” Katie Sullivan when she traveled to Willowbank Raceway in Ipswich, Australia for the 52nd Annual Gulf Western Oil Winternationals Drag Race extravaganza. Initially Sullivan was hoping to be the first to run a Pro (Stock) Bike six second pass “down under.” Just a short time before the event Australian racer Luke Crowley took that honor with a stellar 6.90. The goal for Sullivan and team then became win the race and make the long trip pay off. After a rough start in qualifying it was clear Sullivan would have her work cut out for her up against a hungry and gung-ho field of Australian IHRA Thunder 400 Pro Bike Racers? Could the young and talented American racer find a way to score a win for Team USA?

Lovin the videos. It good to kinda meet these people and learn more about on a professional and personal level. Keep up the great work.
Thanks a lot! Please share!
What an experience, to travel all that way... and win to boot! What a thrill for all involved and especially for you, Katie. Great job! I'm an old (75) turbo drag bike racer from the early 80's, who won some national events back then around the SE US, running 8:50's @ 158 national records, which I thought was really fast. How I envy you riding such a great bike, and of course, of your obvious skill doing so. Humble, sweet, cute and ferocious all in one talented package. Wow, now I'm an old jealous racer... lol. Your fiance is a very lucky guy.
Was great meeting you in the Media room at the event, Jack. Great coverage of the bikes at the event, and awesome to see Katie grab the W. Hope we see you down under next year mate.
Thank you bud! Stay tuned. More coming from Australia. Thanks a lot for the feedback. Please subscribe and have a friend who loves fast motorcycles do the same. Thanks a ton! I'll keep it coming.

I am not involved with drag racing anymore, but I stumbled upon this video by accident. I was there when Katie got her NHRA license 10 years ago. This is an excerpt from my blog that I used to do. Katie--if you see this; hello! Congratulations! Very cool video! Sorry about the long post...
"By the time I get to the track, everything is all ready to go. Amazing! They really got up early like they said. Hope they got a bucket full of shift forks handy ha ha. When somebody new is trying to learn how to ride a motorcycle with a 6 speed transmission, they tend to tear up shift forks and other transmission parts. The way these things work is that you shift into each gear WITHOUT letting off the gas. If you let off the gas before you are in 6th gear it will damage the transmission. If you go to Frank Hawley's drag racing school to learn how to ride one of these monsters, the motorcycles there have 'regular' transmissions, otherwise they would spend all day just repairing broken gears. Also the motorcycles at the school are slower. Katie went to the school last month and did well, but didn't run quick enough to get her license.
Before we make a run, money for testing has to be paid and waivers have to be signed so when somebody gets killed, the track won't be held responsible. After getting all the paperwork done, we take the motorcycle up for the first run. Everybody (except maybe Katie) is noticeably nervous, even Blake. I've never seen him like this, but I've also never seen an 18 year old girl making her first ever pass on one of his motorcycles. She has been to the school, but like I said before, the school bikes are a little tamer. We have detuned the motorcycle to slow it down. Under ideal conditions with the rider doing everything perfect, I figure the bike may run a low 7.40, but only if everything goes perfect, which it never does. In order to get her NHRA license, she only has to run a 7.90 at 165 MPH and we know it is capable of going that fast. She does her burnout and stages. I line the bike up perfectly straight (I hope) and turn on my video camera. I'm guessing that there are fingers crossed and little prayers said. Yellow, Green, GO! The bike leaves like it was shot out of a cannon! Straight down the pike! 7.29 at 182 MPH! HOLY SHIT! I won't say that there was a collective sigh of relief because everybody is just stunned. AWESOME PASS!!!
Usually just one person goes down past the finish line to push the rider and bike back to the pits, but everybody jumps on whatever pit vehicles are available and rushes down to the shutdown area. I get there first and give Katie a big hug and tell her what her time and speed was. How 'bout that shit! This is just way cool. I think that she agrees. Her mother and brother and Blake and Shawn are all there now. This is so exciting! We head back to the pits to service the bike and analyze the data. Professional drag race cars and motorcycles have data recorders that record everything that is going on during a run. This is supposed to help you tune the vehicle, although sometimes it just leads to a lot of head scratching. We can see that she hit the rev-limiter in 2nd and 3rd gear, but other than that everything was OK. Blake decides to leave everything basically the same for the next run. No sense going overboard until Katie feels comfortable on it. We head back up to the line for the 2nd run. This time she hits the shift points almost perfectly and runs a 7.24; a little bit quicker. After we get back to the pits after this pass and look at the data, we can see that the carburetors aren't working correctly. We try to fix this and also to put more power into the motor. I think that she can handle it. The 3rd pass yields a 7.22 at 184 MPH which is better, but the bike should have run faster than that. We check out the motor and see that one of the cylinders is going dead. Oh well; looks like the day is over. I really wish we could have given Katie maximum power to really see her potential, but that will have to wait for another day. We surely accomplished much more than expected this day. The plan now is for her to race at Atlanta on the 3rd weekend in April. I'm really looking forward to this."

Awesome video jack ..it was a pleasure to be at the track to say gday mate and to witness Katie to run the first 6sec pass on that track ...but in saying that Luke Crowley also done us prowd to run the first 6 in Australia with a 6.90 earlier 1 month ago ....

Its about time US citizens went and cherry picked the Aussie races. After Mladin and many Indy car racers from there coming here and doing it, its about time! Good for Katie!
Thanks for the feedback.
upside downdog - I wouldn't call it "cherry picking" as it were. As far as Matt Mladin is concerned, he was at the top of the heap on equal equipment most anywhere he competed. He stood the test of time during his stellar career. He raced against some really fast riders in both Supersport and Superbike classes.
@@racer774
No he didn't. If he was that stellar he should have raced in motogp like Niki Hayden or. Ben Spies in WSB. He took the winnings away from all the other guys when he should have stepped up. Many good racers lost their livings because of his greed. The damn pussy should have stepped up like Hayden and Spies. I wouldn't buy a fricking inner tube for a tire from that asshole.
upside downdog - He raced in GP before he raced in the AMA. He was on a Team Agostini Cagiva which wasn't competitive. He didn't care for all the continent hopping nor did he care for all the fanfare associated with GP racing. Regardless of him being the winningest rider in AMA Superbike history by a huge margin plus being a 7 time champion, Ben Spies was virtually the only rider consistently as fast or slightly faster during their respective times. I'm an American who primarily has raced Suzukis so I was usually rooting for Spies, plus I was a bit tired of Matt always winning but there is no denying he is considered the greatest AMA roadracer of all time. Why? He has the most wins and the most championships by a large margin. This coming from a Roberts, Lawson, Spencer, Schwantz, Rainey fan. I gotta give credit where it is due. I don't hate.
@@racer774
He should have moved up to Motogp instead of sucking up the little money the AMA series offers American riders. Had he done that his career might have been stellar. To me he should have graduated and stepped up but he took the 12th grade over and over.
necessity, the mother of invention. Time to rethink it

Seven seconds flat 491… Yep I caught that
I guess she beat them with experience, the Aussies have far fewer meetings in a year so it takes a long time to gather all the data needed to be consistently fast.
