THE TOWERS - Dystopian CAMP Experience

- Concept:
A friend was building a room with a Blade Runner 2049 theme, which got me thinking about what imposing edifices in a dystopian Appalachia might look like. Within a week I built 3 different expressions of a single design language, each with its own unique aspects. THE TOWERS is the vertical interpretation of that language.
Build:
THE TOWERS is architecturally cold, with stone and glass throughout and the only sign of life being the steam coming from the 5 block-work chimneys and acrid black smoke coming from a metal one. It is more of an art installation that a practical construction, yet it remains a practical CAMP with workshop, vendor and resource generation. As with other CAMPs in this series, more windows will open to allow entry to other shelters over time.
There is no frivolous decor or junk. There no attempt to be "immersive" with the surrounding world. Rather, THE TOWERS is immersive within its own theme and space.
When you visit you will probably arrive in the water because Mista Toad's spawn points are not reliably consistent with CAMP module placement, no matter what anyone tells you. Sorry about that.
Lighting:
The pink theme of the CAMP dominates, with over 150 light sources mostly hidden in various obvious and non-obvious ways. Black floors subtly glow pink to add mystery and highlight their metal texture. Where orange nixie lights are used, they are as themed decor rather than as a light source.
Video:
Blade Runner style music was an obvious choice, making for a haunting mood and slow pace with gradual reveals. References to Blade Runner are sprinkled through the soundtrack, and there is a direct visual reference too, if you pick it. The last minute had an emotional impact one me, for no known reason apart from me being soppy.
I hope you enjoy the dystopian vision that is THE TOWERS. There are more in the series to come.

友人がブレードランナー2049をテーマにした部屋を作っていたので、ディストピアのアパラチアにある堂々とした建物とはどんなものだろうと考えた。私は1週間のうちに、それぞれ独自の側面を持つ、ひとつのデザイン言語を表現した3つの作品をつくりました。THE TOWERSは、その言語を垂直に表現したものである。
建築
THE TOWERSは建築的に冷淡で、全体が石とガラスで覆われ、5本のブロック細工の煙突から出る湯気と金属製の煙突から出る刺激的な黒煙だけが生命を感じさせる。実用的な建築というよりはアートインスタレーションだが、ワークショップ、ベンダー、資源生成など、実用的なCAMPであることに変わりはない。このシリーズの他のCAMPと同様、時間の経過とともに窓が開き、より多くのシェルターに入れるようになる。
装飾やガラクタはありません。周囲の世界に「没入」しようという試みもありません。むしろ、THE TOWERSは自らのテーマと空間の中で没入できる。Mista Toadのスポーンポイントは、誰が何と言おうとCAMPモジュールの配置と確実に一致しないからだ。申し訳ない。
照明：
CAMPのピンク色のテーマが支配的で、150個以上の光源があり、そのほとんどが様々な明白な、あるいは明白でない方法で隠されている。黒い金属製の床はピンク色に光り、神秘的で金属の質感を際立たせている。オレンジ色のニキシーライトは、光源としてではなく、視覚的な装飾として使われている。
ビデオ
ブレードランナー』風の音楽は当然の選択で、呪術的なムードと、徐々に明らかになるスローペースを演出している。ブレードランナー』への言及はサウンドトラックに散りばめられており、それを選べば直接的な視覚的言及もある。ラスト1分には、感動の余韻に浸ることができた。
THE TOWERSというディストピアのビジョンを楽しんでほしい。このシリーズはまだまだ続く。

Das Konzept:
Ein Freund baute einen Raum mit dem Thema Blade Runner 2049, was mich dazu brachte, darüber nachzudenken, wie imposante Gebäude in einem dystopischen Appalachia aussehen könnten. Innerhalb einer Woche baute ich 3 verschiedene Ausdrucksformen einer einzigen Designsprache, jede mit ihren eigenen einzigartigen Aspekten. THE TOWERS ist ein vertikaler Ausdruck dieser Sprache.
Bauen:
THE TOWERS ist architektonisch kalt, ganz aus Stein und Glas, und das einzige Lebenszeichen ist der Dampf, der aus den fünf Schornsteinen in Blockbauweise kommt, und der beißende schwarze Rauch aus einem Metallschornstein. Es handelt sich eher um eine Kunstinstallation als um ein praktisches Bauwerk, und doch ist es ein praktisches CAMP mit Werkstatt, Verkäufer und Ressourcengewinnung. Wie bei den anderen CAMPs dieser Serie werden sich mit der Zeit Fenster öffnen, um den Zugang zu weiteren Unterkünften zu ermöglichen.
Es gibt kein Dekor oder Gerümpel. Es wird nicht versucht, in die umgebende Welt "einzutauchen". Vielmehr ist THE TOWERS in sein eigenes Thema und seinen eigenen Raum eingetaucht. Wenn Sie THE TOWERS besuchen, werden Sie wahrscheinlich im Wasser landen, denn die Spawn-Punkte von Mista Toad stimmen nicht zuverlässig mit der Platzierung der CAMP-Module überein, egal was man Ihnen erzählt. Das tut uns leid.
Beleuchtung:
Das rosa Thema des CAMPs dominiert mit über 150 Lichtquellen, die meist auf verschiedene offensichtliche und nicht offensichtliche Weise versteckt sind. Schwarze Metallböden leuchten rosa, um das Geheimnisvolle zu unterstreichen und die Metallstruktur zu betonen. Wo orangefarbene Nixielichter verwendet werden, dienen sie eher als visuelle Dekoration denn als Lichtquelle.
Video:
Die Wahl der Musik im Stil von Blade Runner lag auf der Hand und sorgte für eine eindringliche Stimmung und ein langsames Tempo mit allmählichen Enthüllungen. Verweise auf Blade Runner sind in den Soundtrack eingestreut, und es gibt auch einen direkten visuellen Bezug, wenn man ihn aufnimmt. Die letzte Minute hatte eine emotionale Wirkung auf mich, ohne erkennbaren Grund, außer dass sie rührselig war.
Ich hoffe, Sie genießen die dystopische Vision von THE TOWERS. Es wird noch mehr von der Serie geben.
