GTV 9 Melbourne: "Sale of the Century" Circa 1982. Host: Tony Barber, co-host: Delvene Delaney. Complete programme with commercial breaks.
Hugely successful Channel Nine game-show based on the NBC and ITV shows of the same name and format. The show was hosted by Tony Barber and ran from 1980 to 2001, in later years it was hosted by Glen Ridge. A further run of the programme in the 2000's aired as "Temptation" (this name taken from an earlier quiz show in the 70's).
Several co-hosts have starred on the show including Victoria Nichols, Delvene Delaney, Alyce Platt, Jo Bailey and Nicky Buckley.

0:01 to 0:30 the Purity (Woolworths) ad is voiced by Graeme Barry. He was a radio announcer for years on 7HO/HOFM.

The risk factor is probably why I prefer the Australian version to the American version...that, and the Aussies kept the accumulating cash jackpot after switching to the Winner's Board.

This show's success in Australia got NBC to revive the show in the US. Of course, the US version eventually replaced the shopping bonus round to something a little less on the risk side.
