- Day 2 on a overnight trip. I finish building a tipi, enjoy the beauty of last nights snowfall and do primitive cooking. Open the full video description for more information.
This is part 2. Here can you see part 1 • Bushcraft trip - snow,...
----------------------------
Date: 17-10-2019
Day: 0°C (32°F)
Night: -4°C (24.8°F)
Location: Sapmi - the land of the Sami people in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. Clean and remote classic northern wilderness. Fresh water rivers. Pine, spruce and birch forrest. Mountains, bears, wolves, eagles, reindeers etc. No dangerous wildlife is in general giving campers problems. I can't give you any information about my location, only that I am somewhere in Sapmi. You need to be the owner or get the owners permission if you want to do the same in Sapmi.
Consuming: Water and pine tea. Meat (cow).

A few questions:
1. Is reindeer skins warm enough?
Yes - absolutely. It is some of the best. Native people in some of the coldest areas of the world, such as Inuit and Sami, used reindeer fur for the warmest winter gear - coats, boots and sleeping bag etc.
2. Is the water safe?
Yes - Sapmi is clean and remote nature.
7. Why add wood on the outside on the tipi?
It helps preventing the moss from falling down.
8. Is the shoes waterproof?
Yes - or just the same as common leather boots. Keeps a lot of water out - but only if they are well made and you take care of the leather.

lol
Which camera and microphone are you using?
The most peaceful thing about your videos is the lack of talking. Really nice. I love it.
at first when i seen his videos i thought it was strange that there was no talking. but now that exactly why i watch them... so peaceful and calming
In the desert You find some water hm seems like you need a dose of turn the other cheek
@In the desert You find some water What on earth are you talking about? God is made up just like the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus. Just a fictional character created to control the behaviour of small minded people.
@In the desert You find some water 😂😂😂 Okey good luck with that, Tell him I said Hi will ya!?
@@chrisswanton5043 No point!
But I think they are just as ridiculous.🙄
But it's a great clip here anyway and not a single fictional caracter had any thing to with it, Not even the nombs or trolls or elf's.
Those are real don't you dare say something about them!😄
Imagine walking in the forest and come up to this guy
Ioannis2nd he would offer you some spruce tea and a side quest.
@Dragoon TV you made my day
Then I'd ask to spoon for warmth
Lol I was thinking the same, dunno what id think if I was hiking and bumped into this Viking looking dude moving cameras around and drinking tea with such a proud smirk on his face.
Much respect to him, hes hardcore devoted
@@ChrisBennettGameDesign lol
Slept in a cave, made char clothe and had my first pine needle tea this weekend, thanks for showing me how, Dave from New Zealand.
😀
What breed of pine needles did you use?
kieranh2005 Pinus Radiata
@@kieranh2005 yes some are poisones
Chr Berge Anything consumed in large quantities could be hazardous but not a few sprigs of pine needle tea. You shouldn’t boil the needles though as it could release terpenes but other that tasting bitter I’d be very surprised if it would still make you ill. I would perhaps avoid drinking 🌲 tea if I was pregnant but clearly that is not going to be an issue for Outdoorsman Dave. Good enquiry.
Thanks Rune for taking us back to an age long forgotten but sorely missed.
@@Mr0r7ega The TV show "Vikings" is not very historically accurate. Many people do not know the real history of the Norse or Vikings.
@@Mr0r7ega I would argue that if what people are thinking of is Hollywood movies/TV when someone says "Vikings", then they are not remembering the real time of Vikings or Scandinavia, they are instead thinking of a made-up low-fantasy version. The real history of Vikings has largely become a time forgotten to the general population and has been replaced with fiction.
Why is it sorely missed? Super hard to survive, the smallest injury/illness could kill you, constant potential threat of starvation, predators, other people; the list goes on. It's weird how much people fetishize history. The majority of humans, up until very recently, had to struggle vs nature to survive. If you 'sorely miss' any of those things, your priorities are fucked.
@@popcorns6472 But things were also a lot more simple in terms of what is expected of you, what you do in your day to day life (not necessarily easy, but simple),
maybe someone bombarded with information constantly and living in a rat race, can appreciate the change of pace in life such as this.
I would say that it is nice to have a trip of that sort to clear the mind, like the guy making the video did,
rather than actually live that life for good, and "miss it".
@@popcorns6472 It's the allure of simplicity and magnification of the "simple things." There is no doubt in my mind that a person from 500-1000 years ago would opt for the ease and comfort of modern living, if given the choice. They'd laugh their ass off at all of the comments praising this kind of existence as a superior lifestyle. That doesn't change the fact that, for the "following" masses these days, modern life is pretty empty. Especially for the urbanites.
3:35 that shot where you walk through the white forest is absolutely surreal! Such a still, quiet, and frozen in time place. Thank you for this.
*You are living the life that many people want to live.*
*You are awesome man*
Yes, enjoying and doing nothing))
He's living a shit fucking life of people then. No people. No fighting no food. Eating cooked meat covered in charcoal. Terrible. He doesn't even have a frying pan. I'd rather be Roman then some dirty barbarian.
I’m sure he doesn’t live like this every day, every week, every year!🤣. Unless he has an independent income, or gets unemployment benefits, he will go to work just like everybody else. This is a CZcams video of a certain moment in time, not a chronicle, not a fly on the wall reality tv!😱😁. All that said, a very inspirational, enjoyable, uplifting, relaxing video. 😀👍

Reminds me of my childhood in Wales, where we would build “dens” and camp out in them during the school holidays. Watching skylarks, listening to the call of the cuckoo. Only difference, it was Summer!
Видимо дети во всём мире одинаковые. Я родился еще когда был Советский Союз и то же самое делали что и Вы на летних каникулах
Apparently children are the same all over the world. I was born back when the Soviet Union was and did the same thing as you did on summer holidays.
Skipp Skippov , thank you for your comments. Best wishes to you!
From what little experience I have made this summer with my trip I can tell the most difficult part of making such videos is actually filming what you are doing.
This makes me even more admire your focus on great imagery and actually telling a story with your films. This is a level of skill really off the charts.
By the way, thank you so much Rune Malte Bertram-Nielsen for your very kind and helpful answer on one of my other comments on your other video.
I made my trip and it went terrible, but I survived and I am glad and thankful I had this experience! :) It really gave me the opportunity to see my life from a totally different perspective.
Which made my everyday-life so much more enjoyable. Thank you for the time you took answering me!
Pretty sure he low key has a companion on the trip doing the camera angles. Think about it, he has a host of 30 second clips, he’s a pro in the wilderness and he has someone else who is good with cameras, they stay silent for each 30 second clip and then hand out the rest of the time. Pretty sure I’m right about this.
I remember when i watched your summer bushcraft trip i was wondering "did Rune will be doing the same historical-recreating kind of bushcraft in winter". Now i have my answer :D. Great job and good luck for whole winter ;)
Sometimes I pause the video when a nice wide angle shot comes in and I just sit and imagine I'm there. Thanks Rune Malte! I'll make the next round of pine needle tea.
This dude look like a young Liam Neeson! Great channel as well.

The contrast of sound between winter and other seasons in your videos, just shows how silent winter really is. All because there’s no talking or music just pure nature.

Your channel, together with "my mechanics", are my top two picks on youtube.

nice camp its getting colder now thats for shur stay warm my friend
Looks like scenes from The Revenant
This is a man who truly knows how to live and enjoy life.
I wonder if vikings dressed up like neanderthals and went on bushcraft trips.
Well they didn't wear armor or capes when they were living their normal life. There were no insulated polyester jackets back then, so furs were the only obvious choice for winter clothes. Now, during the Viking Age the climate of Northern Europe was much warmer but there still were snowy winters.
Also of course they didn't do bushcraft trips :D but when they were travelling through the remote wilderness on foot they obviously needed survival skills.
Not a single mosquito! Excellent filming and story telling.
Hello Rune, please do a video on bathing and laundry Viking-style.
Is that a dare! 😂
You need several men and a wash bucket. After one man is done washing he shall spit in the bucket and pass it on to the next. Poor soul who's last 😅😅
@Downfall The Vikings were actually really clean, for their time anyway, they bathed and groomed themselves regularly.
@Downfall you are wrong:) They were known to be quite vain and tools for grooming are found on their boats..

When you go far into the forest, when your phone is silent, it does not catch the signal, and the sleeping bag on the foam replaces your favorite bed! When your dinner is boiling in a black pot on a hot fire, and all your clothes are soaked through with smoke. You forget about all your problems, they simply do not exist, there is you and the silence of the forest! The silence from which is muffling. Your senses sharpen as you hear the wind, the rustle of grass, and leaves. The creaking of the trunks. At this moment, you feel that you are alive, you are alive now, you listen to your breath, your heart, Nothing can replace these feelings. You are cleansed of all that weighed on you yesterday. Just you and nature. And you're on your own. You're alive now, and that's all that matters. For this we go to the forest. To experience it, over and over again. Those who have experienced it will understand. Those who have not experienced it, still have everything ahead of them. Thank you for giving me this feeling. Thank you for making such content that attracts people to put on a backpack and go to wander along the forest path, your work makes people really happy. 👍
