This movie was my Top Gun before I even saw Top Gun. It made me fall in love with the F-16 Falcon for it's simplicity and because of the fly by wire controls. That signature camouflage look in the movie just made it look so tough!
Damn I grew up on many 80's films. Personally Navy Seals with Michael Bein & Charlie Sheen sculted my terminus heh, but I love the idea of a kid in a F16 listening to rock music haha
I always loved this scene for the one line that always got through to my father. I always did things his way, but when I got old enough and he kept at me...I said "Dammit, Dad...I'm doing it MY WAY!" and made sure I backed those words up with results. THAT is how you ultimately earn the respect of your elders.
Today we get baby driver getting in high speed getaways to his tunes! 32 years earlier we had Doug Masters flying around in an F-16 blowing shit up to his tunes! Man the 80's had it good.
The 80s just had that magic when it came to movie making. You can't even deny it. The music, the practical effects versus CGI. Sure, some of it doesn't age that well but there's just a special charm about it really. Movies like Iron Eagle and Top Gun are some of the finest military aviation movies ever made. As hokey as they are at times. It's a shame hollywood has lost interest in making movies like this. Now it's about cheesy romance movies and comedies lol.
Huh, funny. Mine started after my usaf dad sat me down to watch the movie version of the widows investigation into the Falcons killing they're pilots. What a wierd world we live in?
@charles sutton And still the F-16 (at leat in the simulations) feels like a toy in contrast to a F-18. (anyone the same experience?) ... it feels like the F-16 burns it fuel a lot faster.
Got into the Falcon games as a kid because of this. Got to college and the AF ROTC guys had set up a simulator with Falcon 4 and a challenge to dogfight them. Gave them a little surprise. Probably couldn't do it for real, but in the game, oh yeah. Always a fun movie to watch.
"Now remember what i told you. The simulator is a little different...I want you to feel your way and I want you to concentrate." Yeah, Doug, use the force.
Whenever I'm being told to do something and I am failing but I know better, this is literally what comes to my mind, "Damn it Chappy, I'm doin' it my way", and usually things turn around....This clip is so inspirational! I know a lot of people sh*t on Iron Eagle, but it is still one of the best movies I have seen, simply because it has F-16s
Everyone on this 'thread', keeps going on about the 'soundtrack' from this movie. But the 'track' used at 0:45 of this video, isn't on the Iron Eagle soundtrack album.
I bet @Dozirulf never went have guessed he would have gotten 1M views on this classic. Good work sir. An excellent display of the song Eyes of the World. The dry humor in the first 1 minute is absolutely hilarious & inspiring. He wants to save his father.
Any of us 80’s kids could fly that F16 like it was nobody’s business, and wouldn’t be crying when Chappy yells at us. We’re used to that. Proud to be genX!
If it’s done right that would be amazing! The only problem is a lot of the stuff the characters got away with was only possible because of the time period. It would be hard for them to explain in a reboot how they got access to everything with today’s technology.
You've got to love those MK.82's that can explode on vertical targets. Also the Vulcan cannon that has 20mm rounds that have the explosive capability of a small nuclear weapon.
It was that kid with the glasses who was responsible for the powered-up Vulcan, for sure. He knew what his buddy was getting into, so he had those rounds specially developed overnight, around the same time Chappy was chewing out Doug to get some sleep. They just didn't have enough time to show all that in the movie. Milo was the real hero. He was like solid snake and had to do some extreme sh!+ to get everything together for Doug on such short notice. All the other kids had easy jobs. Milo's story could have been its own movie.
@jasonl102484 -- hell yeah, I watched this countless times as a kid and still watch it today. The soundtrack alone makes it a great action film !!! man I love the 80s !!!!

It was known as a trainer, because it was used for training pilots so the instructor can fly with the trainee. It's even talked about in the film where Chappy tells Doug that he needs a trainer on the runway.
Wouldn't it also be called a "check ride plane"? The two-seater version of the F-16, that has 'flight controls'? The squadrons 'C.O.' would take up a pilot to get some idea of the pilots proficiency?
This movie gets ragged on pretty hard nowadays, but in the pre-CGI 80's everybody dug it. Forget about all the technical bloopers and just enjoy the film!
The continuity goofs are off the charts when it comes to the plane’s armaments, and all of the aerial footage is courtesy of the Israeli Air Force (no USAF planes involved in the making of this movie). Ehh give the guy a little slack. 1 it's an 80's action movie, and I've seen silicone breast implants more realistic than any of those. 2 it's an 80s action movie, gotta lose a bit of realism to get those good moments on camera. This movie is terrible and incredibly inaccurate. Although it is Hollywood when making a jet movie it has to be realistic.
Loved the movie, really liked the music!!! These two really did a good acting in the movie!!!
Great movie awesome soundtrack! Man I miss the 80s.
Unfortunately, this track & the one from the Snake run didn't make it on the Soundtrack. Makes no sense.

I still love it after all this time. Seriously awesome!
I play Ace Combat 3 and listen to the Iron Eagle sound track while playing! best thing to Iron Eagle air combat.
Play Ace Combat 4, get an F-16, and play "One Vision," by Queen.
