  • From rice water to mugwort facials, discover 4 ancient Korean Beauty Secrets that we can still bring into our beauty regimes.
    The craze for pale and flawless skin in South Korea is not exactly news, but why are Koreans willing to go to great lengths to get that ideal perfect skin?
    To really understand Korean beauty culture, we need to take a step back in time and go back to the very roots of Korean Skincare. In the latest installment of my series on K-Beauty History, I take you back to the Joseon Dynasty to explore some ancient beauty secrets that laid the groundwork for modern-day K-Beauty.
    The video is available with English, Italian and Korean subtitles:

    The white skin theory occured in cultures as a way of demonstrating that outdoor work wasn't done by that person. Later in US darker tan skin showed the person was able to go on vacations, or spend time at sports. Now we are all aware that ages us.

    I know that the worship of white skin in East Asia is because the thinner the skin, the more it does not receive light, which means that it is an upper class.
    동아시아에서 흰피부를 숭배하는 것은 피부가 흴수록 일을 안하고 빛을 받지 않은 것이고 곧 상류층임을 의미하기 때문인걸로 알고 있습니다만?

      Soooooo, years ago (when I was still a teen), my Vietnamese sister gave me a “cream” that was supposed to help me maintain my youthful vibrancy … I used it for a week and the look of glee on her face was palpable as my skin became lighter and lighter and lighter. It was a skin lightening elixir. 🤣❤️🤣 I must admit … it worked wonders. ❤️❤️❤️

      She actually knew exactly what she was doing and from that day forward I kept my face out of the sun … this is literally the key to my skin … which is still pretty amazing in my fifties. That and I do not use soap to clean my skin, I use oils such as olive and coconut oil or almond oil, honey, et al. I still use egg whites and used tea bags, as well as cucumbers for tightening my skin.

    • @OdileMonodTheMonodist
      @OdileMonodTheMonodist  Před 4 lety +2

      Hello! Rice water is a natural source of Vitamin B so it evens skin tone and lightens dark spots. But it doesn't make your complexion whiter (meaning it doesn't reduce the amount of melanin in your skin) if that's what you meant. Hope this helps!

    • @OdileMonodTheMonodist
      @OdileMonodTheMonodist  Před 2 lety +1

      No skincare product is really "necessary" except for sunscreen. Everything depends on your personal preferences 😊 toners are mostly used to damp the skin so it will absorb better the following treatments (these are usually called essence or serum or ampoule), some people just use plain tap water to damp their face, I prefer to use a watery product (whether it's called "toner" or "first essence" etc it doesn't matter) because they’re formulated to be absorbed better by the skin compared to plain water, but it’s just a personal preference.
