- To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Milwaukee's Alterra Coffee and the name change to Colectivo Coffee, the owners commissioned Jean's Clay Studio to create 500 hand crafted coffee mugs. Using Colectivo's 'sugar skull' design, I created the mugs with four different base colors: black, red, blue and white. All the mugs were made exclusively by me on the pottery wheel and decorated with a carving technique called 'sgraffito'. No molds, stamps, stencils or decals are used. These one-of-a-kind mugs are individually crafted, carved and painted with various color patterns resulting in a coffee mug that carries within it a unique spirit. Viva Colectivo! colectivocoffee.com

This is how all videos on CZcams should be. No pointless patter, fast speed, great music and instructive. Thanks.
Well, this was an awesome video. So nice to finally see a video from beginning to end. If everyone only knew the work and skill involved in this craft. Such enjoyable work. I would love to learn from you but I live to far away! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Kerry, I agree with your sentiments. It is hard to explain the entire process to people so showing a sped up version from start to finish was my intention. But it still leaves some parts out! Keep on potting!!
Love your scrifitto work
Love your work so colourful.
I just received one as a gift and I LOVE it!!!
Great video and editing!,
Thanks so much Rick. Glad you are enjoying the videos.
If you loosen your decorating colours a little with water ,or glaze medium you can fill a slip trailer with it and apply the colour that way .it works well especially into a scraffito indented line ,such as yours.its much quicker and easier than constantly dipping your brush into the pigment.takes a little practice, hold the piece on its side and let gravity flood the colour into the area.use a small nozzle for control.
Great job. Love your work.
Amazing!! Love your work
Skulls represent death. Let's speak LIFE over dead things. In the world there is so much darkness & evil. If we each decide to bring LIGHT into every situation, the darkness will flee! Use your talents to help bring HOPE ❤ To change the world we first have to change our own hearts 🎶🎵 we produce what we are. God bless you! 😘
Those are AWESOME! The hand carving was amazing.

Hi Sarah, I made them in batches of 25, but in succession so I could make 75 - 100 per week. For instance, I would throw 25 mugs on one day. Pull handles and attach them the next day and throw 25 more mugs that same day sometimes. All the carving needed to be done in the leather hard stage. I also have a pretty small studio, so space was an issue as well.

Hello mam, you are amazing really...
Doing your work with so fast and yet beautifully... Mam I also want to learn coffee mug making.. how can I learn. From where I can learn..? Please suggest something ...
Hi Sarah, how did you make your black slip? And could you give us step by step on doing one mug? Would like to try your technique.
Just curious, how many were you doing at one time? I don't imagine you could do all 500 in one go without some drying issues
Do you have to use a kiln after you make the mugs?
👌👋👋👋
What one needs to be done if he wants to do job as a potter???and how much is the scope of this?please let me know sir because i am really interested in pottery but don't know nothing about it.
Hi, GREAT final job. I want to know where can I order de metal seal that you use to mark your mugs. Please let me know. thanks
Thanks and you bet! They are out of Wisconsin, USA. Here is the web address: www.4clay.com
what do you do when you're done? do you need to fire it or are there clays that can just harden with time?
tinncity this clay needs to be fired, air dry clay is almost certainly not water tight.
What's that first stuff you painted on?
I'm new to pottery
is that slip? or just paint?
+best vines fromthebeginning Yes, It is slip I mix with black stain and apply to the leather hard piece. Paint would not work. Thanks for watching!
Ola td bem !.
É possivel vc nos dar o endereço onde adquiriu essa peneira com agitafor do esmalte?.
Se possivel obrigado!.
Beautiful how much for the mugs
Where can I order one ?
What paint was used? Was it glaze or regular paint?
Not paint but stained clay slip. Liquid clay with stain.
