A few things the guy said are not accurate. # 1. Lanning, Norvel, Sark - were never offered the job. None of them "turned it down". None of them were offered. There are credible reports that Doboer was indeed the first choice. #2 Nick Saban was the first choice at Alabama in 2006. He was the one they targeted. Rich Rod was only offered the job after Saban initially said he was staying with the Dolphins. Some time passed, the NFL season ended, and the Alabama AD again made a second push for Saban that he accepted.

This isn't a situation of a guy taking over a team that fired its coach. This is a team with a roster as talented as any that just won the SEC and played in the CFP playoff. The expectations for next year don't change. If you have lowered expectations, then that means you hired the wrong guy.
With Bama three deep with four and five stars it is realistic for fans to expect at a minimum playoff berth every year. Can DeBoer recruit the south? That’s the bigger concern.
It matters... but not quite as much now a days. The PAC 12 is disappearing, those players know they have to go to the east. Plus with Portal and NIL - it's way easier.

I think his big key right now is to convince the players currently at Bama to stay at Bama, especially these next 4 weeks when they'll be free to do such. If he does that, next year's team is a top tier talented team which Bama will be among the favorites in the national champ talk(especially with the CFP expanding) and then he can build on the program itself. Alabama for a while hasn't been recruiting just in the South but throughout the country, especially in California. I think he'll keep doing that, especially since he coached at Fresno and knows the state somewhat already. I think it's a great hire

If he can't recruit for the premier football program in the country in the most talent-rich region, then he can't recruit. It seems pretty obvious that he can coach.

FSU's coach was never offered to go to Alabama. He was leveraging money from FSU, which is smart. Fact 2: if you are not one of the top 12 teams in the NCAA and miss the playoffs, it will not be good in Bama land. No matter if it is year 1 or year 10. Y'all have to do a better job of reporting. He just got hired in Tuscaloosa, not East Lansing.
Norvell is overrated we will see how he is without Jordan Travis
Seems like a good hire. My main concern is that SEC ball is different than other conferences--just ask Bret Bielema, Butch Jones, and a host of other successful coaches who did not fare well in the SEC. That being said, I wish Mr. DeBoer all the best.
Fortunately he'll have Saban there to assist him as he settles into the new Conference.

The coach at Alabama is essentially the president of the University. Little else matters there other than football. Alabama is a football stadium with a few classrooms attached.

To be able to drag the cobbled together mess thats left of that Washington team after all the stars left, I too would have bailed first opportunity. The fact that he bailed and the other coaches decided to stay, tells me he wasnt sold on Washingtons future either.

recruits will go where they can win, compete for championships, have the nicest facilities, and have a shot on the next level, and they like the coach. saban leaving dosent change that. i think what happens with the transfer portal will tell us alot going forward. bama will lose some guys thats not a question but who leaves and how many will be a good indicator. the fact that their wasnt a mass rush out the door when saban retired showed players are atleast willing to hear the guy out. i mean lets not forget your new coach just played in a national championship and beat the team you lost to

Here my question for CBS Sports, what evidence do you have that Alabama ever contacted Norvell, Lanning or Sarkisian? My guess you heard that from Jimmy Sexton who is the agent for all of them as well as Saban. The people of Alabama know Sexton is not above pretending another program is interested in your coach in order to force you to give your coach a new contract. Remember the Saban is going to Texas BS from 2010? That was nothing but a Sexton lie but it got Nick a new contract.

Kalen DeBoer and Chuck Morell recruited my son when he was at Sioux Falls. He has been winning since day 1. They have also all been together for quite awhile and came back together at Washington. Here is a video of Sioux Falls beating NORTH DAKOTA a D1 team his final year. Sioux Falls won the National Championship the two years he was the HC.
