  • Built in World War Two this anti aircraft battery is set in a circular layout, the site had a circular road linking the four gun emplacements. The guns were in pairs with a sunken magazine between each pair. Within each gun emplacement were shell stores located around the gun forming a ring. The guns were 3.7" and were mounted on the site at the beginning of World War II.
In 1944 the site became part of Dovers V1 defence system.
The battery is in fairly good condition apart from graffiti, remaining structures include the central command post, gun store, guardroom, gun emplacements, magazines and air raid shelter.
Unfortunately the accommodation blocks and radar site have long since been demolished.
Within the magazines there are remnants of wartime graffiti by the soldiers stationed at the battery.

    Brilliant, Thanks.
Loved the WW2 art, the detail in that sailing ship was outstanding, its a shame kids have spray painted rubbish over some it, now its lost forever.

It definitely is frustrating but we do try and photograph as much wartime graffiti that we can do there is at least some sort of record of it.
