Especially great when we remember that all these donations (given instead of sold), whether trams, Bayraktars or other supplies and aid of every sort imaginable, are costing the donors money. Wonderful to see the commitment to Ukraine from countries all over Europe and the rest of the world. May their generosity be recognised and rewarded. Czechs stepped in from the very beginning of that war.
In April they sent to Ukraine dozens of tanks and combat vehicles.
In a campaign ‘A Gift for Putin’ Czechs raised in one month €1.2 mln to buy modernised T-72 tank for Ukrainian army.

Streetcars made in Czechoslovakia are even here in the US! (Seems like we don’t make anything anymore…) But they really are great quality and I’m so glad that they decided not to sell but donate the streetcars!
I’ve been lucky to have traveled through these countries and I can see why they would believe in supporting Ukraine!

Every little helps. If every European country donated some equipment to replace those the Russians have destroyed, it will help the Ukrainian civilian services. Everything from Ambulances to road repair equipment would be useful.👍
If every European country sent 1/10 of the weapons requested by the Ukrainian government the war would already be over. Isn't perhaps about time to make sure our aids don't get blown up before sending in some more?

@@vladnickul not talking about military and humanitarian aid. They need farming and road building and civil engineering equipment etc. Russia has wrecked and stolen vast amounts of such equipment!

The important thing here, is that most of Ukraine's trams were the same model as these used trams in Prague. That's why they were going to sell them to the Ukraine before the war, since they would be easily integrated into Ukraine's systems. Now, they will be donated. If the trams come from other countries, they would have to learn how to operate and maintain them. I'm sure the other countries can and will help in other ways :)

@@user-do5zk6jh1k Yeah, we all have to contribute i our own way. But I really like that Ukraine gives thought through "wish lists", and donor's convene with Ukraine to see who can do what. Like I really felt good the other day, when Canada came up with 500'000 winter battle uniforms. I'm waiting for a decision on how many advanced Archer self propelled artillery systems Sweden will deliver. I'm hoping for 24. It's half of our inventory, but another 22 have already been ordered, and I don't think Russia is a threat to Sweden any time soon.

Nice gesture, at least they weren't scrapped at the moment of retirement like most cities do.
We don't scrap them - we have the newest trams as well of course, but we like these old T3s (built in 70's) and we keep them, renovated of course, because it adds a charme into the city, like Prague...

Prague's history goes 1200 years back and we want to keep it...
Actually UNESCO heritage forbids us to make any significant changes, therefore we have to care a lot..
@@viktornovomestsky3999 That is true, especially with vehicles of anykind. Outside of museums it's up to individuals to preserve anything. It get very hard with things as big as buses, trucks or aircraft. They all need a roof or garage which usually involves rent. Cars are fairly easy to hide away. Only a small group seems to be concerned about preserving history and it's usually fighting someone.
@@crushingvanessa3277 I don't think there is a solution for this, as like I've written, your history goes back about 500 years, and I can't see any heritage of these times in Canada, in form of preserving buildings, cars, trams etc.... Your cities are modern..
It would be the same in case of Czech republic, but due to lucky circumstances Prague was the only city which has not been bombed in WWII (apart from one unlucky case in 1945, when US pilots have thought they are over Dresden in Germany, but they bombed Prague.. Luckily there was no significant damage done)...
I can recommend you one thing only - in case you are history loving, move to Czech republic.. You can work remotely, or for a multinational company, of which there are plenty..
We have the lowest unemployment in the EU since 2015, there are more job offerings than applicants, so you will find job very quickly...
It can be Prague, or any other city, as there are currently 18 UNESCO heritages in Czech republic.. Check this video: czcams.com/video/nkUKjD3aJXA/video.html - it is 7 years old, lot of changes have been made since then, in terms of renovated buildings...

Awesome. Well done Prague and Czech people. That is how free countries behave. Maybe more cities and countries can donate buses which do not run on rails to help the traumatized Ukrainians get back their lives. If everyone does a bit then it could make a big difference. It takes more than weapons to beat a dictator, it also takes civilian action.

Eastern Europe has led the way in showing how solidarity is done. This is also nice because it keeps some of the older equipment from just getting thrown into the trash heap.

Very nice, indeed! But how is the problem with different gauges solved? Prague has standard gauge (1435 mm) but in Ukraine there is broad gauge (1524 mm).
Changing the gauge is trivial. As the video has shown, they've done it before as these Tatras have run on the streets of Kharkiv until a few months ago (when the Russians destroyed them).

I took a virtual tour of Lyman before the occupation. One thing I liked was the interesting trolly cars with a line apparently going right by the McDonald's food plaza near the bridge over the rail yard. It was a lovely place. I was shocked to see it after liberation.
Warsaw also donated five retired but still perfectly functional Solaris buses to the city of Mikolajev. I so much regret I have never visited Ukraine before, and I so much hope I will be able to do it soon, and see various cities and places in it. Only now I'm learning how beautiful it is.

A far cry from the 100 busses and 60 trams destroyed by Russia but a good start and a nice symbol of camaraderie.
There are other czech cities than Prague and Brno participating in the donation, they just weren't shown in the video... In total, we should give them 54 buses and 42 trams...
I think we have some of these trams in Vinnitsia already from the Czech Republic , great way of getting around
These trams are rock solid, they're still running in ex-Soviet countries every day with almost no issues.

While I think it's extremely kind hearted, using them right now is a really good way for lots of people to die. It would be the most obvious moving target and apparently killing civilians is their strategy. Way to close to the front to even consider honestly.

I've recently been researching the modern German military and I have some questions. Germany apparently in the past had lots of problems with getting funding to upgrade or procure more equipment. It's not a very known thing outside of Germany and I wanted to know if you know anything about it? Is it all a political problem? Is it as bad as some military analysts say? Thank you for your time.
@@squidiz496 Funding really went down in the Merkel-era. there was a saying; "we are surrounded by friends". so the whole society saw no need for a strong military and wanted to spend the money elsewhere. conscription/mandatory military service was done away with and germany purely kept highly trained special forces for operations in crisis countrys. nowadays there is no mass army any more. most of the equipment of the cold war era was sold to other countrys like turkey, which is surpressing the kurds with obsolete german leo 2 tanks of the 1980's.
The new government has announced 200 billion euros for the military but most of it is going to the US for communications warfare like sattelite links and only like 6 % of it is meant for the ground forces (Heer)...

@@squidiz496 Nothing looks better since this war. the ukrainians are getting invaded with all dreadfull means to that - the russian soldiers are forced by their government+society (propaganda) to do that awefull duty despite only wanting a peacefull life like all human beings. And the west, germany included, is watching and waiting that russia is worn down, with belarus in partnership, to overthrow their governments and install US-companys to exploit the wast resources... its just a jean-paul-like "weltschmerz"
But to answer your question: there will be more military spending in germany for sure, but this takes time - like 3-8 years easily (we dont have the most efficient bureaucracy down here, dont make me rant about the "Bundesamt für Wehrtechnik und Beschaffung")

many trams T6A5 was destroyed in Prague, after 25 yers of using - yet still in pristine condition - because of decision new mayor and new left side politician party called ,, Pirates,, - anarchists, it users - these last generation of trams from Prague were able to serve another 20-30 years
Czech Pirates are progressives, not anarchists.. I like the look of the old trams, but am grateful for the new trams. They are comfortable, have air conditioning and so much larger, handicap accessible and a lot easier for ladies to take prams on and off . They are orders of magnitude better than the old ones.
