  • We take a closer look at the Alvarez Masterworks series MF60 OM, a high quality folk acoustic guitar.
    Check it out here: www.pmtonline....

Designed and crafted by Alvarez’s master luthiers, the Masterworks range of guitars use only the finest, all solid tone woods and components in their construction, and utilise some really innovative design features that have been developed over the half century that Alvarez have been building guitars. These truly are premium quality acoustics, but you might be a little surprised to see how affordable they are when compared to other top end acoustics with similar specs.
The Masterworks MF60 OM has a folk or orchestra body design, a little curvier than a standard dreadnought. A non-electro acoustic, this simple, but eloquent guitar oozes quality featuring a natural gloss finish Solid AA grade sitka spruce top with herringbone binding, and solid African Mahogany back and sides. The top is supported by Alvarez’s forward shifted, FST X-bracing system, allowing a larger section to freely resonate, and this, plus the quality of the tone woods combine to deliver a very vibrant, lush tone, suitable for a wide range of playing styles.
Attached to the body is a one piece mahogany neck with a very comfortable profile and a smooth, semi gloss finish, and fitted this is a bound Pau Ferro fretboard which is extended to accomodate 22 frets, quite unusual for an acoustic guitar like this.
Other features include Alvarez’s innovative Bi-level bridge which creates a more accute break angle as the strings pass over the saddle, increasing string tension to improve tone and playability, the saddle and nut are made from real bone for maximum transfer of string vibrations, and there’s a set of high quality open gear nickel tuners up on the headstock to maintain the simple, traditional and classy vibe of this great acoustic guitar.

I have three dreadnoughts (2 Martins and 1 Taylor). I bought the cutaway version of the MF60 last week, and it's awesome. OM size, feel, and sound are great!

Nice review, but I'd think that a fingerpicking demo would have made it even better. I rarely strum, and I'm looking at the OM size from that perspective.

I agree about the need for a finger picking demonstration. It is SO tiring to see well constructed mid and high grade guitars being "played" with violent up and down strikes that only vary with one or two hard down strokes every 5 swipes. To me that is not guitar playing, and it seems that almost every video review on a guitar has that type of "strumming" to showcase the instrument.

There are plenty of weak wimpy half strumming and fingerstyle reviews out there. Go find them.

@@fuckbored4724 I have not made any adjustments I am just breaking it in I only had it 3 months so far. This guitar is very light weight. Because of the shorter scale I am using 10 gage strings which makes playing very easy on your fingers with the same tone as the heavier gage strings. Solid wood guitars takes many years to break in. They are like trees you need to water them (humidifiers) during the cold months. I am using the daddario sponge humidifier.

@@tgf5652 Hello T Gf, it all depends on how the guitar feels in your lap and are you comfortably able to play it. For me, the MF60 is very comfortable because I am not a big guy with long arms to fit around a dread. The MF60 has an excellent base tone and responds well to fingerpicking, and strum. I also own a Martin 000-16, Zager ZAD50, and Fender Telecaster. They are all set up for my size and they all play quite well. So if you get the chance to play them both it is up to you to make the decision because you will be the one who plays it.

Due to taxes and currency exchange rate difference it costs fortune to import one of these even if one had the money!
