Monday's have gotten better since Ben has been playing awesome acoustic riffs. These videos make me want to be a better player.
Ben makes us all want to be better players!
Thanks for tuning in & commenting. đ€
Ben's a great player, and played appropriate music on each guitar. Some reviewers just smash away on an OM for instance. I like the walnut top for looks and it's unique tone, but those spruce tops sounded amazing. I just wish we could have heard them with only a mic. I don't even own an amp and our open mic night has been cancelled by covid. I'm really liking Alvarez guitars lately, though I've yet to handle one. Gorgeous instruments with seemingly much bang for the buck. Thanks for the posting.
I appreciate it when Ben flubs a note. It reminds me he is indeed human, not some guitar playing android
Everyone has a âbum note generatorâ in -line on their pedal board....even Rabea lol.
I played this guitar today at my local guitar shop and oh my goodness it played and sounded like a dream!!
I am planning to save up for it because I fell to much in love with it đ
That was a tasty looped intro, Ben! Well done!
I bought the all mahogany dreadnaught version at the beginning of the year. It plays and sounds fantastic.
Love these reviews; BensÂŽs apparent honesty, lack of nerd scheiss and his playing. A review not simply a demo.
Un-plugged please....we can't hear the real guitar sound. Always appreciate the effort it takes to record something like this but the value is seriously diminished. When plugged in I can make my all hog OM sound like a spruce dread.
I think they forgotâŠthey usually always do an unplugged version. Or perhaps the mic sound is mixed in with the output.
Any chance of doing a vid with these just micâd up?
i would love to hear that too, shame they did not do them mic'd up,usually they do so,are they hiding something? :D
I bought the one played in the intro awhile back. Really awesome deal. All solid wood guitar and a case for $740. Sounds great.
That much guitar for that price is amazing! All solid wood and abalone binding! Abalone, real and fake, is $$ to buy, and takes a lot of time and skill to install! And they sound good, and will sound better with age! That's a great value!! Very nice job on the demo Ben!! Cheers and Merry Christmas!! 8) --gary
Love the spruce top! Sounds darker overall, beautiful playing by the guitarist đ
Would to hear them not plugged in at all.
WHy is it we keep having to say this? I mean these are acoustic guitars as opposed to pick ups which all sound terrible imo
So sorry, we will try to do better in the future...
@@andrewbowen8122 dude, stop being so critical. When youâre cranking out five videos a day (exaggeration but still quite a few videos), plugging in an acoustic guitar makes it 10x easier to record and then edit later. And besides, some people want to hear it plugged in.
@@christiandiehl6804 fair play and I apologise if I came across as being critical as that wasnât my intention albeit I could of worded it differently? I wasnât aware it made it easier but my point about hearing a pick up is something I stand by as it doesnât tell us anything about the âacousticsâ of the guitar.
Thank you though for your comment as I would hate to come across as âthat guyâ so to speak.
@@andertons aww you making feel terrible now lol. No seriously no apologies necessary albeit it would be nice to hear these beautiful acoustic guitars without the pick ups first? Hope this comes across more as a critique as oppose to just being critical?
Often times I watch these vids just to listen to him noodle...
I bought the spruce top grand auditorium. I'm loving it every time I pick it up. I got it from that shop before the video was shot. Glad I did.
I have the black walnut grand auditorium model, absolutely the best acoustics you can get for 1000 dollars, plays and sounds like a dream
I think the spruse gave a warmer sound, loved them.
Glad to see this posted. I just bought the all walnut OM on Friday. Simply a beautiful guitar. Just love looking at it. And it plays and sounds fantastic. I was looking for the GA model, but my local shop didnât have one and Iâm actually glad I bought the OM as I ultimately wanted a smaller body, shorter scale guitar. I would love to hear the just mic demos as well.
Always loved Alvarez guitars. Which is the best? What size strings are you playing and brand?
I wish we could have heard them without the pickups. When I purchase an acoustic it's first and foremost for the unplugged sound.
I want Alvarez crazy after coming across the MfA77CEARSHB (The OM all walnut) and ended up buying the OM, the Grand Auditorium, and the Artis series 8 string baritone for alternate tunings. There seems to be a lot of hate for the tone of the walnut tops, but in person and on stage there's a fantastic clarity and tone that I love, Paired with nickel bronze strings in particular, there's a very balanced, woody tone to them both.
Amazing guitars. Alvarez has upped their game as of late. I have three Alvarez guitars. I love my 1965 Anniversary Slope Shoulder.
I've had my spruce top Alvarez for 14 years but that walnut is spicy bass deep!
the Walnut I like. Warm deeper tone.
Beautiful guitars! I still play my Regent my father bought me 30 years ago. Just bought my nephew an Artist elite dread. Lovely burst top!
If I was to choose one, it would be the spruce top OM, sounds beautiful. I suppose it could be Ben's masterful playing but still!
I am picking up the MPA66SHB in a couple of days.
I sat down with it having no experience with Alvarez and was blown away. $684 total (US).
I have the Spruce top GA. Lovely looking guitar and sounds fantastic, cant wait to hear what it sounds like in the future, will only get better!
Lovely guitars...and stunning playing too!! I think the Spruce tops sound a little nicer to me, but I'd have to hear them live to be sure.....and seeing as I'm in New Zealand, sadly, that isn't going to happen. But I could listen to Ben play all day long, so I'll survive!!! :D
Dream guitar forsure if Corona didn't kick my ass id buy one but its super cool to see them all together its like a family of guitars the walnut GA was definitely my favorite its just all around nice nd plus it just looks stunning
Been waiting for a long time for this video but after watching it I am very surprised we only heard the plugged in sound which I'm not at all interested in đ€·. Would LOVE to hear the acoustic sound....
Which letters designate the Masterworks? I played an AD 60 and loved it but doing know what line it falls in. Anyone? It was a starburst which I really don't fancy.
Damn, nice playing at the end! :o
I have an 800 dollar Martin that sounds fantastic. Would love to have this to play as well. Great sound for the price range
Love the dread with the spruce top! It may be the next instrument i add to my arsenal!
Great demo, Ben. These sound quite nice and are a great value. It might just be me but the spruce seems to have more âsnapâ ...sounds crisper.
I Love Alvarez guitars and Ben's playing is always an absolute pleasure to listen to. But an important point is always to play acoustic/electrics through the room mic only first. I think I am not alone in saying that the onboard electronics for most of us is just a bonus rather than a "must-have" and speaking personally I rarely plug in any of my guitars. It would have been good to just hear these guitars acoustically. Still a great video thoughđ
Have you found an abs flight case that fits the MGA77CEARSHB grand auditorium well?
Oh man I bet that walnut would be threat on an archtop. Maybe with birch back and sides. Killer chops to. Nice work.
Ben should do some online lessons. I watch these videos because of his playing even though I don't need another acoustic.
They're on the way - in the meantime I'm doing a bunch of short lessons on my insta - @bensmithguitar :-)
@@bensmithguitar Thanks for the info, I just started following you on Instagram. You are a great acoustic guitarist.
Holy crap! Damn CZcams dropped Paradiso. Never-mind my last memory cell vaporized @60. Great I get to catch up.
Semper Fi
I don't know if it's just my ear, but the walnut topped guitars were just a bit more spangly and leaned a bit treble heavy, where the spruce topped ones sounded a bit more balanced on the treble and bass.
Apart from wishing there was a bit more fretboard inlay work, all look to be very nice guitars.
Thanks for another great video, Ben!
Great sounding guitars. Get a lot for the money. I would like to see you guys do a demo of some Alverez YAIRI guitars...the real top of the line for Alverez. The YAIRI masterwork series guitars ar worldclass instruments. Particularly interested in the DYM60HD model made from 50 year seasoned solid Honduran Mahogany back and sides with a AAAA select Adirondack top. Special guitars.
I traded a Seagull for an Alvarez years ago because I started playing bars and small gigs and needed the pickup system, but the Alvarez never had the tone of the Seagull, though both were mahogany back and sides with spruce tops. It served its purpose, but I didn't have any lingering regrets letting it go. These are better guitars. I have always loved walnut as a tone wood and general woodworking material, but these truly sing with a spruce top.
I liked the 2nd guitar and the OM Spruce the best.
Nice choice! đ
I wonder if you can answer a question for me. I play an Alvarez AD610ESHB. It comes with the Alvarez SYS250 EQ. I've been wanting to try the new carbon strings on it. Is this likely to work?
Ben lad is such a brilliant and very unique guitar player. First became aware of him on the North American Guitar Co but for some strange reason he was only showing off the electric guitars there.
Thatâs a very tasty looking guitar but I donât get the pick up thing and if anything I detest them all lol.
I picked up the Walnut predecessor to this for ÂŁ500 last year. Paid for a set up, and wow - it looks, sounds, and feels gorgeous. Bookmatched flame top, slick satin neck....treat yourself to an Alvarez đ”
Top demo bud. Sitka more resonant? Alvarez build quality has impressed me. Respect and stay healthy all.
I noticed there are no dots on the fretboard. Why is that?
What a great video! I want to buy GA model but I do not have a chance to try it in my country. Unfortunately there is no seller here. I am in between spurce top and walnut top. It is hard to decide.
A month ago I posted about the parlor...in a couple of weeks I'll receive the dreadnought (walnut).
The Spruce top seems to amplify a rattling sound from the strings that I donât like too much.
I love Alvarez guitars! I want to like the walnut better, but really, I think the spruce has it. For someone like me, though, who plays alone and rarely has anyone around, I think the walnut would be great! Softer more subdued tones. A folk guitar... Just as the name says...
Awesome tune. Awesome playing.
Iâve wanted one of these for Lang time. That first one Iâll buy. Mostly play Taylor.
Lovely shoot out. Think the Spruce tops overall, BUT the OM WALNUT sounded đ.
We need to find Ben a video partner! Always more sh@ts and giggles when bouncing off another like minded mad skilled muscian!đ€Łđ€Ł like Pete & Lee!
Great show!
Thanks for commenting & tuning in Daniel!
Finding Ben a video partner is the last step to fully bringing back Acoustic Paradiso. We're on it don't worry! đ
Yes Ben needs a partner! Although hats off to him for being able to carry the entire series, superb playing
Iâm getting ready to order the first one shown. They have them at Musicianâs friend for 15 % off. Killer deal. I have had Taylorâs. 614ce 314ce. Always wanted a Alvarez.
@@jconner3891 I have that one. You're going to love it.
@@spencerzumwalt8957 cool. Been looking the whole time. Thanks. Iâm getting it somewhere. Musicianâs friend is out. I guess I can pre order. Thanks.
such beautiful guitars... Such a great player!!
The spruce top is chimier and has a better response, but the dreadnought walnut tops are still pleasant. I'd still prefer the spruce top for its dynamic response and brillance.
Youâre Definitely An Awesome Musician And I Always Wanted A Walnut For The Color I Own A Spruce Top So I Need A Walnut Now But Hey You Keep Bringin Those Tunes. đđđ¶đ¶đž
Do you like Alvarez better than Yamaha?
I have the MGA70WCEARSHB Grand Auditorium Sitka Spruce top. For the price you won't find better sounding acoustics than Alvarez. But I have to say I do not like the pickup system in the new Elite line up. Only volume and tone, and the tone does very little. I also own a Masterworks MDA66CESHB Dreadnought w/ Cutaway Solid African Mahogany with a LR Baggs StagePro EQ and Element Pick Up. They are by far a better sounding pickup with all that you need to shape your tone from the guitar. Full chromatic tuner and three band EQ with phase inversion and Garrett Null notch filter. I think the VTC pickups are a cost cutting step down.
Very nice. I wish Alvarez would skip the abalone bling on the masterwork series. It looks a bit naff and you have to pay extra for it. The bluegrass model sticks to herringbone and is classier in my opinion.
Absolutely not! the abalone looks beautiful and classy. But everyone has different opinions I guess.
a pickguard and position dots would be nice...
Need a 12 string in this range and a baritone.
what's better series for martin sound
Great playing Ben. Which thumbpicks do you use?
Thanks! :-) I use Fred Kelly Slick picks, the heavy ones, filed right down.
@@bensmithguitar Cheers Ben. You really are a great player. I'd love to see more of your reviews opposed to the millions of pointless effects pedals Lee and Pete do, no dissing them, they're brilliant but acoustics rule.
@@bensmithguitar Hey Ben, just curious. Do you prefer these Alvarez over the new "inspired by Gibson" epiphones? Or vice versa? I will probably purchase one or the other.
They do look very impressive, wonder how they compare to the Taylor 100 series
What is the first acoustic model you first played please?
Put elixirs on them and they will sound even better.
I have the Artist Elite all Black Walnut, GA. 80/20s on the all black walnut GA really sing. The clarity and definition is so amazing I don't even miss the little bit of sustain it lacks compared to the spruce. Excellent for fingerpicking and strumming alike, super clear even tone and excellent note definition. My Dad compared the sound to a Martin D18 but I would say with a little less projection and overtones (not crying that my guitar falls slightly short of a $2500 guitar). I also have an Artist Elite Cedar top & Acacia back/sides and that thing just has a magical tone when finger picking. I really wish they made the same model at the Master Elite level, I'd probably own it today. Both mine are laminate back & sides but they're so well constructed it's only really noticeable in the lack of projection. Since I get in trouble as is with the wife for how loud it is when I play I definitely don't need louder guitars. It's also nice not to have to worry so much about keeping them stored in the perfect environmental conditions.
Iâm not familiar with them. I do like the dark one, but so, so strange thereâs no cedar top. Cedar and mahogany are literally made for each other.
Can you tell me the song names and artists you were playing?
What about playability? Are they smooth and Easy to play?
Their good, but also try Sire, mine is great, I posted a video of the one I bought at Andertons a few months ago, really need to try an Acoustic, hard I know, when Christmas Special Strain Covid might get you...
Spruce top was a tiny bit clearer. I liked the first one more, still.
Gotta say....the boy can play!
Gorgeous

What time is it in the UK?
Does dancing with the guitar make it sound better ?
Where are these models made from? China? Japan?
under saddle pickup robs tone, better to use k&k
They sure look pretty!
Do these differ at all from last years? My elite om was 599 with exact same specs. Incredible guitars all round
Solid back and sides, and different electronics (controls in sound hole)
@@fredflinstone3173 exactly the same as mine
Calum Sherwood
Sorry, I mistakenly thought they had artist elite in walnut.
I guess theyâve gone up in price. Way up! It wasnât that long ago when the Masterworks came with a hard case too.
Did you get the Sitka, or walnut top?
@@fredflinstone3173 walnut
Ha ha ha, the microphone costs more than the guitar, :) . But whatever it takes to get that perfect recording of the sweet balanced sound of fingerstyle on my (folk masterworks elite) guitar!
Where are these made?
Does these come with a case?
The mahogany looks better but sounds tinny. The other one sounds better in the first two comparisons. The spruce sounds better than the walnut but i prefer the look of the walnut.
What mahogany were you referring to?
The OM spruce top was very buzzy
Spruce top.
Only?
Could you do another sounds like, this time ONE OK ROCK... it's a Japanese rock band but they interpreted English lyrics as well. I would love to see you guys try those
With all due respect, I think they all sounded very dull, as if the guitars were strung with 20 year old strings. Besides that, it's almost impossible to judge the true sound of an acoustic guitar when you plug it into an AER amp and nobody knows how the controls are being set and how the two signals are blended and what might or might not have been done in the daw to give us the final result.
In short, I have no idea how these guitars actually sound. Might be completely different from what I just heard. And for Alvarez I hope it indeed is very different.
They sound amazing in person. I have no idea why they didn't just mic them! Crazy and a shame
Anybody know why Alvarez state these guitars are built in japan but they are actually made in china?
Elites are made in Japan. Everything else is made in China.
âïž Great âïž I personally like the esthetics and sound of the GA in the walnut top (fingerstyle) âŒïžđ€ đ„ž đ€

Review of acoustic guitars PLUGGED IN? Come on... :)
I have an Alvarez 12 string it rivals my martin U.S.A.
I am an Alvarez fan, but not of the Walnut versions, too dark and middy for my taste
Thumbnail says for ÂŁ7492
Looks like the time stamp cuts off the ? but we assure you they are ÂŁ749 đ
This is not a good way to showcase these instruments. This dude, Ben, seems like a great guy, however, he doesn't seem to know much about what he's selling you here.
Using the plugged in DI tone along with mic'd tones is 100% NOT the way to demo an acoustic instrument. I have no idea what this guitar REALLY sounds like, because of the DI. I would have rather you guys recorded this on an iPad, than plugged it in and "mixed it". I'm not sure, but it also sounds like there's been some post production work to the sound (reverb).
I love Alvarez-Yairi instruments, and this demo isn't doing these guitars any favors. Yairi makes Martin and Taylor killers on the cheap. Unfortunately, many people will overlook this because of the poor explanation of these Yairi's, and the serious marketing that's done by Taylor and Martin.
Sorry, but Anderton's lets me down again. It's been YEARS since I have watched an Anderton's video - they lost me about 4 years ago, when I watched two goofballs demoing an acoustic and they had zero clue about it. I literally thought they were drunk and/or stoned out of their minds.
It's really sad when salespeople can't get it right...it's not as if it's their job or something. đ€
Anyway, I hope there's another video on these which highlight the features, builder, and actual acoustic tones of these amazing guitars. If I had only watched this video, and knew nothing of Alvarez or Kazuo Yairi, I would pass on these instruments, however, I can tell anyone reading this that if you want more guitar for your money - try an Alvarez, and say bye-bye to Martin and Taylor; I did.đ°â€ïžđžđ¶đ€âïž
You are entitled to your opinion but these are not Yairis. Alvarez Masterworks Elites are made in a Japanese factory but it is not directly connected with Yairi.
Kinda Grover Tuners! I'm guessing, they are, or they arn't
