It seems when you are describing the nursing model you are describing the patient centered care approach. I believe that physicians and physician assistants can also practice patient centered care. Any thoughts on this?
hi there, what about the model for DO doctors? is it sort of in between?
The problem with Jean Watson's "theory of caring model" is that it is totally impractical on a busy med/surg/telemetry floor, any nurse trying to engage in Watson's model will drown during the shift, every shift with their patients being the worse off for it. I never bought into any of these nursing theorist's notions of how nursing care should ideally be implemented and conducted. These PhD nurses have not actually worked at the bedside in years (or decades) in today's go-go hospital environment that is more akin to an assembly line than anything else.
Agree. In theory, they make sense. But theory and practice are just miles and miles apart, and the gap gets wider. IMHO with health care becoming a business and not a community service.
