  • In this video I'm explaining how you can recreate a funky synth bass sound like the one in the Finesse Remix by Bruno Mars feat. Cardi B.
    I'm designing the bass sound in a free synth plug-in called Helm so everyone can follow along and create the bass patch simultaneously to watching. To download Helm (free synth vst) visit this link: tytel.org/helm/
    The video covers topics such as how to set up and pitch oscillators, how to use amp & filter envelopes and also how to use legato mode.
    Learning synthesis and sound design can not only be fun but also beneficial for your music productions. Being able to create some of your own presets will also enable you to understand your synths much better and therefore be able to fine tune other presets more effectively and efficiently.

    Awesome mate, been looking for this bass sound design for a long time~
    BTW, could I make the sound more kinda sharper if i change the resonance?

    • @OleansHouse
      @OleansHouse  Před 4 lety +1

      Since the resonance boosts the frequency at wich your cutoff it set, it can definitely add some sharpness. but it will prob also change the sound in other ways, since u will here the Filter movement a lot more. So the effect resonance will have really depends on how your set up your filter and modulation envelopes etc.. I would also try to add more sharpness by making the filter open up more by increasing the modulation depth. This will let more high frequencies through which usually add to the sharpness. Other options would be, adding some distortion, boosting high frequencies with an EQ or Compressor (by compressing the bass after a certain attack time has passed and this way boosting the high frequencies in comparison to the rest. Hope this helps :)

    so good maan this is awesome, what synth do you think is the best one and why ? keep up the good work

    • @OleansHouse
      @OleansHouse  Před 6 lety +1

      I know its kind of a none answer but there really isn't one best synth. U can do very different things with different synths, so it really depends on what you are looking for and how you like to work. Are you looking for a synth with good presets, if yes what kind of style. Or are you looking to create your own sounds, if yes what kind of sounds haha. For a nice old-school sound I'd recommend u-he diva since it combines many classics synthesizers in one. For a more modern sound I'd recommend Serum, since u will find a ton of free presets etc.

      oh ok i get you so i can use different synth depending on what sound im looking for

    • @OleansHouse
      @OleansHouse  Před 6 lety

      exactly. There are many different types of synthesizers like fm, subtractive, wavetable, additive, modular and the list goes on. And even synths of the same type often have different features and functions.

      there isn't really a "best" synth
      each synth has its own character and the same patch will have a different sound on each, and which suits what you're making varies, and that's only taking subtractive synthesis into account, which isn't the only type of synthesis out there

      Hi! :) do you maybe have an example or a track I could check out, so I exactly know what you mean? Are you looking for more of an acoustic horns sound (which you would use a sampler for) or synth horns? Made a video a while back about funky synth Brass/Horn sounds. czcams.com/video/1yqe7VIp2R0/video.html Let me know what you are looking for! Cheers

      Olean's House the video you shared was great also love your work! For this other type u think is recreatable on Anel ton or logic? Check it out guy is a beast lol different style czcams.com/video/C-5P3qhSdu8/video.html

      Thank you! Nice video!! for brass sounds that sound more like a real instrument you should use a sampler. I use KorgM1 which also has brass sounds. But of you have Logic u can probably find some sax and trumpet sampler instruments in there, if thats what you are looking for.
