Thanks, Beth. I'm switching over to WFPB. More of these health videos, please. Thank you for showing the ones since your stroke where you've completely changed your diet! You're doing great!!!
Thank you Beth! I recently discovered that my BP is elevated….I’m going to focus on sodium and less wine (I don’t drink a ton, but I’m going to cut it out and see what happens!) I appreciate this info so much!
I’m a nurse and this is so useful and I try to educate my patients about their sodium intake. Unfortunately in the area where I live blood pressure and diabetes are so prevalent. It makes me sad to see because blood pressure is the silent killer. Not many people pay attention to it until it’s too late😀my blood pressure has been elevated a little so I’m working on it but mine had a lot to do with my anxiety. I’ve cut out eating out and I’m not overweight but I need to lose 20 pounds that I put on with my antidepressants 😀
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment. You are so right about everything you shared. Good luck on your weight loss journey. I am so sorry that happened to you. We don’t always know the side effects of some of our meds for sure.
Hi Beth ! Just last week I went and brought a really good blood pressure machine, and watching the sodium on labels , trying to eat more fruits and veggies... now to work on more exercise !! Thanks so much for sharing this helpful info !! Do you know which arm is the correct ?I always thought left , some say right , or doesn't matter! ?? Blessings , Paula
We keep a blood pressure cuff on our coffee table in plain sight. You would be shocked how often friends and family will ask to use it! It often becomes a competition to see who “wins”. But really we all win because it’s a good thing to monitor! We use it everyday and we are only in our mid 40’s.
High Blood pressure is a secondary symptom to something else going on in your body. My A1c was high, tryglicerides were high which are indicators to sugar & carbs. I’ve reduced that, no boxed foods - these are full of terrible things like maltodextrin, gmo, etc. More natural eating, making gravies from scratch, eating vegetables with the meals without giving up meat 🥩. Exercise is necessary as well to help improve A1c & keep you healthy & young. 🥳🥳
Eating more fruits and vegetables lowers blood pressure. It helps thin out the blood from the high cholesterol. You can also add lean fish to the diet for some protein and other nutrients.
Congratulations on the lower blood pressure! That's fantastic! Yes 130 is elevated. I feel you really have to advocate for your health care as you get older. I think doctors see so many sicker people that if you seem reasonably healthy otherwise they will overlook things that are a red flag.
You are so right about that. I know doctors are doing the best they can but there’s no possible way they can keep up with each of us individually. We do have to be our own advocate and thanks for the great reminder.
I totally agree with you Maam Beth that high sodium intake shoots up the bp and stress affects a lot too..Since hypertension and stroke is the no. 1 disease in my mother's side, this time Im more strict in what I eat since taking two meds for hypertension for two months now which before just take one tab..It all started when I visited my two daughters who are both studying in a place here in the Philippines that has a cold temp (Baguio City) which is very opposite where we live that is hot so I cant sleep and it took a while for me to adjust so I got stressed out so my bp got high so I went to the dr and prescribed another one medication to lower my bp.. What really helped me when I was there is I did walking for an hour just to get the sunlight to help my body temp got warmed so from that on I feel better and my sleep gets better and my bp is always normal.. As I mentioned to you Maam Beth here in our place where I live which is a rural area that has a small town where theres no much organic produce.. But I do eat vegetables everyday which I paired it with fish or chicken or pork avoiding the fat part and hardly eat beef because its expensive here but mostly vegetables and fish.. Ive started to lower my carbs slowly like bread and rice and substituting them with sweet potatoes but of course in mederation and avoiding processed foods..We are just an average middle class family and I cant afford to buy all the healthy fruits and vegetables which are available when I go to a city nearer in our place so I just buy whats available here in our local market..My must fruit everyday are bananas which are cheap.. What I realize is getting healthy is avoiding foods that are so delicious and very palatable to our tastebuds hahaha..When I cook I just put a small amount of rocksalt and not putting seasonings to make the food flavorful.. What goes well with our healthy body is having happiness and enjoying life even in simplicity and avoiding stress to get a good sleep and pray for guidance that God will lead us to a better and longer life..Maam Beth I know that Im sharing too much as if Im writing a letter hahaha..I just want to improve my English hahaha but thank you so much for this inspiring video you have with a message of hope that being hypertensive wont shorten our life as long as we take care of our body..You inspire me Maam Beth.. Im happy for your journey as Vegan and just continue that diet as long as you feel good and healthy...Greetings of Peace, Joy and Love from the Philippines where the friendliest people live!😍😍😍
@@FiftyPlusBeauty thank you also Maam Beth for the time reading my comment and for the reply.. Have a blessed weekend and enjoy with your family! God bless ..🙏❤
Yes, I know my bp and it's a bit high with medication. It budged with plant based diet but not much. I guess because my weight is the problem and there was not much things the plant diet would fix. I've still sticked to plant based though. It's just such a good thing to do.
Glad you mentioned the arm cuff over the wrist cuff for monitoring BP. Wrist cuffs are the most inaccurate and are not endorsed by the American heart association.
Hi Beth. Great informative video! I believe the potassium in the salt you are taking is also contributing to lowering your sodium levels. Both potassium and magnesium help reduce sodium levels, there's often an imbalance because most people consume high amounts of sodium without enough potassium and magnesium in their diets. Veggies have a lot of magnesium and potassium and almost no sodium.
I am so happy that you have found Dr Greger. He is such a wonderful, scientific resource. ❤My blood pressure was hypertensive until i changed my diet 8 years ago. Never felt better! XxX
I also am eating a more healthy diet and cut out caffeine and sodium. I never drink alcohol so im good there. But i significantly brought my BP down by practicing belly breathing techniques such as the 478 technique. I do these about 3xs a day and it has trained my body on breathing deeper and slower over time. These techniques can be found on CZcams. I guess i was a shallow breather which is bad for BP. It really works!
I follow Dr Peter Attia, longevity doctor. He mentioned in his podcast on high bp that cacao is know to reduce bp as well as humming. I make hot chocolate with cacao and add stevia for a sweetener. I’ve lost over 20 lbs which really lowered my bp significantly. He also recommends taking your bp 3x over 15 min while relaxing and to do this for 2 wks to get your average and notify your dr because as you say, we think it’s just the white coat stress.
People who can do drying fasting and no medical problems it helps lower blood pressure very quickly I do dry fasting 1 month every year from sunrise to sunset I wish I will continue at least twice a week better than diet or medication
If you do add salt, try Redmond’s real salt. It has a lot of natural minerals and not the crappy bleached out table salt. Potassium and sodium work together.
Hi Beth. I'm 67 and I have always been obsessed with my blood pressure. However, just 2 days ago I listened to a well informed video of a well renowned heart suegeon who explained that it is normal to have high blood pressure after 65. In fact he said the biggest mistake is when doctors put people in that age category on blood pressure lowering meds. He demonstrated an analogy as to why. Maybe it is different once you've had a stroke, but he did not mention that. I also found a documentary about a year ago on 60 minutes called, Living into your 90s. Very interesting findings. A group of experts followed a group of people for years, the ones who lived into their 90s and beyond all had several things in common. They had high blood pressure, were not thin, had a glass of wine a day and a good social life. It's just different for those into their 90s than it is even 60s and 70s as was mentioned. My MIL is almost 95. Lives independently at home and eats like a horse..lol, but true. It may not be for everyone, but I found this doctor and the documentary very interesting. The documentary is on CZcams if any of your viewers are interested in watching it. Stay healthy and wise, Beth. Best wishes❤
It is true you can find anything really on CZcams, to confirm different theories, but for the vast majority of people high blood pressure is a definite warning indicating a higher risk of other health problems. I can’t seem to find any evidence to the contrary that has any credibility.
That's awesome. I tried carnivore for 3 months and my stage 1 high blood pressure really soared even with 3 BP drugs. With our genetic differences what works for one may not work for all. We have to find what works for us. I'm back on plant based eating and my BP is so much better, 119/53 this morning.
So exciting to see you thriving on a whole food plant based diet, Beth! Best to you and Alan! 🎉😊
Thank you! You too!
Wonderful info…many thanks

Thank you so much!
Dr. Greger is so great! I've been following his diet for some time now and I never get hungry and I feel so much better. 😊
Thanks for sharing!!
I am making changes to a plant base diet. We had a cheese burger salad, using a a black bean burger.

Yes! I am so happy you do that, too! We keep ours in the magazine basket where we sit each morning. It really helps to see it.

Hi Beth. With this new eating style, how is your IBS doing?
It is definitely more of a challenge on the plant-based diet but it is getting better. I will make a video about that soon.
I struggle with IBS which is worse now eating plant based. Psyllium husk fiber capsules really help and are also excellent for cholesterol levels.
Yes, I know my bp and it's a bit high with medication.
It budged with plant based diet but not much. I guess because my weight is the problem and there was not much things the plant diet would fix.
I've still sticked to plant based though. It's just such a good thing to do.

Great comments. I’m going to try that 478 breathing.
Anyone know if the nu salt also helps us with our potassium levels? Is it the "right kind" of potassium for that?
My apologies, but I’m not sure about that.
Also every etnicity has diffetent reactions to imput
What are your thoughts about Botox’s? Thanks
I really love Botox. I have used it on my forehead and my crows feet areas for about 22 years.

Yes, I do like the Redmond salts.
How is your IBS on that diet
It’s not perfect Lorraine but it is getting much better. I will make a video about that soon.
Are you still using the collagen powder?
No, I am not. Darn! I have like three big jars left.
@@FiftyPlusBeauty I started using when I saw you talking about it. Why are you not?
Also, try Redmonds real salt. Our body needs salt! This is a healthy salt!
How much vitamin d do u take daily?
I think it’s 1000 mg period
I use No Salt. It takes just like salt!

Lowered my blood pressure with carnivore diet from about 170 to 120. Just meat, butter, eggs and electrolytes (yes, salt too) .
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing that.

The AHA recommendations are old and antiquated. You absolutely need to consume a good mineral sea salt daily.
❤❤❤
Why not eat in balance. Grassfed venison is so low in fat. I was vegan for three years and ended up very sick.
Thanks for sharing that Nancy. I am glad you have found something that works for you.
Gosh Beth 131/80 really is not high and certainly wouldn't cause your stroke.
