My favorite DOS game of all time!!
Something I've found with all of the WC games I've played.
I have a 16-button "GIC USB Joystick" which is actually a Dualshock 2 with a USB connector box. The 16 buttons correspond to the face buttons (1-4) shoulder buttons (5-8) Start/Select/L3/R3 (9-12) and the D-Pad (13-16). If you have "buttonwrap" set to true, each set of 4 will map to 1-4. If you turn it off, you can map all 16 buttons separately. For example, I map Space to R1 and Enter to L1 for extra firing controls; R2 to Afterburner; Square to T and Cross to L, for targeting (Triangle is Button 1 and Circle is Button 2); D-Pad Up to G and D-Pad Down to W for weapon controls; D-Pad Left to Left Bracket and D-Pad Right to Right Bracket to control the VDUs; and Start to N, Select to ESC, and R3 to A for navigation controls. Thinking about mapping L3 to J.
Something else I had tried was mapping right stick axis up to S and right stick axis down to Shift and S for shield toggles; this worked for a while but stopped, and I don't know why.
Aww yeah, this is what I was waiting for! One thing philscomputerlab that I was unclear about, you mentioned early in the video about possible sound lag due to a bug with the joystick port, I'm not sure if you elaborated on that later on in the video as to how to correct this? As always, thank you so much for this excellent Tweak Guide!
It's setting the joystick to 2axis instead of auto that fixes the slowed down music in space flight. Or just playing with a USB joystick, that also fixes it.
philscomputerlab Thanks for the clarification Phil, I should be good to go!
The gemini gold looks cool, but is so damn hard, so much harder then I remember it to be.
Is there any way to invert the y axis on mouse control while flying?
Phil, what means did you use to set up the BassMIDI driver?
Thanks for this video. Have you ever had the game lock up/freeze? I've had it happen twice now and I wonder if I did something wrong following your tweaks.
Hmm I admit that I haven't properly played the game beyond what I did in this video. During that time I had no issues however.
Okay. Thanks for the quick reply. :)
Hi PhilsComputerLab, I am trying to use the MT32 emulator, which you used for WC-2 but when I click on the cmd shortcut, I get a small dialog box appearing titled MT32: Can't find control ROM, and it just hangs there so I have to use CTRL-ALT-Delete to get out of it...do I have to download another sound-drive emulator, or can I use the MT32? And on your DosBox.Priv_cmd.conf file which you partially delete I have a lot more information to delete on mine, compared to what you have which is only a few lines? So at this moment in time having just brought the game, and trying what you have shown so far, I can't launch the game in any state at the moment, it doesn't start at all..
Also how did you do the directory search in the DOSBOX window...? I assume though that would be simple if the CMD file is working!
Privateer doesn't support Roland MT-32. It uses General MIDI!
I've been trying to use VirtualMIDI for this; (for some reason BASSMIDI is flagged as a virus from my AV), but when I try to find the identifier from DOSBOX, it doesn't pick it up, only the Microsoft player
Any pointers?
GreenFenril Disable the AV and try installing it again?
I don't understand something here. Why does the widescreen show circles as circles and the 4:3 show "circles" that are elongated vertically? (I presume the original game, at 4:3, had the reticle and other elements as circles.)
Yes this is a 4:3 games, and sometimes there are exceptions with assets being oval in shape. Could be by design or by accident.
any hints to make a x52 pro to work?
Should be easy enough to figure out I would think?
Anyone able to buy commodities? I can't click to purchase... =(
It is the best game
Privateer gold is a much harder game to play than the original and there is a remake out now too
so you telling me they made the game harder with the gold edition?
