fun fact from a northerner: lots of "wintery" homes have very sloped roofs because the slant doesn't allow snow to collect - it slides down and doesn't cause the roof to cave in from the weight! u just gotta be aware of walking around the edge of a roofline so you don't get buried when the snow does fall LOL

Places that get a lot of snow tend to have steep roofs because if they were flat, the weight of the snow would crush in the roof.

In the Netherlands we have a second christmas day, it is on the 26th, so you can go to your own family and the family from your partner on different days. It is a typical dutch thing. We have it with easter too.

What I learned today… other countries seasons don’t begin on the 1st of the month….
In Australia, Summer is just Dec-Feb, Autumn Mar-May, Winter Jun-Aug, Spring Sept-Nov and just last the full months…
it's always funny how she tries building 'affordable' houses as if 99% of sims players didn't cheat for money
What do you even do in this game if you cheat for money? I don't ever cheat for money and my sims still end up set up for life after maybe 2h of gameplay.
@@Frenchaboo i agree that making money is much easier in this one than the previous games but still most simmers like to live in a cool expensive house right away, perhaps they're more focused on storytelling or aspirations

As a Canadian I have never thought of Dec 21st being the first day of winter, it's always been the ending of oct / the beginning of Nov when the snow falls!
For me, a regular Scandinavian, winter is like November-mid Mars, so this notion of winter being only December is very foreign to me

i absolutely adore this house, but i spent the whole time looking at that super cute little living area thinking "it's not centered with the fireplace, just move everything over one tile, kayla PLEASE"
the fireplace wasn't centered because the chimney had to be in a specific spot so everything in there was wonky 😂

in some regions winter starts in October and ends in May 😂
In Catalonia, most people keep the tree until the 7th of January, the day after the epiphany. However, traditionally, you can keep the tree and the nativity scene until 'la candelera', the 2nd of February. So, don't feel pressured to remove the tree, it's not even new years yet!
It's so interesting how other countries actually pay attention to the solstices/real seasons. In Australia it's definitely just the 1st of every third month. I'd never heard of the real dates for seasons til recently
i think they are two different ones you can use.
calendaric beginning of winter is on the 21th of December or metreological which is on the first of December.
There is also the one that is based on the average temperatures which is basically different each year.

Removing the Christmas tree is only "necessary" (if you believe the superstitions) after 12th night. That is, the 12th night after Christmas. So it being Boxing Day when you did the video means you still had a further 11 days of the tree being up. No need to panic!

Where I live, the 'official winter' starts on 1 December, though the first snow comes in November, and lasts until March. Maybe that's why I don't see how this is a 'winter house'. It's cute, it looks good, but... There's no mudhall. Maybe you don't need one in Florida, but in the area where it rains/snows a lot, it's not only gross, because you stomp in wet boots and coats right into the living room/kitchen space, but also ruins the wooden floor. The fireplace right next to door. Again, cute, if you live in the area where you don't actually use it for heating and it's just a fancy decoration you decided to spend your money on even though this is a 'starter house'. If you use it for heating, then you're losing all the heat every time they open the door. The roof is slanted, but surrounded with flat roof, that prevents the snow to slide off...
People in this 'starter house' either have lots of money that they can pay a maid and don't have to worry about heating costs, ruining their roof and floors, or they have lots of free time to do it all themselves manually.

I live in the North of Germany, and we usually first get snow in the end of January/start of February. This year we got snow on the 1th December and the on the 23th December. So we got a white Christmas this year. ((:
